[YT]lPWCkd_T1A0[/YT] When I learned ol Jugs was going to be a playable character, I knew wed be in for something crazy. The Unstoppable Force lives up to his name, using a mechanic called Momentum, which he gains through movement. Basically, the Juggernaut plays like the Ultimate Warrior. Youll be running around like a maniac all day, clothes-lining people and elbow dropping them, all while talking tons of smack. Who could hate that?
#4 ROGUE
[YT]oYQjC7_3kjk[/YT]
While Im not personally a fan of Rogue, she sort of automatically gets a spot on any fun list simply due to sheer possibilities she has available. Rogue is essentially a create-your-character in Marvel Heroes in that you can make your own build comprised of other characters abilities, including bosses, playable heroes, and even team-ups. Sure, like anything else, the community has figured out the most potent ability combinations, but if youre just looking to have fun, you can go pretty wild with the possibilities.
#3 HULK
![]()
Gazillion truly captured the rampaging chaotic gameplay with the 52 rework of The Hulk a while back. While the green machine isnt as powerful as he used to be, he still brings the pain, and has a lot of fun doing it. As the Hulk, youll be goomba-stomping guys all day, roaring, ripping meteors out of the sky, and my personal favorite, ripping a car in half and wearing the halves as gigantic boxing gloves. If you just want to SMASH, then Hulk is your guy.
#2 MR. FANTASTIC
[YT]_p1Ph80O2fc[/YT]
Reed has always been my least favorite of the Fantastic Four, and judging by his (lack of) popularity in Marvel Heroes, I dont think Im alone there. That said, Reed is one of the games most surprisingly fun characters to play, if for no other reason than Gazillion did a fantastic (I know, I know) job of execution with his stretchy powers. Reed really feels like hes jumped right off the comic book page as he inflates himself into a ball and violently bounces onto enemies, rolls around like a wheel, and hammers his foes with a dizzying onslaught of stretchy fists.
#1 WAR MACHINE
[YT]Vqt7nxfrydk[/YT]
War Machine represents Gazillion game design at its best. Its clear to anyone who has played War Machine, that this was a labor of love for the folks at Gaz. The fantasy is executed on perfectly, delivering the continuous cacophony of bullets and explosions one would expect from Rhodeys suit built explicitly for war. Youll never find yourself bored of the visual or aural experience of playing War Machine. Whether its the satisfying thunk heard every time you fire Hammer of War (Ex-Wife for you Iron Man 2 fans) or the truly Murican display of military might that is War Machines signature ability, Army of One, the excitement is never-ending.
There are also a couple of ways to play War Machine that do a great job highlighting the versatility of Rhodeys suit. Some are currently more viable than others, but you can do anything from leap into the fray and tear guys asunder with your wicked laser sword, to the more typical hail of bullets experience, or even something in between.
BONUS: Dr. Doom
For those of you out there who equate fun with being overpowered, Ive got something for you, too. If youre just starting out in Marvel Heroes and going through the roster looking for the most powerful character in the game, youre likely to go, Duh! Its Doom! As it would turn out, youd be right.
One of Marvels most powerful characters is fittingly just as powerful in-game. This is mostly a result of his crazy kit combined with the games overpowered summoner gear, but its true, Doom is an absolute beast in Marvel Heroes. If you want to surround yourself with an army of doombots and lay waste to the worthless cretins you encounter, Doom is your guy. Doom also talks smack like no one else in the game, which is reason enough to play him. The constant smack talking to both allies and enemies alike often has me in stitches.

Chapter 10: Secret Invasion
Ive long been critical of Gazillion dedicating developer time and resources to new story chapter content and Chapter 10 hasnt really done anything to change my feelings there. Dont get me wrong, I enjoyed it immensely, but it took me only about half an hour or so to complete. I imagine these chapters are a massive undertaking, and I feel the resources would be better spent elsewhere given how quickly we plow through the content. That aside, the new locations are pretty awesome and its always great to see something new in the game. Fighting Skrull versions of heroes was enjoyable and you can even acquire the Skrull version costumes for your own characters.
The chapter also adds a new patrol zone in Hightown Patrol, though a cosmic version of the area isnt yet available, and its unclear if one is even on deck. There are some really great new items that drop in Hightown Patrol, so youll want to finish Chapter 10 so that you can get to farming up the new loot!

Leaderboards
Theres not a whole lot to discuss about leaderboards right now, but the update did introduce the framework of the feature to the game. Currently, you can compare yourself against other players along Achievement and Progression tracks, but as far as I can tell there arent currently any rewards or events surrounding either of these tracks. Im looking forward to seeing how Gazillion capitalizes on this feature in the future.

Black Cat & Deadpool 52 Rework
Black Cat, the final hero of Advance Pack 2, recently made her debut alongside the also late (and final) 52 review for Deadpool. Better late than never, both reworks delivered on Gazillions focus on quality. Black Cat is an enjoyable, but straightforward character, though I admit Im a bit underwhelmed with her trap build. Its strong, but not as interesting as Id hoped. Deadpool is an absolute blast, though. The reworked Deadpool accurately reflects the craziness we expect from the character. Deadpool looks like hes having fun as he goes nuts with all of his new moves. Deadpools handstand while using Bang Bang, riding around on a little pink moped, and even shooting Hulk Hand arrows at goons all capture the zaniness of the character. If youve been itching for something less serious, you should definitely give the Merc With a Mouth another look.
![]()
Agent Venom Team-Up
He may not be the strongest Team-Up out there, but I really enjoy rolling with Agent Venom. I usually prefer to run Team-Ups in passive mode, but I actually like Agent Venom so much that I run him actively. His voice is a little odd, but I love the way he combines the symbiotes abilities with conventional weaponry. One of his moves has him fire all his weapons at once, each held by a set of symbiote tendrils, and I get a huge kick out of it every time it goes off.
![]()
Controller Support
I cant believe it, but Gazillion actually pulled it off. When I first heard that Gaz was working on adding controller support to the game I had a hard time wrapping my mind around how it would work. Surprisingly, its pretty intuitive! It does take a bit getting used to and I still prefer playing with mouse and keyboard, but if you want that on the couch experience out of Marvel Heroes and the PC controls put you off in the past, I would encourage you to boot the game up and give it a go with your controller. Menus are still a bit of a hassle to navigate, but powers and other interactions work great.
![]()
Visual Updates
Gazillion is committed to at least bringing the games launch characters into the modern era with some spruced up new looks for older costumes. Its going to be an ongoing process, but we got a taste of it with the first slate of visual updates in the rebrand, introducing updated costumes for Jean Grey, Captain America, and a surprise update for Black Widow. Gazillions got a world class art team (special shout out to TheDink!) and it really shows in these visual updates.
Im looking forward to seeing which costumes Gazillion updates next, but Im crossing my fingers for 90s Storm and Cyclops, Symbiote Spider-Man for us Ultimate Pack folk, and Black Widows Avengers Movie costume. I can already hear all the Emma Frost people going, Oh, hell no!

Green Goblin was my pick in the original fan poll for the next Marvel Heroes character and even though he lost out on the poll, I was delighted to learn hed made the shortlist for this years Advance Pack. What I did not expect is that wed be getting the Goblin so soon! Indeed, Green Goblin will be the first newly announced character to be released in 2016, and hes sure to bring his trademark madness to the game when he makes his debut next month.
We were recently treated to a brief preview of the Goblins skillset and its hitting all the right notes for me so far. One tree will focus on some of the Goblins more basic tools, such as his Razor Bats and Goblin Blast, while another highlights his endless Bag o Tricks, featuring a bevy of different bombs, both well known and obscure. Goblins third and final tree focuses on all things Goblin Glider: were talking everything from machine guns and flame spitters to protruding blades. Honestly, I couldnt be more excited. Goblins alternate costume was also revealed to be his Marvel Knights suit, which is an excellent choice.
Omega Update![]()
The Omega system was an excellent idea with a not-so-excellent implementation. Alternate advancement is great for giving players a long-term goal, but the system and the acquisition of points just werent balanced. Omegas often gate players from participating in some of the later endgame content, and the current layout didnt offer much reason to leverage the many different nodes to achieve any sense of build diversity. That all changes (hopefully) in March as Gazillion seeks to revamp the entire system.
The most important issue, the speed of Omega point acquisition, will be addressed by curving the experience needed to earn points. Simply put, players will earn Omega points faster early on, while later points will require more experience. This will allow newer players to get up to speed with usable Omega builds sooner, while still preserving the long term goal aspect that is core to the system. These changes will apply retroactively, so you may log in after the update with more Omega points available than you had previously. Its important to note that the total experience required to hit 7500 points will remain the same, however. Oh, and the cap is being raised from 7500 to 10000, so theres that as well!
Archangel, Emma Frost, Ghost Rider, and Cosmic Hightown![]()
Its been an agonizingly long wait, but Archangel (at least in team up form) will finally be coming to Marvel Heroes. Im both excited and dreading his release. On the one hand, Ill finally get to have the character in some form in Marvel Heroes. On the other, hell be a constant reminder of how fun he would be as a playable character. Unfortunately, the latest newsletter has what appears to be a Beast hint in it, so Hank may have won out over at Gaz for the final spot of Advance Pack 3. Theres always next year, I suppose! Seriously guys, it better be next year!
Ghost Rider and Emma Frost will also be receiving a QOL update of sorts next month. We were treated to a small preview of Emma's changes, but details on Ghost Rider's tweaks haven't appeared just yet. The Emma folks have been waiting a long time for both a visual update and QOL tweaks, so hopefully they get both. Ghost Rider has been underwhelming for a long time now, so any changes should be appreciated. For me, though? I want to hear about some sort of Magneto update. The Master of Magnetism has really been left behind and is in some desperate need of attention.
Oh, and were also getting a Cosmic version of Hightown Patrol. I was wondering if that was in the cards. Good to know!

Daredevil
Season 2 of Netflixs Daredevil TV series is set for release on March 18 and Ryolnir teased some plans on Gazs side for that event. Could we see some Daredevil tweaks? Maybe Gaz acquired the rights to the series costume(s)? Or how about a surprise Elektra release? Who knows, but hopefully we find out soon!

Marvel's line of games are getting a powerful upgrade. Announced via Entertainment Weekly, March 3 will mark the beginning of Marvel's"Women of Power" event. The new initiative will see the debut of new characters and content in all mobile, console, handheld and PC games.
“Across our portfolio, we’re going to launch over a dozen new female characters in all of our different games as well as the in game story events,” said Bill Rosemann, Creative Director of Marvel Games, to EW.
"LEGO Marvel's Avengers" will see Moonstone, Captain Marvel and Poundcakes added to thegame. On the mobile front, Ms. Marvel, She-Hulk, X-23 will appear in "Marvel Contest of Champions" and Proxima Midnight will join the cast of "Marvel Future Fight." Silk and other Spider women will appear in "Spider-Man Unlimited" and Rescue will be added to the roster of "Marvel Heroes 2016." More female heroes will be added "Avengers Academy" and Marvel "Puzzle Quest" will add "Women of Power" variants to its gameplay.
Sana Amanat, Marvel's Director of Content and Character Development said that the "Women of Power" initiative came about as a way to highlight characters that the audience might not be familiar with.
“We’re trying to find unique ways to do that in a way that is more about showcasing and celebrating these characters more than anything else,” said Amanat. “For us, we’ve been doing the 'Women of Marvel' variants for quite some time. So this time we thought we’d put a little spin on it with 'Women of Power.'
“There is very much the idea here that a lot of these characters can transcend their current roles,” added Amanat. “For me, I’m kind of looking at the possibilities that exist and I know that it’s just a matter of time before it starts going into our other divisions. But we also want to make sure that we are cultivating a mission for the growth of these characters in a way that’s realistic and authentic, and it’s really more about having the Marvel universe expand and grow, and educating our fans and new audiences about the treasure chest of characters that exist that they might not traditionally know of as we do start expanding them in different areas.”
The event will coincide with the "Women of Power" Marvel Comics variant cover initiative, which includes 25 covers featuring Marvel's female heroes.

Permalink | 3 CommentsLet’s kick things off with a look at his three skill trees.
MADMAN
Madman is probably the least interesting of Green Goblin’s three trees. This is where you’ll find his basic attack, Razor Bats, which I really wish had a specialization option to make it a spender (maybe with an added bleed?). It’s just too iconic to be retired at max level. Goblin Sparks, one of his ranged spirit spender options, may be comic accurate, but doesn’t do a whole lot for me. Aside from that, Madman is where you’ll find key passives, his flight mode, and his signature, Carpet Bomb. Carpet Bomb is already one of my favorite signatures in the game, as it fully captures the Green Goblin fantasy of flying around chaotically tossing Pumpkin Bombs all over the place.
BAG OF TRICKS![]()
This is where things really get interesting. Green Goblin’s theme of chaos isn’t just for flavor, it’s all throughout his kit, and Bag of Tricks probably emphasizes this more than any of his other trees. Every single power in this tree is an area of effect power. If you just want to blow up the world, this is your tree. He’s got Pumpkin Bombs, Gas Bombs, Hallucinogen Bombs (confuse), Ghost Bombs, and most amusing of all, a swarm of Sonic Toads. Yes, you can unleash something like nine explosive Sonic Toads at your enemies (with the right specialization). I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention the mother of all bombs, The Big One, which as you might imagine, is a giant Pumpkin Bomb you can toss at your enemies.
Basically, this build tree screams awesome for Cosmic Danger Room.
GLIDER WEAPONS![]()
Not only does Green Goblin offer players a wholly satisfying ranged area build option, but he also brings a full movement build to bear with his array of glider abilities. You’re always moving in a Glider Weapons spec. In fact, the tree’s main spender, Goblin Gunner, comes with some new tech that allows you to strafe while firing. The execution right now is perhaps a bit clunky, but I have to say I appreciate the novelty.
Aside from that, the Glider Weapons tree brings lasers, rockets, and a couple of AOE glider-based moves, such as Remote Controlled Dive and Wing Clip. One of my favorite skills in the tree is Nitrous Boost. This supercharges the engines of your glider, allowing you to zoom around the map (stack this with his flight power for some hilarious results) and torch your enemies with your exhaust. You can even use this to detonate the DoT applied by Gas Bomb.
![]()
Overall, I’m plenty happy with the way Green Goblin is turning out, but the one thing I hope to see improved over the next few builds are the specializations on his anti-requisite abilities, particularly OsCorp Laser.
For example, Serrated Blades for OsCorp Laser adds a bleed to Goblin’s dash power. This is pretty neat and lets you use items like Sabretooth’s Furry Mane. Unfortunately, to pick it, you need to do so over something like Ultra Wing Clip (larger AOE radius and damage, adds a cooldown), a much more practical choice for movement builds, and Nitrous Boost, which is more fun than anything else to me. I don’t feel either the bleed or the boost are compelling enough options to be much of a choice at the moment. These options could stand to be improved upon or replaced entirely and their effects added to default versions of their respective powers. Perhaps I’m missing something, but that’s what jumps out at me for the moment.
Have you tried out Green Goblin on TC yet? Share some of your build theorycrafting with us in the comments below!

COMIC BOOK RESOURCESTo celebrate the second season of Marvel's "Daredevil" on Netflix March 18 and the return of"Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D" to ABC's Tuesday night schedule tonight, CBR News has learned that five of Marvel's current video games will be getting new characters, costumes and even adventures over the coming months.
RELATED: "Avengers Academy" Enrolls Players In Marvel's Superhero Campus
The action-oriented adventure game "Marvel: Future Fight" will get uniforms for Elektra and Punisher inspired by "Daredevil" this month, while the action-packed RPG "Marvel Heroes 2016"will add TV-inspired outfits as alternate costumes for Daredevil, Punisher and Elektra. Elektra will also be added as a playable character later this month complete with the option to use her comic book costume. Meanwhile, the connect-3 combative puzzler "Marvel Puzzle Quest" will add Quake -- AKA Daisy Johnson, AKA Skye -- from "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." as a playable character, while the fighting game "Marvel: Contest of Champions" will have an in-game event with actressChloe Bennet, who plays the character on TV, as well as a Daredevil/Defenders crystal timed event. As if that weren't enough, later this year the cartoony action game "LEGO Marvel's Avengers" will release an add-on inspired by "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D."
To explain the ins and outs of the new additions, CBR News spoke with Bill Rosemann, Marvel Games' Creative Director, about what goes into coordinating an event like this, and what it all means for Marvel-loving gamers.
CBR News: We've spoken before about how Marvel Games will reach out to the developers of the games when there's a new movie or event in the comics and see if they want to do something fun with the corresponding characters. I'm curious, do the people who work on the movies, or in this case the TV shows, have any say in what the game people do?
The TV take on Daredevil" in "Marvel's Contest of Champions"
Bill Rosemann: The people on the TV side always have approval. There's a whole system of checks and balances. Once a game studio decides they want to do something, we reach out to our friends on the TV side for reference materials, and explain what the game people want to do. The game developers then take these materials -- which can including photographs or scripts or footage from the set -- and use them to make the in-game items, with us at Marvel Games working with them to make sure it's all right. Once we think it's done, we then take it to the TV group for approval.
"Daredevil" is a decidedly more adult show than "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." Some Marvel Games, such as "Marvel Avengers Academy," are for younger audiences. In cases like this, do you guys tell the "Academy" people that no, they can't have the TV Daredevil, or do you say to them, "We don't think TV Daredevil works for your game but if you can think of a way to make it work..."?
That's a decision that we make internally at Marvel Games. It's part of our whole, "With great power comes great responsibility" agreement that we have with everyone we work with. It's why the "Daredevil" stuff is happening in "Marvel: Future Fight," "Marvel Heroes 2016," and "Marvel: Contest of Champions," because the people playing those games are older, while the "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." context is coming to "Marvel Puzzle Quest" and "LEGO Marvel's Avengers," which skew younger.
In "Marvel: Future Fight" and "Marvel Heroes 2016," you're just adding costumes inspired by the "Daredevil" show, not those specific versions of the characters. Why the distinction?
Well, some of the games have these characters already, and there's established stories in the games for these characters, so it wouldn't make any sense to add what happens in the Netflix show to what's already happened in the game. That's why it makes sense to just add the costume from the show.
As for the costumes being "inspired" by the show, that's because the games all have their own art styles, and so they do their version of the costumes. They copy the costumes as closely as possible, but they also put their own spin on them.
Speaking of the reference materials, if the costume is inspired by a comic, you can just hand them a copy of the comic. But if it's based on a costume from a TV show, can they visit the set and look at the real costume, maybe even as it's being worn by the actor?
It all comes down to logistics. "Marvel: Contest of Champions" is made by a team in Vancouver, while "Marvel: Future Fight" is made in Korea. So it's not always feasible for them to go to the set. It's also a matter of timing. We sometimes start work on this stuff before the show even starts filming, when they just have the costume designed but haven't started shooting yet.
"Marvel Puzzle Quest" is adding Quake as a playable character, but unlike the costumes we just talked about, the game character is inspired by the comics as well as the show. Why is she a mix?
"Agents of SHIELD's" Quake in "Marvel Puzzle Quest"
When adding a new character, our game studios have access to everything: the comics, the movies, and the TV shows. But we allow the game developers to do what's best for their game. In the case of "Marvel Puzzle Quest," its had a history of being closely tied to the comics. So it made sense for them to not just look at Quake as she appears on "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.," but also how she's appeared in such comics as "Secret Warriors" and various "Avengers" comics.
Speaking of Quake, the actress who portrays her on "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.," Chloe Bennet, is doing an in-game event in "Marvel: Contest of Champions." What can you tell us about that?
It's like what we did previously with Clark Gregg [who plays Agent Coulson]. She'll recruit a team of heroes and villains, and players will have the opportunity to have their team battle her team in the game. But she, like Clark, won't be playing as if she was Quake, she'll be playing as herself.
And does she have to have Quake on her team?
I don't know. I wouldn't think so. I would imagine that they'd give her latitude in choosing who she wants.
Lastly, what can you tell us about the "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D" add-on for "LEGO Marvel’sAvengers"?
All I can say is that later in the year there will be DLC pack that will include both characters and content from "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." We'll reveal more information later, but I think you can image what that might mean.
"Marvel Heroes 2016" is out now on PC and Mac; "Marvel: Future Fight" and "Marvel: Contest of Champions" are out now for iOS and Android; "Marvel Puzzle Quest" is out now for Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, iOS, Android, and PC; "LEGO Marvel's Avengers" is out now for Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, WiiU, 3DS, and PC.Discuss this story in CBR's Games forum. | 9 CommentsTAGS: marvel games, daredevil (tv), agents of shield, bill rosemann, marvel comics, elektra, punisher, marvel future fight, marvel heroes 2016, marvel puzzle quest, chloe bennet, marvel contest of champions, lego marvel's avengers, daredevil, shield

Inside MARVEL HEROES 2016's Newest Playable Characters -- And Who's Next

Goblin, cats, and ninjas, oh my!
The videoMarvel Heroes 2016 recently added Iron Fist, Black Cat, and the Green Goblin as playable characters. Two of these had previously appeare din the game as first level (read: easy) bosses, but Iron Fist has been a long-desired character from the community but may be hard for that community to handle.game
Newsarama had the chance to play with the new characters and see how they stack up with the rest of the roster. Marvel Heroes 2016 Lead Designer Ryan Collins spoke with us, going through both the recently-added characters as well as whos to come in the popular game series.
But first evaluating the new characters. How did we do it? Here are our rules: play each character only to Level 15, so not to get too committed to one character, plus time constraints. Its also pretty much the right point where the characters have gained enough powers so you can start customizing how you want to play them.
Black Cat
Ms. Felicia Hardy is the first boss ofand easily taken out. You meet her in, what else, a bank vault and proves to be not the greatest of challenges. Black Cats fighting mechanics are on par with Daredevil, but Collins compares her more to X-23.the game
For Felicia, some people were really surprised by her because shes not the A-lister that some people might not have expected or this X or Y popular character, Collins said. So I saw an opportunity to do something a little different, a character that most people know, but a bit of a curveball. We got the chance to do a trap-based character and theres not a lot of those in the game. She came out of a discussion where we were talking about what characters could have a fun and unique playstyle and I also really wanted to do something from the Spider-Man universe.
Her first level attacks are Cats Claws, Land on Your Feet, Explosive Trap, and Quick, with Level 2 unlocking Cmere Kitty, a grappling hook attack which draws your enemies closer. Black Cat also has a passive defense mechanism called Nine Lives. Its a backup plan for when youre defeated. If you have enough of these, you gain an extra life so you can get out of your current situation and returned to life with 9% of your current Hit Points. That might not seem like a whole lot, but paired with Quick Getaway, its enough time to back away and regroup for a hot second. Nine Lives is quite handy during the Midtown Patrol mission.Getaway
Black Cat plays similar to a Rogue class in Dungeons & Dragons, or how Daredevil was in the first Marvel Ultimate Alliance. Her Land on Your Feet attack is a good example of that. That attack is very vital, allowing her to dodge and perform a radial attack with her whip that can wipe out lesser goons pretty easily. Sticking with that attack will do you serious good in the end. Quick Getaway activates Felicias stealth mode for a few seconds that allow for a, you guessed it, quick getaway. Each level of that only goes up by a 0.1 seconds when you level it up, but sometimes thats all you need to slip out of a bad time. Also, when shes in stealth mode, she has special abilities you can hit that do tremendous damage, but you have to get Quick Getaway to a certain level when you even have time to nail one. Its tricky, but completely doable.![]()

Black Cat is fast -- super-fast. Her attack speed and movement start off already pretty stellar. Add that to faster attacks such as the Whip Crack, which is a more concentrated attack than Land on Your Feet, and takes out enemies efficiently. The big problem with Black Cat is that she doesnt have a lot of passive abilities that add to her defense. She primarily requires really good armor to back her up in case of tight spots. She actually doesnt get her first passive ability, Cat Suit, until Level 22. Though it comes later in the game, but Bad Luck at Level 12 is an excellent booster for her. You can toggle it on or off and it uses Felicias probability manipulation powers. It increases your dodge, critical hit, and damage rating, giving you that extra oompfwhen youre whipping the taste out of Hydra goons mouths.
I think she has a good flow, which I think is very important to her, Collins mentioned. As much as she uses her whips and traps, I wanted Felicia to have this responsiveness and feel that you get with her agility. Shes not flipping off everybodys heads so fast, but youre able to get in, get out and get moving.
Explosive Traps or Gas Traps are clumsier and arent as direct because their range was lacking and werent as fast as her whip attacks. They did do heavy damage though, but Black Cat has a solid formula of hit, hit, hit, flip, hit, repeat. She levels up the fastest out of the three, getting to Level 15 barely before the end of Act 1, whereas Goblin took what seemed like forever.![]()

Black Cat is the easiest to build and straightforward to customize. If speed is your thing, give her a try, but try to avoid gang ups early on until you can equip some decent armor.
Green Goblin![]()

Next up is the Green Goblin, Marvel Heroes 2016s 56th playable character. Eagle-eyedwill remember Green Goblin as the final boss of The Raft level and hes easily taken out. Youd think the former leader of the Dark Avengers would be a harder target, but hes easily dismissed and forgotten. So how does he take as a character? Not too bad, but still a few tweaks might be taken into consideration.players
Goblin was interesting because we were thinking about who is the most iconic Spider-Man villain we can do, besides Venom, Collins said. I would say Venom is number one and Green Goblin is number two. Thats nothing about the movies or comics, but more in terms of branding. How many times are you at a convention and see a Venom-symbol shirt or hoodie? I think I personally own at least three.
Collings points out that the Green Goblin has helped the heroes before with Dark Avengers and the Thunderbolts, but the character has never fully made the switch to anything resembling a hero.
Hes beat up villains so I thought he was a jumping off point, said Collins. Not to mention his playstyle is so much fun.
Speaking of playstyle, when you first play Green Goblin you might notice that his movement speed is tremendously slow starting out. Hes on his glider the entire time, so going at the heart-racing speed of three seems counter-intuitive. Now, you do get something called the Nitrous Boost later and it speeds you along, torching your enemies as you glide past them, but it drains your Spirit at an astounding rate starting off. Your first attacks are your Razor Bats, Pumpkin Bomb, Impaling Boost, and Goblin Gunner. Its a solid set to start with all of them having a good range for attack so not a lot of melee weaponry.
That being said, once you hit Level 11 and attain the Glide movement the character becomes more natural. Youre able to glide around (as the name implies) dropping bombs on fools without losing any Spirit. Also, your speed improves as well and it just feels so much fun and should be an instant slot in your arsenal.
We tried to put in Glide earlier, and it could probably stand to be put in even earlier than we wanted, Collins noted. Once youre at 60, youre super-fast, being able to do some crazy stuff.
Whats interesting is the ability to combine attacks with the Goblin. Take for example if you detonate a Gas Pumpkin, you can let it sit and do its poison damage or you can light the aura of smoke with Nitrous Boost, which does additional fire damage to all the goons in the surrounding area. It plays into the fun fact that Osborn is a chemist, so of course hes going to have some powers you could combine. Not too many characters have that sort of characteristic in the game. You can build Goblin up in three different categories: Madman, Bag of Tricks, and Glider.
all of the traits are trademark goblin through and through. The different types of pumpkin bombs and how you can use your glider as a weapon is great. The “wing clip” maneuver is one of the better moves. It’s a radial attack that packs a lot of damage and isn’t as unfocused as the “goblin gunner.” now, while the “goblin gunner” works just fine when you’re going after a group of enemies or are focused on a boss, but the wing clip is more versatile in how you can execute it and good for those tight situations of being surrounded.
“i was very excited on how he turned out. I think we’ll do some tweaks post-launch,” collins confirmed. “i mean none of our characters are ever done. Ever.”
iron fist![]()

iron fist came out in late december, but he warrants a conversation now because he’s such a deep character for a player to master. Collins has some advice for those who want to try iron fist starting out.
“i wish we had a difficulty on characters in terms of how easy it is to play them and build them in-game, because i would put him as ‘hard’.”
iron fist is probably the most difficult character that players will come across because there’s so much customization that can be done; honestly, its borderline exhausting on deciding how you want to play him.
he comes with several martial arts styles, each with their own buffs and passive elements. There’s crane, leopard, dragon, tiger, champion of k’un-lun,![]()

and serpent. You can switch between styles at any moment, which transforms danny’s animations. In the time allotted, newsarama only managed to get to tiger, but leopard is incredibly useful. Iron fist is somewhat similar to moon knight where he doesn’t really come into his own until the much higher levels. The “chi-burst” attack, which you get at the beginning, is the perfect sort of attack for this kind of character. Though later replacing his k’un-lun strike basic attack with the fury of five forces that you get at level 10 is a better strategy.
doubling down on collin’s thoughts, iron fist is not made for beginner. He’s definitely made for a more knowledgeable player with deep game mechanics, and even though he’s 98% melee attacks, he isn’t just your ordinary fighter.![]()

“when you’re able to get up there and get to your customizations, and get more carte blanche with some things because he has all these modifiers on how you can do these attacks.” iron fist actually has a lower number of attacks with 16, when usually most characters come with 20. However, due to his stances, each attack has different
reactions. “i would say that post-launch, he’s gotten the most number of changes only because we wanted him to be complex and not just another brawler. He’s not for everybody, much like punisher isn’t for everybody, but there are types of players that he’s perfect for. In this late in the game though, he’s a character we had lots of fun with.”
upcoming characters
collins also spoke about the upcoming wave of characters that are going to be added in this year: Nick fury, beast, black bolt, elektra and angela.
“with elektra, you can kind of get a sense of the scale we’re doing in terms of characters who are totally human. Now, she did have some mystical powers for a bit, but for the most part she’s on the human part of the scale.” collins mentioned players won’t see as many “area of effects” (aoes) but more single target effects. “her powers are going to be more melee centric.”
when collins got around to talking about black bolt, he mentioned the scale of how powerful he is in the game.
“black bolt is obviously going to be a fun one to do, what with his power set. Although i will say if you’ve read any of the recent uncanny inhumans stuff they actually portray his powers has having visual beams and such.”
collins mentioned he’ll have some really powerful aoes that will allow players to destroy thugs really quickly, but he doesn’t have a lot of trademark abilities that focus on one person.
“he’ll still be good at that, but we try to keep these characters in the same band of powers.”
switching gears to fury, collins mentioned there’s going to be some old-school spy tactics in his arsenal.
“with nick fury you’re going to see some s.h.i.e.l.d. Summoning, some l.m.d. Action, some of his crazy gadgets like jetpacks, the needle gun, all the goodness from the classic steranko days, as well as some newertech
and weaponry. Probably some movie-inspired stuff as well because how could we not?”
angela was the character collins seemed the most excited about.
“talk about keeping up with current comics, right? Growing up reading 90’s comics, i don’t think this is something i ever expected. She’s just awesome. She has the two blades, but she won’t be like elektra, all stealthy, but more warrior-like. We really haven’t gotten to do anybody in this style just yet.”
with beast, collins said that he’s one of his favorites so far and he’s so versatile with offensive and defensive attacks.
“i’m so excited for him! He’s going to be very bombastic as you’d expect i’m sure he’ll go crazy on people, but his designs are on paper right now so we’re figuring what mechanics we can do with him right now, but his designs aren’t as locked down as others.”
collins mentioned that while he was going over the voice recording of the character that beast’s costumes each have him looking different.
“he definitely doesn’t have the squirrel girl problem where he has only a few costumes.”
speaking of costumes, collins described the costuming decisions for marvel heroes 2016 is a multi-tiered one.
“we have a system where we look at our art director and producer and i look at a list of the characters who haven’t had a new costume in a while, who has the fewest, who has the most popular. So we look at that list and we pick out a certain amount every quarter. It’s important for us that the fans get these choices, no matter how poorly or greatly they sell. Then we decide which characters and have a meeting and argue and discuss who gets prioritized. Is there something we can tie into, so we go to marvel and ask what they think, so it’s a collaborative process that goes through many stages.”
as for what other characters collins would like to see in marvel heroes 2016 as it nears the triple digits, he has a few suggestions for his bosses.
“i would love to do agent venom. We just did him as a team up and had such a great fan reaction. He brings just a lot of great visuals to the table, so i would love to do him. I would love to do wasp, i think she would be awesome. With this year, we’re finishing up the original x-men line-up so i think sometime it would be great if we could finish up the original avengers line-up. I would also like to do gamora. I think those would be my three picks just based on who i would love to see as a fan and what the game needs as a fan. What we’re going to do, is a completely different discussion.”
Eternity Splinters: You’re likely already familiar with these, but just in case, Eternity Splinters will drop periodically from defeated mobs and collecting enough of them will allow you to unlock new heroes and Team--Ups for your roster. Unless you have a specific hero or Team-Up in mind, it’s best to spend Eternity Splinters on random hero boxes until your roster is more populated. You’re likely to luck out and unlock a bunch of more expensive characters with fewer Splinters used this way.

Odin Marks: This is one currency we did cover in our level 60 guide, but just to recap, Odin Marks are earned from Legendary Quests and can be spent on a Legendary item for your character, to enchant an Uru Forged item, or to bless your Artifacts. Generally speaking, you’ll want to stick to Blessings of Hela for your Artifacts.
The most commonly used Uru Enchants are God of Mischief and The Power Doop for hybrid or physical damage dealers. Marvel Heroes’ barter economy also relies heavily on trading blessed Artifacts, so acquiring Odin Marks regularly will be fairly important throughout your Marvel Heroes play.
