I feel like I maybe shouldn't have done that?

Maybe I'm wrong and he is okay to say what he wants.

Was I wrong?

Sure, he can say whatever he wants and he's free to keep on hating superman.

But I can choose to ignore him knowing he's a big superman hater. So thanks for that, you're not wrong, it's not like you're taking away his right to speak his mind.

id rather someone just be open with their hate instead of hiding behind a make believe name and pretending to be a fan. meh.

You did what you thought was right. We are all free to say what we want.

Yes, I was a frustrated Superman fan for a long time. Because of what I felt was not being exploited properly by DC. Superman. Their flagship character.

I never hated Superman - I hated what was being done to him.

My initial reaction against MOS was because it was forced/rushed because of the court stuff.

I thought WB would jus throw something together. They didn't however.

My initial feeling that cavil was a rushed choice changed as I saw him.

The trailers and the emerging story convinced me I was wrong. MOS is part of the reason I started writing Superman fic at fanfiction.net. A renewed enthusiasm.

My Superman stories are pretty good actually:

http://www.fanfiction.net/s/9024322/1/I-Didn-t-Know

I felt taken by WB after SR. I was mad not so much at Singer as at WB for allowing the film to happen as it did. Mad at WB, DC and all. I wanted Marvel to take Supes as I believed they'd give the character the treatment it deserved and most important put him on top again where he should be. I stopped buying the comics for a while - though never threw out my Superman collection of books and film/TV memorabilia.

Meanwhile Batman just kept getting bigger.

Because of legal issues I felt the best thing was to do JL w/o Superman as that was a potential monkey wrench in the works. And I really want to see Superman but other DC properties get a shot at solo films.

Read my fic - I love the character but hated what had happened with him over the past 20 years. The film development hell and all that.

What you did is OK. It's what I wrote but, as I say, I was angry and frustrated with the suits at DC and WB.

Anyway, an explanation.

You don't seem so positive about the movie (not saying you're a hater - more like a doubter).

$550 million isn't very good. (For MOS).

man i dont know. lots of us were here during sr and were disappointed.

Anyone in here going to see it in the Lincoln Square in NY on the 13th? I have tickets for 12:01 am :)

The movie looks incredible as I've said. 550 million is a prediction coming off SR and frankly the failure of DC to exploit the character enough.

I really got burned on SR. I thought it would do better than it did and was sick for a day or two after that first weekend release. I recall a headline at one of the movie sites asking, after the opening, is a sequel in doubt. That really hurt. WE had been in development hell since 1995 and now the thought of going into another 10 year development hell angered me to no end. As I said I focused that anger not on Singer but WB and DC.

Skyfall did well after Quantum of Solace.
Just saying.

Well I don't want to sound harsh Tobias but I don't buy it. Your comments are not just about what was being done to Superman by DC and WB,most were directly about Superman and more personal. Also the amount of times you have said these kind of comments says different too. I've seen you do this on other sites before don't forget.

There are other comments you have made on here that are along the same lines that I didn't quote,I only quoted some of them so as to not have a massively long list on here and it was long enough anyway. And you posted almost identical comments on other sites too.

So I'm sorry for being harsh or pointing this out but you've done it for years and I didn't think it was fair to all the decent members on here if they couldn't at least see what you really thought of Big Blue.

Wait...wait....how many people actually missed the trunks?
Nudity > Trunks :yay:

Love Big Blue but was angry for years about what was not being done with him. All I can say.

I've been in a funk over Superman since SR, before really, and ironically MOS brought me out of that. Like I said I started writing Supes fic after seeing the first trailers from MOS.

All I can say. It is what it is.

In any case MOS is making the changes/growing Supes in a way that will reinvigorate the character. Superman should be tops in Japan and not Spidey. He should be the top selling DC book. And he can be again if he is no longer taken for granted by the suits.

MOS is the first step to that happening.

Guess we'll have to leave it at that.

I was not happy at first with the loss of the trunks but Snyder made the right call. The suit looks great and in some scenes I try to imagine the trunks and the scene doesn't work as well.

Snyder and Nolan have made clever breaks with the past. No trunks, the 'S' shield stands for hope and not Superman. A focus on the man - and his facial and chest hair grow which the classic Superman's didn't. No kryptonite. I think it makes more sense that modern science could develop weapons that hurt Superman w/o K. Not sure if that is where they are going.

It's sort of subtle and its meant to draw new fans/interest in the character.

Nudity/trunks. Well the trunks were there I guess for modesty - a little less revealing. But with the dark tone of the suit I don't think that is a real factor.

I mean I actually would rather he walked around naked than wore his trunks.

They said 500mil actually. I'm not saying they weren't lying but that is the official number.

to ur earlier question. WB expected at least 550 mill

Why exactly were people disappointed? By that I mean, what about the trailers or advertising made people excited for the movie?

I genuinely want to know because I honestly do not see it.

Are you asking why people were disappointed with the film?

So why don't you want Superman in the Justice League then? How is that growing or helping the character?

No,sorry,I don't believe a word I'm afraid Tobias. I've just re read your comments and a few others too and I stand by what I've said. What you have said in many many comments is too personal about Supes, and it is what you really think.

Being in a funk doesn't make someone hate like this mate,or justify what you have said. Most of us here were in a funk after Returns! You aren't the only one to be hurt or a bit pissed by that film. No Superman fan that I know either on this site or in my circle of friends has ever said the kind of comments you have repeatedly said about Superman.

Plus you only ever use the box office thread here and none of the other Superman threads?, why is that? IMO it's to just look out for signs of MOS not doing well and hoping that it is going to fall short and fail to get sequels etc etc.

You will just ignore all this and pretend it didn't happen and that no one has actually read your hater comments.

Sorry, but again,I do not buy it.

I'm asking why they were excited? So excited that they were eventually disappointed with the outcome?
Now that is something I couldn't answer because I never thought it looked like or sounded like a good movie. I was disappointed before I saw the film (no physical Supervillain, Spacey playing Hackman Lex and Superman having a kid with Lois) and seeing the film confirmed my disappointment. I have to admit that I never thought it was a "good" film but certainly it got worse in my eyes over the months and years.

I'm asking why they were excited? So excited that they were eventually disappointed with the outcome?

For SR? I really do think it lacked identity but at the same time, tried to ride the coattails from an already successful era that no longer held weight.

Singer was very confusing about SR from the get-go. Was it a reboot or was it a re-telling? Was it a continuation of Superman II or was it a hybrid of a reboot from Superman II? Does it follow the aftermath's of III and IV, or do they not even exist?

Too many black-spots heading into it. People love nostalgia, but I think after word of mouth hit the public, the film severely hit a wall and people were no longer interested in a Superman story heading into a continuation of a Christopher Reeve story without Christopher Reeve anywhere to be found.

Hell, even Cavill I'm sure is going to hear comparisons to Reeve, which he should because Routh was just Brandon Routh acting as Christopher Reeve playing Superman so to many, Reeve is still the definitive Superman rather than Routh putting on a different spin to the character.

Case in point, SR needed to have a ballsy story to wow the public after nostalgic reasons wore away and unfortunately for WB/Singer at the time, the story itself was lame as ever which was the final nail in the coffin for any long term success (thus, MAN OF STEEL....thank GAWD!:word:)
