Ah well they can either try again in 10 years or do a more serious take on Netflix / CW or something like that but its also possible that people in general did not like this being its own thing & ignoring the show continuity as well its like with Stargate. The show has a history & continuity people love if they rebooted it ignoring the shows that came before same situation with Power Rangers & ignoring the show was likely the first mistake

No not at all. Trying to stay in the shows continuity would've turned off even more people. Would've been stupid to do that.

So what did the people want that this movie did not have ? Or the answer is as I said it people just do not care about Power Rangers at this time when we have so many other franchises out & about. How can Saban make people care about another Big Screen franchise with Giant Robots & Aliens when we have stuff like Pacific Rim that gets proper big budgets etc ?

In my honest opinion, I think the movie had a GOOD template. Great characters, great development, you gave a **** about them when they were in battle and their teamwork carried weight. The film's fatal flaw though was that it need to be 10-15 mins longer and that 10/15 mins needed to be balls to the wall, well rendered, well choreographed action. More physical Rangers action and more zord action. I think the movie literally could've kept its same template but if it had that extra chunk of action in the third act it would've given GA more to chew on and would've made the film feel more epic.

But fans make up very little of the overrall audience.
Fans can hate something, ie Transformers, Star Wars prequels, but if the general audience get on board then who cares in the studios eyes

From everything I heard about this, they just didn't give the people what they want and they had a bit of a poor release date

Someone some pages back: "I liked that they had character development in the first part of the film. It's refreshing" or something like that; which is just kinda stupid to me because it's very simple to have characters develop and still have action throughout the movie.

They made a YA movie, when they should've made a superhero movie or a sci fi movie
General audiences were onboard the prequels train? They did a lot less then then OT and now Disney era flicks outside of TPM.

And again I say you make people care. You make people care by giving them what they want
Good action, a fun tone, good CGI good enough writing, and make it accessible to all age groups. And get a good director.

And that's just the movie, then make sure the marketing is good. PR is a big enough name that a decent movie that hit the right cords wouldve been moderatley accessible. Again, who cared about Deadpool before the movie a good amount but not a huge amount of people. Who cared about Jump Street, who cared about Guardians of the Galaxy, who cared about Kingsman?

They made this seem like an angsty YA movie. And while I do enjoy some YA movies or movies centered around young adults (I really loved Edge of Seventeen), I don't care about a subplot where a girl send nudes of another girl to her friends. Who wants to see that in a movie like this? I doubt many adults do and I'm sure some kids don't

Transformers 07, whether you liked it or not, knew what it needed to do to reel people in. And that's why it was able to get to 700+ million on the first go (without the aid of 3D) while things like PR, GI Joe, and TMNT can't even crack 500 mill with the aid of 3D

I'm not saying this is a bad movie, because I havent seen it, but from what I heard. It needed more action. PR is an action franchise. And then the little action they had didn't look very good from what I've seen

You can develop your characters while having more than one big action scene. Also the costume and set design weren't good. Furthermore I would have went for a brighter and more colorful looking film overall.

After 3 weeks it only has 42mil internationally. That is painfully low considering how many territories it has been released in.

That's pretty crappy IMO and anybody expecting it to do $250M+ WW should definitely be prepared for the worst, because it's unlikely this will even crack $200M WW now. Around $150-$170M sounds about right honestly.

wait till asia

I don't know, for some reason some on here believe that a Japanese turned American sorta Superhero film with no international stars and one big mediocre action scene at the end of the film will do huge numbers in China.

Resident Evil The Final Chapter and XXX 3 did great in China because they have a lot of crazy action sequences and I assume are fast paced and easy to understand.

I remember when I thought it was likely to do $300 million. Good days, good days.

I think I said $400 would be a lucky result. Dependent on quality and word of mouth.

Yeah...

i think I said 400 mill
I hedged my bets. I was thinking between 450m-500m. I thought it would turn out like the first TMNT. Just enough curiosity. I thought what if it did have that Transformers appeal. Yeah, it is going to be lucky to pass 200m at this point. The domestic numbers are bad and the OS numbers have been a disaster so far. No one cares about the Power Rangers it seems.

It seems Harry was being a bit optimistic with his Transformers numbers. :hehe:

And when Asia doesn't do all that much, "wait for home video and tv rights."

That is the problem. It can't merely do well in China. It has to do pretty darn good at this point. Even 100m wouldn't do it at this point. Even if it did Pacific Rim's numbers in China, Japan and Korea, this is still not doing enough.

They still have the TV Show & awesome Comics so its not like theres nothing out there for Power Rangers there just wont be any more movies for a long while

Not disagreeing at all. I am talking about the, "well the movie could still end up a success" idea. Theoretically it could do well enough in the big Asian markets to make it a success. The problem is it would need to really buck a trend. Even if it opened well in China, this seems to be just the kind of movie that falls off bad in China. There is one action scene, and not an impressive one. Who is going to recommend it in the land that Vin Diesel calls a second home?

Warcraft, which did really big its opening week in China died after that. Made 156m its opening week, then made another 64m the rest of the run. And that had a built in fanbase. What happens when you open to like 20m, or even 40m, and then that happens?

& that is why it won't be a success fans of this movie can declare Vin Diesel Public Enemy #1 like The Rock supposedly does

It's being released in China in May, which is frankly a better release date than April. Going up against Guardians 2 is way better than going up against Furious 8.
