Man of Steel Box Office Prediction Thread - Part 8

I feel like I am in some bizarro thread. I can't believe some of the stuff I'm reading in here.

I feel the same way... It's amazing the stupidity of some of these folks that comes on here to post...

They must not know their math or something... :whatever:... I guess I know now it cannot be stop or help... let them run their mouth and sit back and watch MOS numbers go up... I'm tire of this BS... :jedi

But Superman Returns did made nearly 400 million dollars worldwide. That's nearly twice its budget.

Man of Steel, despite being more well-liked by the general audience, does not look like it will earn that much more than SR.

This will affect whether Zack Synder is returning for the next movie (especially in light of the infighting in WBs) and whether the next movie will receive the right amount of financial support.

WBs might decide to scrap a direct sequel and opt to make a justice league movie instead, or they might decide let the DC franchise die out again for a few years.

Money for the next film may be an issue with no Legendary. I dunno.

The new head of WB could well take the safe route and throw us a curve.

He needs his fisrt CBM movie to be a success and not blow the budget.

Only one way to do that is reboot batman first.

Do 2 Bat flicks then a JL. That'd push JL to 2019 or so.

Use the JL to introduce the others and reboot/re-introduce Superman. After that do non-Bat solo films.

Just a thought - actually a post I read somewhere. Not my original idea.

I'd love to be a fly on the wall there as I bet there is some interesting conversation going on.

BTW, MOS will yes make just 30 million or more dollars in adjusted figures domestically than SR (ouch) but it will earn about 100 million more OS.

If any one follows Kevin Tsujihara they would know that he knows what he is doing... THe reason why he was chosen and promoted to CEO at WB. There's also a reason they let go of Legendary so they have full profit of their movies and probably to start a DC Studio... We will know in a few months...

Nonsense. The only conversations going on right now is going to their ace-hero writer in Goyer and getting him to start mapping out a sequel and line their ducks in a row as to how to resurrect the DC Universe through Superman and reintroduce The Bat through him.

Just a thought....MOS SHOULD have a reduced budget. By that, we can all safely say that 15-20 million less would still have all kinds of crazy CGI-Supes fun.

Considering that a complaint now is that MOS is too-much action, I would actually like a little less next time around and spend some more time on character interaction.

As some have said, I wouldn't have minded if the world machine fight wasn't even in MOS...still had loads of action.

MOS2 (200 Million budget) with a July release of at least 2 free weeks and same amount of promotional partners (in the 150 million dollar range)....oh,and a SAME DATE release around the globe!

I don't know what's wrong with me, but I feel like their wasn't that much action. There was a lot of destruction though. My only complaint about the movie is that it was too short.

Anyway, I'm happy with the BO and I know there will be a sequel. :D

WB is not rebooting or reintroducing another Superman. Cavill is Superman. They are happy with MOS and they aren't going to scrap it. Nothing from WB has said they aren't happy. Its absurd to even think they should reboot Superman. Batman should not even get a solo movie until JLA is done. We have seen 6 Batman movies. Superman needs his time. The movie isn't some flop. I am glad the ones saying skip MOS2 and do JLA or reboot superman already arent running WB. They already saying Snyder is looking at casting Mark Strong as Lex. Maybe a rumor but why even consider not doing a sequel?? MoS has been out 12 days and made 219m with 188m OS for 408m and you people are talking about reboots already?? I mean seriously wtf is going on here?? It broke OW records but it doesn't deserve a sequel? Oy vey!!!!

May, June, or July...

MOS is mirroring IM3 and TASM right now. 2.4ish multiplier when it is likely all said and done.

Too bad those won't be getting sequels in one form or another.....:o

The multiplier will be 2.14, if you include the Wal-Mart numbers. Like they said on the Box office forums, people were screaming that the Wal-Mart numbers were not included in the weekend totals, and now that the movie looks weak if you include them, everyone wants to forget about them.

First comment like this I've read on the internet since the release....seriously.

I've read that about him. Its why I don't think he will rush out a CBM in 2015 and especially given the juggernaut that will be.

I've read the DC Studios reports too. Makes a lot of sense - if they get Marvel-like talent there.

I suspect if the DC Studios rumor is true they will do that first. Set it up maybe next year and then hand over control to the studio and let them run with it.

The new studio would presumably choose which film to release first and go from there. If the DC Studios thing is true then at this point I'd say it's impossible to say what film WB - oops DC (sounds nice) will go with for it's maiden outing. I'd think Batman reboot cause a new studio is going to need success out of the gate.

It still made 116m wo the wal mart numbers. Its a win either way.

I meant reintroduce Cavill as Superman in JL. Not asking for a new actor though I have a friend or two pining for a certain Tom to step forward. Funny but true.

SUPERMAN is a success. He is the main guy at DC. Where would Batman be without Nolan and Burton? Nolan aint coming back, so you assuming that a new Batman movie is going to be a success or even needed first is wrong imo. We will get another tired BW origin story and another Joker casting to make money. We dont need that at all. They need to leave Batman alone for a while. 6 years at least for solo movies

Way to miss the point.

If you discount Wal-Mart the multiplier jumps to 2.37, if you count it, the number drops to 2.14.

Hence the "it's performing just as well as IM3 did" argument goes out the window.

I don't understand you.

I highly doubt the reboot is going to go through origins. I think it's going to start out like Burton's where he was Batman already.

The Wal mart numbers are a wash. Folks would have bought that extra 12 million anyway at theatres.

I'd think they could determine when the Wal mart tickets were used and if 2 million worth were used that Friday add that to the OD total. Seems logical.

Welling doesn't want the part and he is 6 years older than Cavill. Snyder can give us Brainiac or Doomsday. We need a sequel for MOS to get JLA hyped even more. Introduce a new Batman or WW and then do JLA

Maybe so but ASM did the origin all over again. I just feel Batman needs no introduction and his solo movies need to wait.

If DC Studio is establish they will not go with Batman... MOS is their top dog now... regardless if you like it or not WB knows MOS is the start of their DCU... They will introduce Bruce Wayne in one of the Sequels and start from there with World Finest... and from there probably JL and other side character movie.

That's still 280ish million domestic....wasn't expectation supposed to remain realistic? 300 was always the pipe dream for uber success (realistic anyway). I thought the point was to recoup the budget domestic, as it is with EVERY other film.

Everyone is getting caught up in the argument of supersuccess vs superfailure...no middle ground.

It was frontloaded....and took on a combined 148 million dollar behemoth weekend 2. To say that MOS is weak, and the potential for more isn't there in a future installment is just crazy.

@700 WW isn't pretty damn good for a reboot? What planet is everyone living on?

You move on, you address the problems of the 1st film...and you deliver a tighter product for the sequel. It has been done before. TBH, TASM2 will be very interesting to see next year.

Welling isn't Superman, at least not in a sense big enough for a major motion picture (and yes that's my opinion). He'll never break the Smallville (meaning the TV show) curse of the character just being a bit too goofy for the most part, can't think of a better way to state it: not the accident prone Reeves style Superman, but something else I can't quite define properly.

Welling just isn't big enough for the big screen, basically. And yes his age has a great deal to do with it even in spite of him keeping that somewhat younger look about him.

He just couldn't hold it up, in my opinion (ironic pun not intended).

Here we go again... Again Tom Welling doesn't want to be Superman... We already have our Superman for the next decade in Henry... Tom will be remember for his role as clark only... nothing more...
