This week's Sunday to Monday drop is far better than the 63% drop from last Sunday-Monday.

I totally agree with that. Even when I saw DP Clark, it was like seeing an old friend. I dont think people were interested in Kal-El. People like Clark.

But I was very interested in Kal and farm boy Clark.
Clark is Kal-El. Kal-El is Clark.

Yeah, that is WB estimate for today 52% drop is pretty typical for a Monday. Man of Steel is stabilizing. 3.04 is better than I expected today. (2.75 is what I originally thought). Could have a 11-14 million week which would be good to go with a 12 million weekend. 270 million after this weekend means 300m is on the table.

So it WAS because of the competition.

It is quite interesting that the doom sayers remain silent when the movie does well but say it is a failure when there is a bigger than expected drop.

It's stabilized. Hopefully it will do well today also. Then the next round of competition kicks in.

Two weeks to make as much money as it can before PR destroys all in its path.

I want it to milk as much money as it can going into the 4 day Fourth Of July weekend.

I admit. After the bad second week drop-off, I feared we were headed for a free-fall.

Clark is Kal-El. Kal-El is Clark.

Pacific Rim even with it's good release date just doesn't look to be an interest for most audience's. I'm a massive Godzilla/Kaiju fan and I could care less tbh.
I would rather Toro had given us Hellboy 3 this year but whatever.
Doesn't Wolverine come out the next week ?

I think Wolverine comes out July 26 but I have very little interest in it.

The irony with PR is that the box office competition really eases up. Since Man of Steel has been released there have been four major releases with two more on the way this week.

Yeah, same here. It doesn't look bad, and I always want to see James Mangold do well since he's the only major film director I've ever met and he's a cool guy. But I just have very little interest in the movie. I'm sure I'll catch it on Blu-Ray though.

July 19th is kinda dead for new movies. R.I.P.D.
The Wolverine comes out July 26th. Who here thinks MOS2 will hit July 17th 2015? Slot is open as of now. CC announcement? They need to announce something for the DCCU imo very soon. I believe we get MOS2 in 2015 and Justice League/WF the following year. I would prefer MOS2 in 2016 and JLA somewhere along the lines of 2019, with Flash/WW/WF in-between those dates.

I'm actually looking forward to PR......

I mean.......it's giant robots vs giant monsters!!!

Yeah, R.I.P.D. and The Wolverine are pretty much it after July 12th.

I think the reason why certain people aren't fond of this Superman is due to the fact that the transition from the old Superman to the current Superman has never been made.

For the past few decades now, comics and superheroes have began to move away from being cheesy and aimed at kids to being more mature and more aimed at adults. This transformation reached an all-time-high in the past few years specifically since more comic book movies started to be made. Most of the big superheroes, such as Batman and Spider-Man, haven't had the problem of people not being used to a particular version of them to the same extent Superman has with MOS because they had casual transitions from cheesy to more mature. Superman did not.

Let's take Batman for example since he arguably had the best transition and that is also arguably part of the reason why he is the top dog of superheroes at the moment. We did not go directly from the campy Adam West TV series to the gritty Nolan films. We naturally got there overtime. First, we had the Burton/Schumacher franchise. With the exception of Batman & Robin, all 3 films were still darker than the Adam West series and took themselves more seriously yet they still weren't as dark as the Batman comics we know. However, they were a step in the right direction. We eventually got the right tone of the Batman of the comics with Batman Begins. Had it not been for that transition, Batman Begins might not have had the critical praise that it did. That would have possibly been the case if BB came out back in 1989.

In Superman's case, the last time we saw a proper Superman on the big screen was back in the late 70's/very early 80's and that was the Bronze Age Superman. Most people did not see the transition from that Superman to the John Byrne/Birthright Superman of the Post-Crisis comics, which is a bit more serious and more realistic in comparison. What we have instead was a giant gap between those two versions with nothing in between to create a natural transition, which wasn't the case for Batman. Sure that we had Superman Returns but that was almost a complete rehash of the first Donner film in terms of story and tone so I wouldn't count it.

More competition kicks in and more theaters are lost. I was looking to watch Man of Steel tomorrow and noticed that lack of showings that kick in with LR and DM2. One odd thing I noticed is that a theater near me doesn't have WWZ and a lot more of MOS. Hmmm.
