MOS doing better than Ironman 1 these latest two days, its improving! 219m on USA already.

So yeah, it will reach 300 easily.

And I see it doing 400 in the foreign market. 700m being the first movie is AWESOME. much more than Thor, Captain America or all the x-men movies. A huge hit, if u ask me.

I agree with everything you said except I still predict $800+ million WW. :woot:

800m is impossible.
The road to 300m depends by next week, but it still very possible.

idk.......I'm just not confident this will get to $300M.......

WOM is so bad people want to see for themselves just how horrible it is!

Nah. I think it's the divided opinions that got people curious. And the trailers and TV spots look sweet as hell. So they say I gotta see what the big deal is.

Early reviews for White House Down don't look to flattering. Nothing much for The Heat right now, but one review makes it sound like a by the numbers buddy cop film with great chemistry between the two leads. For me, that means this weekend is a catch up weekend. Do I see WWZ or catch my third viewing of MOS. I wonder if others will feel the same way and we could see some interesting numbers good or bad.

I feel like Thor 2 is going to beat MOS worldwide which is crazy.

If I told people 5 years ago that Iron Man would be bigger than Batman and Thor bigger than Supes I would've been promptly laughed off the internet.

It just goes to show the brilliance of Marvel's strategy.

In a recent Business Week article it was revealed that Iron Man now has a higher Q score than any other hero. In other words, Iron Man is not only known by a majority of people, but he is also very popular. Superman, in contrast, is well-known but less well-liked. Iron Man's Q score is 52%, Superman's is 32%, Spider-Man is at 47% and Batman at 45%. This is amazing when you consider that six years ago Iron Man was known mainly to comic book fans and no one else, while the other three had been household names for decades.

Please go see MOS again! WWZ can wait :cwink:

I really want to see WHD, but I would rather wait a week or two and give my $$$ to MOS this weekend. It needs the support with all the competition.

Don't worry. One way or another I'm going to see MOS again. Gotta have something to tide me over during the long wait for the Bluray.

I really is crazy to think about. I've grown up on Superman and Batman and was one of the ones who had no interest in Marvel past Spider-man. Once Iron Man came out and the move towards Avengers happened I'm now reading a ton of Marvel books along with my DC. I right this with my NECA 1/4 Iron Man that a few short years ago I would have never had a desire to own.

The sad thing is that'll probably drop pretty hard once RDJ hangs up the helmet. I hope he continues to be a successful character, but nobody knew him before RDJ's incarnation made him a household name, so he's a Jack Sparrow-type to the general audience. The actor is the character. It will be surprising if the repulsor blast strikes twice.

Wild guess. Over 600 million worldwide when it's all said and done. About 225 over its budget and marketing.

You can thank Mr. Robert Downey Jr. for that.

RDJ is the Iron Man franchise which is something i don't know you could have ever said about an actor and a superhero, other than reeve maybe to a lesser extent?

God man what happened? What is Superman not edgy enough for people these days?

People are tire of a boring boyscout perfect superman... This is why MOS happen and for the first time we get a Superman that is relatable. One that isn't perfect but learning to be the Superman we all know...

Robert Downey Jr happened. His charisma and charm completely invigorated Iron Man with a dose of life that will probably never be reproduced by any actor anytime soon.

Yeah but then you had tons of people complaining "Not muh Superman!"

It's like a no win battle.

yep.

And:
- Tech & gadgets (shown stuff more than Nolan Batman)
- Intelligent character (doesn't need a Lucius Fox)
- Quick wit (better than Garfield Spider-Man)
- Extrovert (standing alone)
- Bling-bling (tie with Nolan Batman)

Nowadays people like the Odysseus superhero not someone like Achilles.

Honestly I put most of the blame on Superman Returns.

You know what REALLY bugs me though, is how people criticise that Superman isn't relatable, and then turn around and love Batman and Iron Man. You know, the billionare playboys who spend their days going to parties, driving sports cars, and banging supermodels.

It is, but as long as we got majority of the GA to accept this new take which MOS did. They are heading in the right direction. Plus MOS made superman cool again to the regular GA and teens. It sets itself nicely for an awesome sequel.

I think the edgier, more brutal, but yet, relatable characters came along like (the X-Men) and guys like Frank Miller with Batman who wrote this corny and campy character as a true Dark Knight with grit, agony and despair.

Once the early 90's folk started to transition into that type of anti-hero type thing, Superman was left in the balance as a kooky Boy Scout who got under peoples skin by being too powerful and too good to even care about once you had characters on the other side of the coin who had problems and had tendencies to use their weakness as a strength other than the other way around.

Once the Death of Superman arc followed by the instant Return and lousy writing, the character suffered through love stories like the Lois and Clark television show and writers giving him a voice that spoke in a cheesy way. There was no alternative and no depth to the character, just a hero in blue tights doing things as perfect as possible and stuck in a Chrisopher Reeve world.

The world was ready for something different and Singer's 2006 Superman Returns kind of was the last straw to the Supes character stuck in mud. By the time Returns came out, we had the evolution of Spider-Man, the X-Men movies and Batman Begins going into a whole new path.

Now, with TDK trilogy coming to a close, people are kind of opening themselves up to teammup, campier movies with action sprinkled in when Superman is making up ground to become edgier so-to-speak, which now, is basically becoming an oversatured market.

It's really hard to put a finger on. Superman for so long was treated as this outdated, pulp-cultural icon that the higher-ups refused to pay most attention to. If new things were tried, eventually, the character would fizzle right back into a Donner-verse setting and the same 'ole stories would be told weekly and monthly.

MOS is an effort that is trying to revolutionize the character into modern times, which I love. Problem is, the creator's over the last few decades neglected fresh starts and creative ways to push the character forward, but instead, kept going back to what seemed comfortable and that's what is STILL hurting the Superman character today.
