This is a very good film, but I don't quite think it lives up to the hype of it being the best CBM since The Dark Knight. Heck, overall I preferred Fox's own film Deadpool from a year ago.
Everyone knows the positives, so I'll focus on the two major problems that stand out to me.
The first is the same thing that has plagued almost every recent CBM, which is mediocre villains. I won't bother going into much detail because they are the same generic baddies we've seen a hundred times.
The bigger problem is that I thought the movie was extremely predictable. I don't mean just in terms of the big picture. We know James Bond is likely going to stop the villain and save the world. The fun is in seeing how it happens. Even Marvel which is notorious for being formulaic managed to throw some twists in how things were resolved in their two films from last year. But here, practically every single major story beat is telegraphed well in advance. There isn't a single surprise or twist or anything in this movie. It happens exactly how you would expect. As an example, take X-24. The very second he appears on screen I knew how he would be defeated and the circumstances surrounding it. And sure enough, an hour later it happens exactly like that. And that's just one example. The whole movie is like that.
Overall, 8/10. What it does well, it does really well, and it is perfect as a sendoff for Jackman and Stewart, but the flaws are too glaring for me to give it more than that.
