So is MOS doing better than IM3 OW? Domestic wise

No but Superman is clearly the most popular superhero-

OPENING WEEKEND ORIGINS-
Man Of Steel $120-140mill
Spider-man $114.8mill
Iron Man $98.6mill
Thor $65.7mill
The Amazing Spider-man $62mill
Batman Begins $48.7mill

^ASM opened on a Wednesday and adjusted for inflation and 3D prices Spider-Man out grosses MOS.

Just to clarify, ASM's number is so low because it opened on a Tuesday.

I think Begins opened on a Wednesday.

Who gives a damn? I'm just happy to see Superman back again and doing extremely well.

The record talk was always silly. I just want it to make enough for a sequel to come about. I wanted it to open with 85 or more and it's doing more. I am happy.

Remember when certain posters, even after the release of trailers #3 and #4, predicted MOS would open with $60 million? LOL.

All that matters to me. Anything else such as records I could care less about.

It doesn't out gross MoS. ASM was in 3D as well and came out last year. Ticket prices have not gone up much or at all since last July.

The original Spider-Man was what I was referring to in the second part of my comment.

Exactly!

That is the key. Folks turned out for Superman. Hope that is not lost on WB if MOS doesn't have legs. That some feel the film wasn't too great is secondary. Imagine if this film had had TDK reviews!

Next weekend is key, buzz is building for MU but even more so for Z.

MOS has to get to 300 million domestic - or very close. WB may fudge on that if the OS BO is solid. I think WB absolutely wants to make a JL film next. They will do everything possible to do so IMO.

I only care about the BO because I want WB to make another 2 MOS movies. Marvel fans and superman haters are pissed this movie is making bank and is a huge hit with most critics and fans love it. WOM is huge and even with all the haters its still making people happy

I frankly don't know about WOM. No one can say until we see how much of a drop there is today and Sunday compared to the norm. More important, critical, is next week's performance against MU and Z.

I agree there are haters in the mix. The RT score is absurd. The question is how much are the haters a factor.

People will turn out for a Supes film as MOS proved. If it had been a great film, which I don't think it was, imagine what the final BO would be. it still will hopefully be solid at 600 million or so but the potential was greater. That is what WB hopefully sees.

I dont think WWZ is going to be that big of hit. With critics maybe but not GA. Also WB only expected 85m OW for MOS. They greenlit a sequel and they love the movie. WB isn't worried about the critics and if they were they never would have gotten Snyder to direct.

Comparing BB to MoS is not apples to apples IMO for a significant number of reasons. Nolan was an unknown to the GA back in 2005. Snyder is slightly more known (because of 300) and they're using Nolan's name post TDKT and Inception. BB was coming from B&R which is worse than SR. Marketing is way better in MoS compared to BB.

Regardless MoS is undeniably doing GREAT.

WB has not officially green lit a sequel as far as I know.

It is an interesting point though. If MOS doesn't have legs but gets near 300 million domestic and, given just OK reviews, do they go with JL or an MOS sequel?

I dunno.

Umm...not really. Spider-man made 114 million in 2002. Tickets were WAY less and there was no 3d surcharge. Boxoffice might not be the ultimate indicator of what is most popular. Iron man was NOT popular in 2008 (now he is about neck and neck with Spider-man as Marvel's biggest superhero) but still pulled in more than Batman, x-men, fantastic four, etc.

If the public get's word this is the start of cinematic universe, they will want to see/be a part of it at it's inception(see what I just did there?). I think this would mean stronger numbers down the road.

WB should have added a stinger imo.

You do realize that with inflation and 3D surcharge most of those movies would outgross MoS.

Its doing well, can we please stop the ridiculous talk?

I dunno.

They have already green lit a sequel. It was mentioned a few days ago. They have also announced that MoS 2 will introduce either wonder woman or the new Batman. MOS 2 looks to be before JLA in that case. But check the internet because they green lit and fast tracked it. Snyder and Goyer are returning but they arent sure how much Nolan will be involved

People do realize contemporary inflation works both ways right?
ie, try applying it to film budgets.

...and 3D shooting and conversion costs.

If Man of Steel had come out before Superman Returns then it would have made more. Spider Man was something totally new to the cinemas when it came out so of course it made huge money. Only Spider Man I would say would beat MOS but not the rest of the list because they are too recent and 3D has been out for a couple years now big time
