Here's Billy Crudup without the blue face lol

I hear that a lot of fans already thought Lex was Black in DCAU due to his darker skin tone and larger lips. I think the creators said they were just trying to make him look Mediterranean though. It has been suggested and I think it would be an incredibly bold choice, but while Superman fans griped about changing Perry's race. I think there would be pure outrage if they made Lex black.
So....that doesn't tell us if it's going to be a an older/middle aged Lex or younger Lex LOL."There is musing about Lex Luther, conversations that Zack and I have had on set, but it all depends on what happens over the next month. There are obviously those Lexcorp easter eggs in the film and clearly you can see from that, to the extent to which we can intuit things about Lex, it’s not the Gene Hackman version. This is a Bill Gates-like Lex that is probably worth 50, 60, 70 billion dollars. It’s a very different Lex."

That was a HUGE issue at the time. It was insane. On the WF forum there was a 30 page debate about his race, which is why I KNOW there would be outrage.I don't know if I could see them race-lifting Luthor though. The character is already compared to Kingpin because of the business leanings, and I can only see that comparison popping up again if they change his race as they did for Kingpin. It worked for Kingpin, yes, but physical size was a consideration there. Luthor can be played by most any capable actor of at least average build.

Approval ratings haven't been so great for Obama these past few years...If he was president Lex or CEO Lex, maybe it'd be more fitting if he was black?
We do live in a time where the trustworthy model leader figure is a charming black guy in a suit after all (generalizing here).
I'm usually the one who advocates for as much literal translation of physical characteristics (down to even eye and hair color), but this is one of those cases where I would be willing to ease up.Ejiofar is the ****, but there's no real need to change Luthor's race. a white actor could turn in just as good of a performance, so there's no real need
This is who DCAU Lex was based on...

For whatever reason, his skin tone and fuller lips (like Black men were usually drawn in the DCAU) made many to think that version of the character was a Black guy. Notice once we see him in JL/JLU, they lightened his skin.
t: Clancy has full lips and bushy eyebrows.
Yes, with some attributes known to Clancy...lol. Though people really didn't see that.t: Clancy has full lips and bushy eyebrows.
edit
The debate go SO bad at WF Bruce Timm had to clarify this himself....lololololol
Nic Cage as Lex Luthor would immediately make BVS my favourite film, ever.

How so? Luthor just looks like a younger Savalas to me.
t:prefer a younger version of Lex...
You would think, but it was because of the darker toned skin (in contrast to other characters) and the lips. It just threw people off. Plus, Clancy has such a deep voice people automatically thought he was black. They had no idea he was white.t:
I think Spacey was approached for Lex and Cage was slated to be Superman.
Burton's version would've had Nicolas Cage playing Superman. Kevin Spacey was approached for Lex Luthor, Chris Rock was set for Jimmy Olsen, Courtney Cox was up for Lois Lane, and Tim Allen claims he was negotiating with Warner Bros. for the Brainiac part. The film quickly went into pre-production with an expected release in the summer of 1998.
