Man of Steel Box Office Prediction Thread - - Part 11

It gets compared to IM3 as far as the box office because a lot of people were stating (once the trailers came out for MOS) that it was going to be a threat to IM3 for biggest movie of the year. Now that it's confirmed it won't be topping it, or coming close for that matter, it's regularly compared to.

No experts were though. IM3 was always pegged to be the highest grosser of the year although it did exceed even some of those expectations.

All Worldwide Gross:
Iron Man (2008)[/B] : $585,174,222
The Incredible Hulk (2008) : $263,427,551
Iron Man 2 (2010) : $623,933,331
Thor (2011) : $449,326,618
Captain America (2011) : $368,608,363

This is brilliant. I posted something very similar to this way back before the movie came out. Anything over 600M WW, which is already locked, and you're considered the third best start to a franchise in CBM history (Behind SM1 and TASM) unless it passes 750M then it'd be second.

The film is successful, numbers don't lie. But it's not as successful as a lot of people predicted. However, that's relative. Around 45% of the people who voted on the poll predicted 800M or greater for the movie. The BO expectations were enormous for a reboot. If the predictions were a bit more modest all around, the money it's making right now would have seemed like a lot more.

Fact is fact though, it's making money. Just not to TSHHB predictions.

I read on one of those box office sites a prediction for 12 mill this weekend.

I think peoples fixation on a billion comes from the rarity of the occurence.
So they assume a billion is the one true indicator of success .
Clearly ,MOS is disproving that notion.

so this should very well hit or pass the $270m mark this weekend.

Lets round it off to 260. It should make at least 10 mill this weekend and hit 270. This weekend is it's last double digit weekend. Then we'll start moving along much more slowly.

All this guy's post have been to debunk MOS success... This one is one of the folks that will not admit to the success of MOS and ones that didn't like the movie either... He forget that right now it's at 525mil WW and after this weekends' OS update it will be 585-600 mil WW. Domestic it will hit 270 million after the weekend is over. BTW... the real Kevin Smith love MOS... this guy is fake... lol

His love for MOS to succeed has been all over the place.
How can you say this guy pretending to be Kevin Smith is trying to debunk MOS success?

I mean on 6/21 Kevin Smith wrote,
"
Movie isn't going to do **** this weekend....it will limp on the rest of the year. Be lucky if it does 250 mil. "

On 6/22,
"I will be surprised if MOS makes it to 250 domestically. WOM is that bad on it. Makes me sad. "

and my favorite of all,
"No, I'm not. I'm seriously worried there won't be a sequel and it will fail to meet expectations at the box office. I'll be surprised if MOS gets 250 by the end of its run, domestically...400 mil worldwide would be lucky. :-/ "

So you (Kevin Smith) were so concerned MOS would not get a sequel because you thought it would only make 400 mil WW if "lucky" and now that it blew past all your predictions you are saying that 600 mil still makes you worried it will not get a sequel?
I'm sure in a week or so, after MOS crosses the 600 mark you will be saying that 700 will not guarantee a sequel either.
Sometimes I feel you are talking about John Carter or the Lone Ranger when I read your posts concerning MOS.
I guess you really prefer a reboot for whatever your reasons are, and are on a losing campaign to promote the idea that MOS failed and WB should go back to the drawing board.
It seems you will have to wait 15 years for your reboot.:whatever:

Didnt Tobias say the most the movie would make would be about $275?
It looks like MOS will exceed that amount quite easily

762M :yay:

To be honest, I feared we were headed for a free-fall after the second week drop-off. I thought it cost us a shot at 300 mill. I'm glad it stabilized. Want this to succeed and it's succeeding. Lets gather as much money now before we start losing more and more screens.

I will say this..........for all the **** reviews and bad press Lone Ranger was getting, my showing was PACKED yesterday.

It's possible that news is filtering through to the general audience that the movie (MoS) reads much better on a second viewing so some people are giving it another chance while they wait for the next 'big thing'.

MOS was so much better the second viewing... After knowing how the movie was like the first viewing I open to the changes the second time and I simply love the direction and how the movie was beautifully done. After the 3rd and 4th viewing I simply was just very satisfy and wish the movie was 3 hours long or for the sequel to be here sooner... :woot:

The score was so epic... love it...

Yes he did! It just dawned on me where he is. He's feverishly writing his letter to the powers that be at WB, but instead of telling them that they got everything wrong with MOS, and if they listen to his counsel he'll tell them how to make MOS 2 'the heroic movie he deserves' but not the one he got right now, he's begging them to cut their losses and yank MOS from theaters, before it hits $275 million around the middle of next week. This way his latest B.O. Prediction (there's been a crap load of them) comes true, and he looks like a veritable Nostradamus of B.O. Pontificating! Just a hunch on my part lol.

So is it too early to cap it? Are we talking 280-290?

It'll probably make $10-12 million between July 8th through the 14th. That's $280 million plus in 31 days. It's probably got 3-4 weeks of first run theaters after that, so it will almost certainly break $300 million as WB will likely leave it out there until it does. Someone said it took TDKR 33 weeks to cross $1 billion WW so MOS could be out there for quite a while.
It would be nice if a window opens up in IMAX theaters in a couple of months, so it could get a limited return engagement for a week or so.

Hilarious. Again, if someone dislikes the movie, fine. But it's when someone dislikes a movie, and then fails to look at the numbers objectively and come up with outlandish projections and scenarios just to meet their agenda, it's just completely wrong. Then these same people are constantly revising. If it doesn't get $400M WW then it is a failure no sequel. Then, if it doesn't get $600M WW it's a failure and won't get sequel. Looks like that is happening, so lets revise once again, if it doesn't reach $700M then it's a failure and the sequel is in jeopardy. Pathetic. :whatever:

I still plan on seeing it, especially as someone mentioned that they use The William Tell Overture during the last 15 minutes. I'll make my own mind up if it is a turd or not.
