I don't know, this seems like a step down for Cranston. Not that he can't be great at pretty much whatever you throw at him...comedy...drama...I just don't get why he wants to do this.

I'm asking myself the same questions with the Affleck casting. Paycheck?

i don't understand why anyone would think that it's a step down.

It's not even about Cranston, it's that fanboys always got some dream fan casting in their heads and if it's not fulfilled anyone else is less than to them. You'd be an idiot to complain about one of the greatest actors we have doing it in the business right now considering this role. If all you know him from is that godawful Total Recall and Breaking Bad do some homework. I've seen people lobbying for Mark Strong who is an excellent actor but don't pretend it's partly not because he's already bald either.

I think Cranston is way too obvious a choice. Damian Lewis all the way!! No already bald actors. I wanna see Damian Lewis be that kinda Lex we got in JL/JLU and in Young Justice.

Someone really needs to educate me how obvious choices are bad choices and that left field is the way to go.

Has NO ONE seen the Affleck reaction here?

Man 1: Oh my god have you seen that Affleck is Batman? Awful awful choice from nowhere! Oh my god DC have ****** it up they have actually ******* it up!

Man 2: Oh god yeah I see what you mean. Sooo what about Luthor who do you want that to be?

Man 1: I dunno...

Man 2: Well there is Mark Strong, Bryan Cranston. All decent actors that can do the job well.

Man 1: OH MY GOD ARE YOU HIGH? THEY ARE FAR TOO OBVIOUS WE NEED TO GO WAY OUTSIDE THE BOX!!

Affleck is a great choice, and far from left field.

I'm on the Tucci Train.

I think you're forgetting that he was in Captain America: TFA. Once an actor appears in a comic book movie, there is absolutely no shot he'll ever show up in another one as a different character.

I think he is and he isn't. He's not left field in the sense that he has traditional leading man looks and charm and has played in action movies (and even superhero movies) before.

But the casting was a shocker, I think, because no one expected it. Perhaps someone might have, but since he passed on directing a JL movie and had made comments after Daredevil that led at least some of us to believe that he wasn't interested in playing a superhero again, most of us never thought this would happen.

Yeah, casting Affleck sounds like a move WB might have made in 2002. Which explains why most people's minds went to that era when they realized he was Batman :cwink:

That's what I mean. He wasn't commonly suggested for the role, but he is absolutely "on type." Left field, for me, would be someone like Steve Carell.

He's the kind of choice that no one really thinks about but when it's announced you don't have many issues.

LOL. I want to see THAT Batman movie.

Affleck is the new Nolan, no thread can escape his influence.

Nolan has hung up his vest. It was beginning to smell fusty.

Yeah, there's certainly a perception of him being from left-field from a fan perspective, but from a studio perspective it is actually a very safe, in-the-box choice. Someone with a longstanding relationship with Warner Bros, someone who has been reportedly sifting in and out of negotiations for various DC properties for years - albeit as a director rather than an actor. The boxes were there, we just didn't check them.

I feel like everyone labeling Cranston as 'Just a TV actor have never seen Breaking Bad and don't watch many films. The guy is great in everything he does. He should have gotten a nod for Argo himself speaking of Ben. 'WE'RE A ****ING SPY AGENCY, FIND HIM!'

Cranston is one of my favorite actors ever since Malcolm in the middle, but I honestly a bit sick of old white man lex. I'm sure he'd nail it but ideally I'd like somebody who'll bring something new to the character. Younger, more cutthroat business wise. My favorite lex was the one from stas. For some reason I can see idris Elba doing a kickass job giving us a fresh take on lex.

Affleck was not that outside of the box to me as a choice. I just never thought he would accept. He has the look and some fine movies under his belt. Also has been (not Ben) directing outstanding movies. Seems like a wishful choice actually.

By "fresh take", do you mean "black"? Or is there something nuanced about Elba that you think foreshadows a particularly radical approach to the characterization?

If you want to go with black and particularly radical, you'd be better off going with Lance Reddick.
