The only movies that come close to fitting such a criteria would be the Twilight and Potter movies I believe. The shining example of frontloading for blockbusters.

As I've said before, it'll crawl over 300...if it gallops, even better.:yay:

I wonder if Tobias is watching?

I think most people do think 300 is happening but a few people on here seem pretty committed to the notion that it won't and that if it does it will be because WB "slow walks" it. If it means keeping it out in the theatre until the last possible dollar is made before the blu ray drops then that is just standard practice for every successful movie.

I wonder if they will pull an Avengers and have an 'special return engagement with bonus footage right around labor day? (for the record, I love Avengers and am only referencing as an example of a studio milking every cent out of a movie). I would definitely revisit the movie on the big screen to see an extended cut before I buy the blu ray.

Twilight and Potter were not received the same by the GA. In fact the last Harry Potter movie was very well received. The last Twilight movie, not as much. I wouldn't put them in the same category.

Aside from the last Potter movie they all performed very similar. You can generally say Twilight is more frontloaded overall but both are still within the same neighborhood.

Liam_H, you are the box office guru of these forums.

Or ChiChi has been making him do math homework since season 1 of DBZ so he's extremely good with numbers?

What are you thinking for tonight $900,000? Over a million? I'd be happy if it averages 750-800,000 Monday through Thursday that could get it very close to $285 million. Hopefully a high $2 million or $3million for the weekend. I still think it can be at $290 Million or so by the 29th.

I just looked through almost all of the Harry Potter movies and several have them have performed very similarly to Mos, but they all added at least 20 million after their 31st day at the domestic box office when converted to 2013 prices.

I still haven't been able to find a movie that provides an example of a movie doing similar business to Mos that didn't cross 300 mil.

If MOS hit 1 million or the numbers you stated for today it would easily hit 300 in 2-3 weeks. After that, anything it makes is icing on the cake.

Looking at Sunday number, the rest of the week could play out something like this...

Mon- 0.635M
Tue- 0.730M
Wed- 0.584M
Thur- 0.555M

A few things of note to note is that the % change on Wednesday and Thursday could be a lot different considering the four new wide releases coming out this weekend. Turbo on Wednesday and the other 3 with previews on Thursday night.

I'm with Liam when he said that 700 would be the roof on this.

You don't see what is awesome about giant monsters fighting giant robots? Are you on the right website? :funny:
It it were called Transformers 5 then yes, but just like the turd Battleship we're getting shoved more TF rip-offs when we should be getting the real genuine article.

Not saying he's wrong but because Japan and to a lesser extent Brazil remain unknowns, I see $700 M or so being the bottom, not the roof. As I am not an expert this is just pure conjecture on my part. Right now we are at around $620 Million WW. Add perhaps $20M more for the rest of it's run Stateside, and possibly $20 Million more for Brazil. Okay now we are at $660 Million. The UK, China (10 M more for China?) and Australia look to add more, plus the rest of the World where is still has something left in the gas tank. We'll have to see but the final #'s are probably in late September or October but it could surprise. I'm not saying it's doing $ 800 million, but north of $700 million is not IMO unthinkable.

:yay:
I've seen MOS five times. From what I've seen from the trailers, PR is worth a look. Superficially, it looks like a great popcorn type movie.
PR is good IMO its a mishmash of Neon Genesis Evangelion,Gundam,Voltron and Japanese versions of Godzilla, lots of angst, guilt, etc. Too bad acting is bad with the exception of Rinku and Charlei

Its has held up far better than I thought in China to get to where its at. But it does not have that much time left. It will be pulled by Sunday I believe.

Hopefully it can pull in $8-10 million more by then, plus I wouldn't be surprised to see another $5-10 million from the UK. :yay:

GDT is the genuine article and he made a film that walks all over those terrible Transformers films.

Rarely utter such a phrase in this thread but its a lock that it won't make as much that before it leaves the theaters.

You could be right, but we'll know for sure in regards to China next Monday. You already acknowledged that it has performed better than you expected in China. As far as the UK goes it probably has a few weeks of BO left before we will have a final figure from there.

Is the TF trilogy better received internationally than in North America? Because the people who I've asked enjoyed the movies (I live in the UK) and they do make a lot of money internationally.

Cavill/Snyder have saved a lot of lives by making MOS. I'm really grateful for all that they've done for humanity. Imagine all the people who didn't have anything to live for and now have the DVD release of MOS to look forward to. I wish I was in their shoes so I could have been saved by MOS. Although MOS has doubled the value of my life (a life which was already top notch), that is for sure.
