Yeah, a sequel is definitely happening. There really isn't any doubt.

Also, even if the box office for MOS wasn't quite as big as some people were expecting, it still made a lot more than Captain America and Thor. Yet, The Avengers still went on to gross a billion dollars. Thus, this shouldn't deter them from going ahead with Justice League eventually.

I still think it will crawl over 300 domestic and have a ww between 700-750.

When you factor in Brazil and Japan, sure, it's possible...700-750ww.
many may not agree but fast 6 has only done 235,861,960 dom and mos their are more factors as well 1. mos has crossed f6 dom total
2. its already on pace to make more foreign 315,600,000 in 3 weeks was damn good
3.mos is more received in the foreign market than f6
4. most likey mos ww total will be a 30/70 spilt
im really confident that the os market will take it beyond many predictions as it has done.
The hobbit made 303 dom and 700 foreign same goes for alice in Wonderland 334 dom 690 foreign. I dont compare movies by the comics or the reboots I compare them by the market I have seen movies be a us flock but be foreign gold

I'm falling on the side of caution...after wildly speculating it would get close to the magic billion.

The last 20 mill domestic will feel slow.

Yeah. 280-300 will feel like forever.

IMAX theatres die tonight as PR comes out. 7 and 10pm showing tonight, MOS had the 3:45 as the last IMAX showing. It's over.

Hey I'm glad I got to see it in IMAX. It was a spectacle to behold.

After seeing PR I'm now convince that MOS should have move into this time slot... PR isn't going to pull in the number that MOS would. The movie was ok to me. The bad acting ruin the movie for me. For those that complain about some of the flaw MOS had... wait until you see PR... (People will appreciate MOS more after seeing PR) The only thing good about PR is the robots fighting the Kaiju nothing else. The movie really drag when the characters are not in the Jaegers fighting the Kaiju. Character interaction and development was terrible. Not something I would thought would be an issue with Guillermo del Toro directing. Boy was I wrong. Anyway, I won't spoil anything and just leave my feedback at that since this is MOS BO thread. MOS would had made easily 400+ domestic from this slot till the next big movie comes out...

the dom total will move slow but im not just counting on the dom.
its not just about dom anymore mos is on its way to 300dom now the foreign market is what u watch thier is no need to look at the dom total anymore mos is at 275 dom after this weekend it can average 400,000,000 a day for the next 80 days in the u.s ( mos has only been out for 27 days out of 117 or so)
many think that it will just stop making money.
in order for mos not to make 300dom it will have to make below 20,000 a week lol I just don't see that happening anytime soon

I hope WB learns from their mistakes.

400m...........?

350m, sure.

I think MOS would have had a shot at $400M domestic if they released it a week earlier. I guess their thinking was that by releasing it when they did, they'd have more momentum heading into the July 4th weekend. That's sound reasoning (and it performed fairly well that weekend), but releasing it against The Purge and whatever crap that came out the week of June 7th would have ensured two straight weeks of no competition for MOS.

I think WB would be better served introducing the other heroes via World Finest...kind of cranking up anticipation levels to justice league. It would be a safe bet financially and a sure billion dollar franchise even before Justice league lifts off.

Yes. Also they could focus much more on establishing the friendship between Bruce and Clark, which deserves its own movie and which would be only one of too many plot points in a JLA film.
To be honest, I am way more interested in a World Finest movie than in a JLA one, for those reasons. They should give those two alone the spotlight first and then have the sequel to that be JLA, where you can focus on other characters too.

OH and Idris Elba for Green Lantern! I saw an interview with him yesterday, where he said he would love to play a "real" superhero, after the interviewer asked him about his role in the Thor sequel. He would rock that part!

You were predicting $400M+ a couple of months ago, calling it the event movie of the summer.

I also think MoS would have had a better shot at $400M...if it was a better movie.

I agree. The quality of the movie affected its total much more than the release date IMO. Even if it had little to no competition, I don't think it would have come close to 400million. If it was as fantastic movie with amazing WOM, then the dropoffs each week would have been less, and it would have reached 400M instead of crawling to 300.

That reasoning doesnt explain Iron Man 3 to me. That film was such a dissapointment.

Iron Man 3 opened much bigger than MOS, especially since it was riding off the success of Avengers, but if you look at it's weekly dropoffs, they really weren't all that great the first few weeks either. I agree Iron Man 3 was extremely meh, and I think it would have done much better if it was a better movie too.

Looking at a range of movies both successful and less so...I find this trend interesting:

Movies like TDKR and the Ironman Movies (not just 3) as well as less successful movies like Oblivion and Jack the Giant Slayer, Olympus has Fallen all made 20 plus million dollars at the box office in the weeks after they started taking in less than 1 mil per day.

While some people are disappointed

Given that MoS has only been out for 27 days I just don't see how it doesn't hit 300 million. I can't imagine a scenario where it has less time in theaters than films that performed way lower at the box office than it has.

While there a some semantic arguments to be found in this thread about what exactly "lock" means, to me it means when discussing box office it means "a number that a film is guaranteed to reach". Based on the box office trends for the range of movies above and given that the in theater life span of MoS follows standard summer trends, 300 is a "Lock".

How about Transformers: Dark of the Moon? I actually like the movie but seeing as how so many people "hate" it and the M. Bay movies are such "bad" quality movies, I don't understand why it is making so much money.

If MOS was a universally loved movie, it may have made more, but there is no evidence to suggest it would have made a lot more. :yay:

And no Superman's fame is not evidence.
