Man of Steel Box Office Prediction Thread - Part 1

Hi Doug22 :woot:

You must be really angry that Man of Steel is looking like being a huge success and a new start for Superman. Sequels and JL or World's Finest seem very likely, and your favorite subject about the court order and Superman's 'legal 'problems' has also now gone away for good:woot:

Even so,you are still trying to put down the new films box office and hoping that it wont be successful.

If you or others think I'm being over the top then just check out all your previous posts.

You are a longtime subtle Superman hater who wants him to vanish.

Good day to you Sir.

This post explains it all.
I had the feeling that guy, with his ''predictions'', wasn't exactly a fan of Superman.:yay:

I'm a huge Supes fan though a frustrated one in the sense I feel DC has not developed the character well in recent years and all focus over there seems to be Batman.

The only comics I own are almost all Superman.

Smallville, the Reeve films - stuff I collect. Even stuff from SR.

I've just started writing fanfic (not saying I'm a great writer) but I had Superman stories I wanted to tell. Superman is the only fic I write.

One in particular "I Didn't Know" I think would make for a great graphic novel. It incorporates the Smallville Lex, the L&C Lois and a lot of elements from the mythos.

Check it out and let me know what you think. I'm just getting into doing more dialog which is hard for me but I think I got some good lines in chapter 3 of the story 'Bruce's Guilt'. It's not complete and right now comes of as a mystery. Note my avatar at fanfiction.net - none other than Cavill in suit standing before an American flag painted on a building.

My estimates are spot in the middle of Deadlines and BOM. Deadline says 220 million, BOM 300 million and I say 260 million or so. IMO very realistic.

Told you guys IRON MAN wouldn't open under 170m. To think some of you thought it would do in the 130s, which is basically topped yesterday.

After Earth starring Will Smith moving up a week has convinced me this film is going to be huge. After Earth moving up is a huge deal, rival studios know this film is going to huge and are scared of it.

Did it move to 6/7 or from 6/7? Current EW has it as 6/7.

So Tobias, you are ignoring and not questioning me about my accusations,so I presume that I'm right that you were Doug22 from the Superman Homepage.

And how do you explain the huge amount of negative Superman and Superman franchise posts you have made?

k I was totally wrong with my IM3 prediction lol. Didn't think audiences would cling to it due to IM2 welp, looks like we have $175M OW 2nd biggest of all-time. Not sure MoS can rival those numbers...

In fact, I would say it's highly unlikely but you never know. IM has the backing of The Avengers, IM2, IM1... MoS has the backing of the recent TDK Trilogy and forgotten Superman Returns.

There would be nothing wrong with a $140M OW for MoS though making it the 10th biggest opening weekend ever :woot:

What's your prediction for MoS? That's the important question on this board :yay:

TOTAL OPENING WEEKEND
Man of Steel opens to a large $145 million, shattering the June opening weekend record and making WB mess their pants around the globe. Everybody in the country is now aware that MAN OF STEEL is the break out of the summer, and with no big films remaining to garner mass excitement, everyone begins making plans to see it (or see it again).
Jon Peters approves!

I can't see MOS opening that big.
I want it to open to triple-digit numbers but...
I really am worried about the box office success of MOS.
I'm hoping Excel's predictions become a reality. An opening of 145 million would be great.

I didn't realize just how much every sign is truly pointing to LARGE SCALE break out. That run...if WB agreed to pay BALE more money than god to come out for justice league...JL MIGHT top avatar, it would be so big.

Stop making sense here. People don't like it.

Bale and Cavil for a worlds finest would mess things up too much with all sorts of tonal and story inconsistencies...

...So why am I still drooling thinking about it.

Right now, What do you think it will open to?

Nothing would excite me and make me fearful at the same time, more than Man of Steel making a crap load of money, because it would mean that WB will likely want to open up the DC world, how they go about it though is all up to them...terrifying.

"This proves that people really liked GL" DC excutives will think or they COULD.
Scary indeed.

Are you worried that it won't do well?

Idk. I'm not really a box office analysist
Opening weekend
Worst case: 80's/90's
Best case: 100-115

I just can't see it opening to 145
But, maybe in the next month, TV spots will explode everywhere. So who knows.
I just want a great Superman film at the end of the day.
But I also want sequels if it's great.

I see a 90 million opening too. In that case MOS needs a strong 3+ multiplier to get to the magic 300 million mark. And then needs to match that with 300 million OS. Based on Goyer's comments about 80 million people need to see the film that comes out to 630 million or so I read. Apparently that is the number WB needs/wants for them to continue with a JL film featuring Cavill.

I guess the JL film would come first and then, assuming Cavill is signed on for 3 films total, you'd get one more MOS film out of him after JL.

I think -

* If MOS is successful, then I think that we will get a JL movie and MOS 2 soon.

* If MOS earns less than 600 mil, then we will get JL movie and a Batman reboot but no MOS 2. (IF JL is successful then maybe MOS 2)

* IF MOS makes less than adjusted SR numbers, then no JL, no MOS 2, no other DC movies except a Batman reboot.
