So numbers, it looks to be about $3.0M for MoS. Good holiday boost.

SR made a little over 400 mil worldwide adjusted...MOS has about 120 more than that, and I doubt it will crawl to anything over 600 mil (WW) if it reaches 600 at all. How does this warrant a sequel "for sure"? Because to me it just sounds like wishful thinking.

I don't I just didn't credit Rth this time, also I think deadline might have it up.

You do realize $650m is pretty much a lock right? The question is if it goes over $700m or not.

Why do you keep making weird stuff up?

Even 650...how does this guarantee a sequel? I want one, I'm just worried.

It guarantee's one because this film would end up being quite profitable. Also a strong starting point for a "DCU". Have you not been keeping up with this stuff?

Because its good enough and WB don't have anything else to run with. They aren't like Disney where they can just fall back on for sure hits if something doesn't perform. MoS at the very least did well enough.

I've been keeping up with it enough, and no question that it's profitable, but did it make enough for WB to say "let's do another"? It seems like kind of an average success and not a HUGE SMASHING one and reactions have been really mixed from fans and critics alike, split right down the middle, who is to say who would even show up for a sequel if there were one? Isn't WB thinking like that?

oh NOoooooOOOOOOOOOooooooooo!!!!
NO Sequel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Let's cry!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

oh wait...

you don't want the sequel....

let's celebrate!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

k? :)

You know - and this isn't aimed at anyone in particular, just the whole craziness of the industry standards now - but it's pretty freaking crazy to think that a movie that has made over $500 million might not get a sequel.

I mean, seriously, I remember the days when a $100-200 million over the entire run was pretty damn good. And I'm not talking about "back in the 70's" or something. Really, it wasn't that long ago. When did over $500 million per movie" become borderline failure in some people's eyes?

It's just crazy. And this whole thing of each movie costing almost $200 million each to make. I just do not get it...

Anyways. Yay for MoS having a bit of a boost today! Keeping my fingers crossed it gets one this weekend too!

Huh, interesting.

From yesterday to today, the kid's movies went down in percentage, while the adult movies went up. I guess the adults with kids took their kids outside to parades and such, and the adults without kids, went to the movies! LOL!

There is also this. The Hobbit only has two films left, and there is no Harry Potter these days.

But I DO want a sequel. I want MORE Superman films and I want them to be as good as I hope and know they can be, and whether that's a sequel to MOS or not I'll take it. If that's the quickest way to get Superman on screen again, then I absolutely hope MOS gets a sequel ASAP. I never said I didn't want one....I was just worried whether or not it would actually get one or not. Because I've been there before where I absolutely am sure a film will get a sequel and we hear rumors for a year(s) and then....NOTHING. Would rather be pleasantly surprised than disappointed is all.

I honestly do think I would cry if there ends up being no sequel. That's why I'm here right now....because I'm worried. Lol

I blame Spider-Man 1 for the pissing contest that ensued. As for when a film is deemed a failure, pretty much it comes down to what people want. I still laugh at those people being disappointed with Amazing Spider-Man 'only' making 3/4 of a billion dollars.

This movie is a lock for 600m (I doubt it will cross 700m) that all but guarantees a sequel. For me the only question is, does MoS 2 come out before or after Justice League. If I were making the decisions at WB I would make a Justice League movie because the world will eat up any superhero team after they watch Avengers 2 and when (yes, WHEN) JL is a massive hit then MoS 2 is going to get a boost like IM 3 got a boost from Avengers.

It's ridiculous. You know how many studios would KILL for their movie to make 762m BEFORE it hits blu ray and dvd.

Huh, interesting.

The ultra expensive movies need to make at least 500-600M to break even... also depends on their marketing tie-ins, etc... for example, if a movie like MOS cost 225M, it'll need at least 600M WW to break even... (before taking into consideration toys, dvd sales, licensing, etc).

And I guess cost of movie production keeps going up... actors who are indispensable will demand more money, etc... cost of special effects...

Interestingly, White House Down cost twice as much as Olypus has fallen, but is likely to make less money... and both looks about the same to me in terms of production quality... so, i am not sure how each director spends his money... maybe they do need some control on budgets... before we know it, they'll be making movies that cost 500M and needs something like 1.5B to make a profit...

Looks like Despicable me is not filling up the Imax theater they took away from MOS.. I think they would have made more money if they had divided the showings between DM2 and MOS... bad for MOS... bad for the CINEMA owner.. cause it's a lose lose...

In fact the 11pm show only had like 5% of the seat taken... if they had given it to MOS, it'll likely be filled up... cause kids don't stay up that late...

Ok, I just checked all the time slots for IMAX here...

8pm show (only 65% full), 10pm (only 40%) ,and 12pm (only a few seats sold)

Now, I am sure MOS would have filled far more seats...

This is a clear example where losing screens is a big factor (due to new movie releases) for MOS's total Box Office..

I remember, just recently some people actually thought losing screens is a myth (in terms of losing sales).

The sequel conversation is ridiculous. This movie was a lock for a sequel after the opening weekend. It's currently the second highest grossing movie of the year domestically and fourth worldwide (and will almost definitely pass the two non-Iron Man movies ahead of it.) It's more than likely going to finish top five for the year domestically and worldwide; movies like that get sequels even MORE so when they're set up to get sequels in the first place.

WB is eyeing what Disney has done with the MCU (using a combined universe to turn second rate superheroes into big grossers, having the Avengers gross 1.5 billion)... They absolutely view this as a starting point.

Regardless of whether you liked the movie anyone who is trying to characterize the Man of Steel box office as anything other than a massive success is either a hater with an agenda or a complete fool.

Disney didn't really do that.

I think thwe budget also went into the consideration when talking about this subject.

Blockbuster these days cost the movie studios a huge amount of money. 150-200 millions is almost the norm these days, and some of that number doesn't include marketing cost etc.

More recent example is the Lone ranger, i've heard that the movie cost around 250 mill to make, so i don't think the studio would be content with just making their budget back when they pumped that kind of money into a project.

Del Toro is returning to the big screen pretty soon. Transformers X 100. I donno how these CGI fest movies survive out there...

I'd imagine this is going to take even more legs away.
