Logan Logan - news & discussion - Part 4

Just got back from Logan. Maybe it's the lack of sleep. Maybe it's seeing the character, comic and live action, for so long. Maybe it's because it's truly one of the greatest, most emotional, raw and true to the character super hero movies ever made... but I am in pieces right now.

The fate of the X-Men confirmed.. almost had the X-Men in it..

CS: A pivotal course change for everybody, but especially for Professor X, was this incident that we never see, where he sort of accidentally kills a lot of people and a lot of mutants in Westchester having one of his fits.

Mangold: Yes.

CS: Was it ever a question of showing that scene or not showing that scene, since it’s so crucial to where the characters are when we find them?

Mangold: Yeah, I wrote that scene. I wrote it, and at one point, it was even the first scene in the movie.

CS: Really? Was it just too traumatic? Too much?

Mangold: It also made the movie about that. It was really interesting. It suddenly made the movie about X-Men dying, as opposed to allowing the movie to be a kind of unwinding onion, like allowing you to kind of enter the story and go, “Where is this going?” It was so large and loomed so large, and I felt like it also was still falling into the formula of the movies, with the big opener, that is setting up the mythology first. I thought, “What if we do an opener that leans into character first? Actually underplay those things?” Let them just feel like it’s more like a—what’s that?

Keen: Normal thing?

Mangold: A normal thing, like it’s happened. And instead of underlining it, yeah. Just let it live in the background of all these characters.

I wished they filmed it!

Glad it wasn't in. It would make it a little awkward - if you view these films as a series (and they are a series, they come in a box set) -
to watch McAvoy knowing his Xavier actually wipes out the students he is trying so hard to protect and the X-Men he created.

Some might call that ballsy. But it's ironic in the most horrible way. We're supposed to watch the young Storm, Jean, Scott etc, knowing that it's Xavier who kills them?

Oh man, that is a dark thought to have

Very saddening as well

The radio says 7 deaths "including several of the X-"

Don't know why everyone thinks that means every last X-Man.

Was probably Doop and Husk. ;)

Well, how many X-Men do you suppose there are????

I already see the NT and OT fractured into their own paths after DoFP xD I think New Mutants and Deadpool will be associated with new trilogy timeline though.

In a school full of 600, as the radio said?

One of the screenwriters even said it could be mutants we've never met. We don't know who's at the school a year before 2029. The last we saw of the school was 2023.

Since when have there been 600 members of the X-Men at one time?

The X-Men is a team of around 5 to 7, usually.

Scott
Jean
Storm
Rogue
Iceman
Colossus
Beast?
Kitty Pryde also

Those would be my guesses. :(

600 people were affected. SEVEN died. We'll never know who. That's the beauty of the film.

I don't see why the X-Men would abandon Charles, if they're still alive especially when his mind is deteriorating.

Logan is the only one who can be around Charles thanks to his healing powers. The rest of the X-Men can't be in close proximity near him, so I wouldn't say they abandoned him, Logan is just taking responsibility and taking care of him.

Before anyone says what about Jean, sure I guess. But this film is about Logan.

Maybe.

I never liked Wolverine mistakenly killing the X-Men in the Old Man Logan book, so at least THAT isn't in the movie.

But i'm not sure about having Xavier do it either. It damages the prequels, in my view. Whenever we see Xavier in the past from now on, we will know what he did. It leaves a bit of a bad taste.

(This the where defenders leap in and say 'but it's a standalone'; 'but it's a different timeline'; 'oh well Cable will come in and change everything')

theres still 6 years of open space between post DOFP and Logan

I'd love to get something in between there, but that ship has sailed. A comic tie in would be cool. Doubt marvel would allow that though.

I could be wrong (I need to watch it again), but I thought the radio said "600 injured and seven mutants died at the X--."

I assumed the radio was going to say "At the Xavier School for Gifted."

"7 died, including several of the X-" is what the radio says.

Don't fret too much about who it was. It's no big deal. There's many years of stories left to explore before these characters die (if they're characters worth exploring). That's not the focus of the film.

its just people speculating, thats a good thing. We'll be talking about it for a while, if I know anything about stuff like this haha.
