I think the difference in impact between LR's reviews and MoS's (besides MoS's not being as bad), is that a lot of people already had a lot of preconceived notions that the lone ranger would be a stinker while for MoS there was a lot of hope or assumption it would be a good film, so the negative reviews were probably easier to shrug off.

With the bad reviews some of the audiences are likely assuming their first notions were correct then.

The trailers for MOS were great and had many highly anticipating the film so the mixed reviews barely made a dent in OW. I do think a rotten score on RT may be playing a role with "on the fence" types, but since so many have seen MOS already and the WOM is generally good I think this negates the so-so critical reception. I doubt RT will have much effect on MOS when all is said and done. LR is tracking poorly and the trailers were not received well so the bad reviews may play more of a role. Also, the field is much more crowded than it was when MOS opened. However, I would not write it off as a bomb quite yet though as Johnny Depp is a huge star here and OS and audiences may respond positively to it even if critics have not.

Yep, if that 3.5 million is right, and then we get a tuesday bump, and then July 4th holiday then my mini-prediction of $275m by the end of this upcoming weekend could be right.

And if that happens then I think $300 becomes a lowball. Depending on how this week goes it could potentially challenge IM1 domestic total of $318m. Crossing fingers.

Since it is being discussed here, just watched "The Lone Ranger". It was very very disappointing, and went on for way too long.

it will spice up and hype up the whole China market. and i believe it will make more than IM3. 100M.

WB's OS marketing was off the charts downright non-existent... (I am so mad at them for that alone, as I do believe they have lost a lot of money on MOS because of it)

So, yeah, I doubt they'll be smart like that...

Assuming its going to be in theaters for about 20 weeks, it would have to retain about 60% of it weekly audience. I don't see that happening so I would have to say no.

I've got a question.

Do Superman fans want this to do that well?

I'm a pretty big Supes fan myself (favorite DC character along with Flash and Green Lantern), but I was not that pleased with the movie. I really think the sequel will be better.....

...but only if WB thinks money was left on the table due to script problems. I wanted enough for a sequel (mission accomplished!) but not enough for WB to think they hired the right people to write this.

I agree Superman should be at least as big as Iron Man (He's Superman after all), but passing IM1 might doom a sequel to "more of the same". As a matter of fact, it could be worse than that....WB might just think this is the template for all future DC movies if it does well enough. Do I want the Flash movie to be like this? No. Do I want the next Superman movie to be like this? No. Do I want the possible JL movie to be like this? No!

At this point, good box office might be a terrible thing.

^I'm in the same boat as you. But where do you draw the line of enough money and not too much. Seems a bit silly that WB would have such a threshold.

Every character is different...I don't think WB is gonna force all their characters into the MOS mold.
However I had no real issues with this movie...and if JL is more like this only bigger I will be happy

Btw I really think by casting an asian actress as lex body guard can really expand further the OS. She could be the 2nd FAORA.

Me too. I think the script was fine, my only problem was the editing.

My only problem with the editing was that despite some really amazing moments in the first act, they were too quick! That's my only complaint about the film.

I was actually a bit glad it crashed second weekend; hopefully it gave WB pause to trust the same team again and if not get rid of them at least get someone more competent to help in a big way.
