Mass Effect 2

I'm just quoting this so you know the reply is toward you, mostly.

I'm a BioWare fan through and through. Luckily for me, I'm not one of the really whiny BioWare fans who bemoan their existence and literally every change BioWare makes to a game. Also luckily for me, BioWare does not cater toward that brand of fans.

Considering I grew up playing JRPGs, usually powergaming my way through them, I can say I certainly do enjoy all the RPG elements there involved - as Corp puts it, RPG minutiae. And I'm a huge fan of ME1 and all its wonderful little flaws. But let's face facts: the inventory was horrid, lack of variety in terms of weapons/armor for teammates was a drawback, combat was slow and lumpy, you could usually use an individual skill only once per encounter, and level 60 was pretty meaningless and overkill.

So these are the things BioWare addressed for the sequel, done so in such a way that, really, the only people *****ing about it were/are the fans who bemoan any change BioWare might make. ME2 combat is amped up and faster, as you stated yourself, and this primarily stems from the significantly-reduced power times. To that effect, the game and its characters don't need as many skills/powers, which makes for more definitive classes, especially with the introduction of (more) class-specific powers (Charge, Cloak, etc.).

So you picked the Vindicator up late in the mission. So you had to fight off a wave or two of enemies with it. It -is- an obscenely powerful weapon, so how this is a drawback is beyond me. And are you really limited by a smaller number of squadmember skills, or does it just seem that way? Miranda can fire off multiple high-strength Overloads or Warps per encounter at even an early level. What would Kaidan be throwing around in early levels of ME1?

That ME2 was so well-received should speak volumes that the improvements made were actual improvements. This doesn't even need to be considered, however, being that the improvements make the play of the game so much more smooth.

You made good points re: ME2, and I'm willing to play the game so more to see if I'll grow accustomed to those changes. I do admit that the inventory system in ME1 was a mess, and it took me a long time to sort through which items to sell or keep. But I wish there was a compromise between the two systems, and instead Bioware threw the baby out with the bathwater. As for the new ammo system, I still don't like it, but I'm using this as an opportunity to use more weapons and not overly-reliant on AR (which is my favorite weapon). I do wish we can increase the ammo capacity, though.

You can get pieces of armor that increase ammo capacity. But, really, the weapons as is have as much ammo as they really need to have.

But if you're really worried or bummed, take heed: When you get the option, pick the Revenant.

Thanks, I'll look up Mass Effect Wiki to check out the stat on Revenant. :yay:

I suspect Arrival to be released in anywhere from 2-4 months. I'm just really happy that Bioware came through this time around on their promise of post-release DLC. I wonder if we're going to see any content set after the end of ME3.
theres more DLC on the way? I thought they were done with that

El Bastardo: Hurrmmm, well, you see, they're using the DLC as basically Mass Effect 2.5, bridging the gap between ME 2 and ME 3. (exasperated sigh) Haven't I been saying this for forever now? I feel like I've been saying this for forever now. Get a clue, people. Rassumfrassumphilistines...

Is there? Aren't they shutting down the Cerberus Network after this next one?

To clarify, since my shadow did not get it quite right, DLC as of Lair of the Shadow Broker to release of ME3 was being used as Mass Effect 2.5, to bridge the gap.

Get it right, Corp. Rassumfrassumphilistine...

I know, Corp. You might try and try and try, but it's so hard to be as awesome as me.

:D

Minus the addition of any word after it, the two are interchangeable there. If I had "am" at the end, then yes.

Shall we begin Round 3 with a game of questions?

The "am" is implied either way because a direct comparison takes subjective forms. "He is bigger than me" results in a subject/object discrepancy. It's "he is bigger than I," "we are as smart as they," "hard (for you) to be as awesome as I." Granted, it's a bit hard to notice in the last example because the objective and subjective forms of "you" are both just "you."

They said they're going to temporarily start it back up the week before the DLC and then two weeks before ME3 if I remember correctly.

You're supposed to ask a question. That's how you PLAY a game of questions, you silly nincompoop. I win.

(Also, that it is implied does not affect the formulation of speech or methodology of construction. While you are correct in technical diagram, it's rather a case of flow, and minus the "am" it's the "me" that flows best, especially in relation to the [implied, as you so righteously identified] second-person "you," primarily for wont of a hard consonent. You can't ****block the jive, brother.)

ME2 is quite challenging thus far. I was doing the mission to recruit Jack last night when I died more than 5 times in the final battle because I was trying to destroy the three power grids that shield the slave trader, and because I destroyed the middle and the left grids first when I tried to get the last grid, I was hit by both the trader and his reinforcements from both sides. I finally succeed by destroying the right grid first. I'm playing on Veteran (just like I was in ME1), and ME2 is definitely a bit harder to handle than the first game.

Btw, I discovered how to scan the planets and send the probes in to mine the materials for the upgrades, but I only have 9 probes to start. Is there a way to replenish the probe inventory, or is there another way to collect the materials?

The fuel depots in every system with a Mass relay sells fuel + probes. Later you'll get a upgrade to increase your probe capacity to something like 60 if I remember correctly.

Ah, so that's what those fuel depots are for. I wish they'd explain it a little better since it's a new feature that wasn't present in ME1.

Fuel depots are also for buying fuel, which you need to make the Normandy go vroom vroom around the systems.

Trains go chugga chug. The Normandy is not a train.

Technically, it's probably more a frrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr sound. But I like vroom vroom, dammit.

moves to slow outside of systems... trains follow up their chugga chug with a woo woo! The Normandy just kind of puts around in deep space... or whatever. Hence the chugga chug.

Perhaps I should have used Pffft Pffft Rrrrrr.

I need to buy fuel for Nomandy? Why can't the Illusive Man pay for it? Sheesh.

Btw, who do you guys usually pick as the teammates for Shepard? In ME1, since I was playing the Soldier I like to have Tali (for tech) and Liara (for biotic) in my team, but in ME2 with the limited abilities each character has, I haven't been able to figure out who to bring in each mission. I still have a few more to add to my team, and hopefully I'll figure this out eventually.

I was not a fan of the fuel setup in ME 2. It wasn't bad or extremely constricting or anything, but the finite supply of money to buy the fuel made me worry about fuel consumption, effectively stifling my urge to explore. I only visited systems I knew I had to go to and would just mine all the planets right then so I would never have to go back and burn more fuel. I think they could keep the probes but do away with the fuel for ME 3.

Ugh, you're one of those descriptive types, huh? "It flows better in conversation." Rules are rules, sucka! :cmad:
