do you think these actors take the deal lionsgate offered the divergent kids a streaming movie deal

As much as I hate to saying this it looks like this movie is pretty much screwed as far as OS potential goes. Those early numbers are awful and now it really needs to explode in either of the big Asian markets if it's going to have a chance pulling in respectable numbers. I can understand why Lionsgate didn't go all out with a $150-$200M budget, but spectacle is what sells in international markets these days, and as bad as the Transformers movies are audiences love that kind of epic scale action which is why those movies keep grossing 1 Billion dollars Worldwide.

The domestic numbers will be solid enough, but if it doesn't improve OS than a sequel likely isn't happening, because why would they want to invest more money into something that won't deliver on returns?

I said this was my fear months ago, and then the second trailer hit with a completely different tone and it basically confirmed it. Reading reviews you see a lot of contradictions about the tone, but it isn't the reviewers. It is the movie apparently.

Some here made went out of their way to describe all the fans they were trying to reach, and it always looked like a problem. Because it was all one big contradiction.
That was the only thing I agreed with the critics about. And this movie needed at least two more actions scenes & at least 1 more morph.

I'm starting to not even want to come into this thread because of how negative/pessimistic things are. Damn, I wanted this movie to do good, dude

Damn, so we're looking at a $60 mill WW total for this weekend? On a $110 mill budget? Man that is a serious bummer. Can this even break even?

PRECISELY! Transformers, TMNT, BvS, as bad as those movies are, they have an identity at least. The filmmakers knew what they were making and for whom it was being made. This movie lacks that. It all comes back to the old saying, when you try to please everyone, you please no one.

I think another problem was it couldn't get past the stigma of it's name. Yes,some of us grew up loving PR,but a lot found it to be a joke. Some thing to laugh about. Also didn't help that their wasn't
enough action in the movie. Reason TF does so well OS. Is people like seeing robots duking it out through most of the movie.

But your entire argument was it was going to reach the kids, the YA, nostalgia and Transformers audience. :funny:

That looks looks lile Mitchell Hope (dude who was up for the Red Ranger)

I would have went with that suit btw

I feel like it kind of needed a lesser budget. This film did not feel like a 100mill film, I don't know even know where that money went. I feel like starting out they should've given the film 60-80million.
Looking only at the trailers, it wasn't a lesser budget they needed. It was someone who knew what they were doing with the budget. I know some really like the look, but to me it looks so half-assed and cheap in a lot of places, and a lot of that is the design, not just the effects work.

Well, obviously I was wrong. This movie needed more action to appeal to the kids/Transformers crowd. And opening in front of B&TB was a suicide mission.

Try to blame B&B all you want if it makes you feel better. But this was advertised as a YA movie, don't be surprised if it makes YA money.

Kong opened big in China today. 72m to take the number over 250m overseas. China can help change a narrative really quick, if no actually provide much in terms of profit. Warcraft is a good example. Those China numbers were held up like they actually did something.

Pretty clear Saban was living off the past. He still thinks it's the 90s and PR is popular. Like I said threads ago. Lionsgate would have been better off paying him cash to stay silent. Doing the movie their way. Instead they let Saban dicated who would direct it and such.

What about Lionsgate scream they could make a success? Outside of the Hunger Games, they have been terrible at it. They buy good movies, they don't make them.

So $40 million OW. I think it has a decent chance of getting to $100 million. Beauty and the Beast will still be its main competition in the next few weeks. I don't think Ghost in the Shell will put a dent in it since IMO that movie will tank.

It bit into Powers Rangers' opening weekend. No doubt about it.

It will cross 100m domestically.

God bless China for fueling the Kaiju revival. I will allow them to sustain Vin Diesel's career.

If the movie looked good enough to audiences, that wouldn't matter nearly as much.

I tried to make this argument with MoS a few years back and that was loads of movies in terms of competition. But the truth is, if the audience love it, they will show up. So while there is a dent, it isn't the full story at all.

Problem is might not even make 75 OS.
Depends on the markets left too open. They have opened in a lot of the good size markets and China is a no go. They haven't opened in Japan yet, right?

It could get over 100mil internationally but that's not a good number for a suppose big franchise play.
