Man of Steel Box Office Prediction Thread - Part 2

There are many 10pm shows on the 13th if you live in Canada. I've got my tickets.

Just the US theaters are midnight-only. I don't know how the protocol is with Canada, UK and overseas territories.

HSX says that the current tracking for MOS is a $108M opening weekend. That would be impressive if that actually happened.

But anything above $80M is a win in my book.
Agreed 100%.
but I think some people here view 84-88 as a failure .
I think it is important to remember at one point it was tracking $68 Million.

Unfortunately, there will be no 10 p.m. shows of MOS on June 13th, just the midnight ones (unless you happen to be the ones who bought the Wal-Mart exclusive 7 p.m. screening tickets). WB just sent out an e-mail to all the theater chains saying "No 10 p.m. shows for MOS."

Sigh.

I already have my 10 p.m showing booked for June 13th... Now what?

Then again... I'M CANADIAN!!! Sorry guys, guess I'll be seeing it before ya ;) Again, terribly sorry. Did I mention I'm sorry. I apologize for apologizing too much. Sorry.

haha I see it on the 13th at 7.

I just want someone to spill the beans! :@

bought tickets for June 12th (June 11th in the US) here in the Philippines so I get to spoil it first! :)

Looking forward to the start of reviews.

I have to agree. Anything below 95m would be a failure in my eyes. Especially since this movie has more hype than anything in recent memory. Boxoffice.com has it listed as 112m OW.

After earth "bombing" means big things for the audience's state of mind as MoS draws near.

I think RT oursources the 'Critique's Reviews counting' to, perhaps, non-native english speakers... I have seen this a lot when a 'positive review' is counted as a 'negative' and vice versa:

For instance:

By the standards of M. Night's Shyamalan's recent films, After Earth is surprisingly not horrible.

That was given a 'Rotten'... when it should have been a 'Fresh'...

And this:

Will Smith is a fun and funny guy. So why is Smith's sci-fi thriller screaming for a sense of humor?

this was given a 'Fresh', when it should have been a 'negative'

The reviewers themselves select whether their review should be classified as positive or negative.

BTW, saying that a movie is "not horrible" is not the same thing as saying it's good, just as saying that it is "screaming for a sense of humor" is not the same thing as saying that it's bad.

Ah, IC... thanks for clarifying..

I thought that RT had people scouring the newspapers, magazines, online, etc, to find reviews and then take a snippet of it and give it a positive or negative...

FWIW, i've noticed quite a jump in "likes" @ MoS Facebook over the last 5 days or so

has anybody seen this "Now you See Me' that is giving After Earth a run for its money?
I am thinking about seeing it this weekend.

Looks like After Earth is a bomb, not surprised there. (referring to the reviews)

He base story like tom cruise new movie.

Btw, dont underestimate Will smithdrawing power.T

Fast and Furious 6 is on track to beat After Earth this weekend. That is not good considering Fast 6 opened last week.

Same.

And I'll admit, I actually enjoyed After Earth. It was different and it looked beautiful. Sucks that it's getting a very negative reception, but it is what it is I guess.

As for the MOS opening weekend numbers, I honestly can't see this opening with anything less than $100 million. No way. If not, $97 million at least.

I'm hoping MOS blows the roof off this mo-fo with 125+ m OW.

The OW is going to do well. Not sure if it'll break 100M but it'll break 80M for sure with what I've been hearing.

Cavil's total domestic BO since 2001 has been about 200M... That's about to quadruple.

Fun fact.

Anything under 100 m OW would be a disappointment for me.

Especially after Iron Man 3 made 174 m OW.

Are you saying Man Of Steel is going to make 600 million domestic?

I honestly have no idea. I think it could very well be anywhere from a 100 mill to 120 mill ow. It all DEpends on if the public is gonna take to it or not.
Even IF it opens on the lowside, but is as good as we hope, wom should take care of the rest of its BO.

Are you saying Man Of Steel is going to make 600 million domestic?

One can only hope... But no, that was my mistake. I meant 600M WW so I guess what I should have said was almost triple. I think just under 400M domestic is where it will stand if the hype lives up and the fanboys are pleased.
