Today begins the next round of competition. It actually started last night. DM2 looks like it will be huge. Lone Ranger is getting terrible reviews but may steal some of the POC crowd during it's opening week. Like to see MOS hold 50% of it's audience this weekend.

Why is it still hard to believe to some think about it MOS has grossed 520 mil in 3 1/2 weeks it still has to be in theaters for another 11 1/2 weeks do the math at this point it can get another 480 by the end of its run it will gain additional 30- 60 mil this week and knocking on 600 mil door it took the hobbit its entire run to get 300 dom and mos is out pacing it in everyway in all markets and I dont see where the poor os marketing was bad how can a movie be #1 in all the os markets for 2 weeks with bad marketing MOS is still making money its slowinh down only in tge us not the rest of the world to me is on pace for 1,012,000,000 somewherr in that range

I am definitely rooting for the 1B mark.. fingers crossed...

Thats even more impressive I just want people on herr to do tgr math if MOS gross 2 mil a day for OS and thats with all the markets combine with all the days left which is 92 days something like that caculate and what answer to you come up with just cuz it dont make a billion in 3 weeks dont mean it won't get there and in this movie favor is the 520 in 2 1/2 weeks with nearly 3 months left in theaters even if it gets 700,000,000 a day in dom it wilo still cross the 300 mark

Nah, guys. As much as I'd like to, Man of Steel is not going to hit the 1B mark.

Something happened to the box office in the 1990's. I was looking at some popular movies from the 80's. They had incredibly long theatrical runs.

E.T. came out June 11, 1982. It was still number 1 as late as Dec 3. It was in the theaters for a year. Ghostbusters debut June 8,1984 and was number one as late as Sep14. Same thing goes for other big hits in the 80's. A lot of these movies had bigger weekends after their opening week.

They played a long time before they were available on VCR.

Got tired of all the non believers I was just the person who reads this thread everday but I couldn't take it anymore superman fans stand up and by the way saw Man of Steel 17 times love it and the attitude in it so glad they didnt do a donner superman then it would have bombed like superman returns

Home video and pay-tv happened! ;)

I know home video and paid TV happened. But I was trying to see if the change was gradual or quick. I feel like Batman 89 may have been one of the first movies where the OW became a craze.

LOL. Poor JOE is trying hard to fill Tobias boots. Too bad for him that MOS is doing great. :(

By the way two major markets haven't opened yet and an additional 100 million how can a movie make half a billion in 18 days and not make more than 700 million its entire run only if it was a flock and this movie isnt a flock

2 1/2. But yeah, still a great success. :D

Movies tend to be fronloaded these days. I repeat, as much as I'd love to, I don' think it'll reach 1B. It's doing very good, though, and can be considered a success.

Denial... I think...

At least Tobias is honorable and sticks to his numbers... (and he doesn't personally attack others)

And I just want to point the facts out marvel fanboys think that im3 made a billion fast thats only becuse it open os first at least a month so when it opened in the usa with 174 mil ow it was already at a half a billion MOS opened in the us first so and only a few othet markets I say im3 made 1.2 billion MOS will make 200 mill less and not a dime more

Agreed. Indeed, Tobias is polite and he doesn't deserve some of the more agressive replies he gets here.

I wouldn't use IM3 as a comparison but IM3 opened a week OS before it opened in USA.

I think it's better to compare other June releases to MOS.

You're right, except for 1 thing... IM3 had and extremely HUGE overseas marketing campaign. They even go as far as doing an extra 4 min footage with Chinese stars.. marketing in China was crazy... they have a local distributor produce their footage there... And made 120M in china alone...

Contrast that to the almost non-existent promo of MOS in most of the Overseas market..

Don't get me wrong, i think MOS would have done as well as IM3 if it had better marketing/better release date.

But I am still hoping you're right...

Your methodology isn't very sound.

I highly doubt that..... but I can't disprove it.

Comparing MOS to Iron Man 3 was never going to work. Iron Man 3 had tremendous momentum from Avengers and previous Iron Man films. That's why I always say I'm more impressed with the box office success of the first Iron Man film. That launched everything.
