Mass Effect 3 - Part 1

Exactly. Why does there have to be a reason? They're a thing that exists, and one would assume they've only become more commonplace and acceptable by the time ME's era rolls around.

Could have something to do with the repealing of Don't Ask Don't Tell. If there were same-sex relationships in ME of ME2, then it could have created a problem with the US gov't, because Shepard comes off as an American or being of American descent. Now that that's gone, it doesn't really matter. And by the time of ME, sexuality shouldn't be an issue, especially because of the Asari.

Wow, that is mind-bogglingly ridiculous. Shepard may come off like an American, but the Alliance is not the US military. It's an apples and oranges comparison.

... Which probably means you're right, someone out there would've complained about it on that basis. :o

My 360 HDD wiped itself clean somehow and I'd still rather play through ME1 than pay 320 MS points for that, lol.

Good for those who don't though.

Eeeeeexcellent. I'm gonna have to start a new ME 2 playthrough with that sometime.

Yeah... just setting here I'm thinking to myself "Do you really want to make a "perfect" ME1 run... AGAIN!?"

No.. I don't, really.

*sigh*

I always tell myself I should play through ME a few more times to get a good set of options set up for ME 2 and ME 3... and then I remember the driving sequences, the elevator rides, the sheer length of a full playthrough, etc. I got a job and graduate school, man. I just don't have that kind of time to re-play games anymore.

I want to play it just to play it, but I already set up my "perfect" ME playthrough into 2.

Oh I had my perfect Shep set up... then my stupid 360 froze and somehow every save on my HDD vanished.

It was my first real "nerd rage" I think...

I've got a couple of saves ready to import. One is all the way Paragon with a destroyed Collector Base. The other is a full on Renegade with a saved Collector Base.

I'm sure it is though FemShep, if I'm not mistaken, still had the option to be all :wow: when Liara hit on her in ME1 over the f/f dynamic.

My "intended" playthrough is a paragon male Shep who'll probably romance Liara, knowing what I know now about ME 2 and where ME 3 is going. But I didn't know all of this back when I played ME for the first time and ended up with a morally gray Shep who banged Ashley. :csad:

I wonder if Liara will have a little blue baby sometime during ME3.. since... you know ;)

I figured Fox News would have been in an uproar about it if it were in the first games.
"American military character can chose to romance male companion. Video-game company set to destroy American values?" Considering how ignorant they are of the entire situation and video games in general, I would have seen this being the focus rather than the "M game has hardcore sex scene" bs.

Eh, I myself think its goofy that video game companies now have to worry about appeasing everyone in regards to "video game relationships" that, in their own right can seem extremely silly.

I've already been called a homophobe elsewhere for not thinking this is AMAZING but seriously... I could careless. You can have your Shep be gay now if you want! ...Big whoop.

I don't care how a person wants to play the game... but just don't "force" it in there. I thought the whole Anders thing came out of the blue when he starts telling you about how he was hoping for a man like you, ect... and again, I was called a homophobe for finding that odd.

It's not a "homophobic" thing with me, again... I don't care if someone wants to play that way... but I have a feeling it's going to now be a focal point of the game, which... IMHO it shouldn't be.

As for Fox News... I get that I'm one of the few people on this forum that leans to the right but for cryin' out loud, I only seen them talk about ONE video game... the first Mass Effect.

Unless you count the BulletStorm write up, but that game was fairly trashy (good, but intentionally over the top with kills and swearing) so yeah... I don't think kids should play that either.

Before Fox News labled Mass Effect a "porn sim" or whatever, Democratic Senator Joe Lieberman and First Lady Hillary Clinton labeled Mortal Kombat a murder sim. Video games will always get dragged through the dirt... from both sides, Right and Left.

I found the Anders thing weird too. It's just out of the blue. He was already a companion in Awakenings, and there was no mention of his sexual preference at all. I had already planned for him to be the romance, but I remember thinking "I've just met him and he already says he wants to sleep with me... Isn't this a little early?"
You're not a homophobe, Benstamania, you just don't care. It won't affect how you'll play, so it's really not that big a deal to you. If the romance is forced, then I'll have a big problem with it. I felt like what bioware did with Zevran was how they should deal with this kind of stuff. There was a natural progression that led to it, not like with Anders and it just being brought up the first second you meet him.

What's a "perfect" Shepard? Is that when you have everyone survive the suicide mission in ME2?

I think a "perfect" Shepard depends on you. I mean... My Shep was fairly straight forward Paragon in ME1. He did it by the books and even took crap from the Council (first time I ever did that, lol) I also level capped and had a crap ton of money to import over.

My ME2 Shep was more of a "do it his way" kind of guy. I had it in my mind that my Shep was done "doing it by the books" because it didn't get him any more respect in return. I pretty much had the paragon meter maxed BUT I didn't do everything the paragon way. I pushed the merc out of the window because he wasn't giving me answers, I shot the gas tank under the Krogan because I didn't want to listen to his speech, punched Zaeed in the face (that's Paragon... but still) ect.

Getting the "perfect" Shep to import over to 3 all depends on you I think.

Shouldn't you be watching Glenn Beck or something?

Kidding.

I haven't seen anyone that thinks it's "AMAZING" or fawning over how awesome it is or whatever. It's just something that's kind of overdue and a welcome addition to the series.

I mean same sex relationships aren't exactly new to Mass Effect. Femsheps were able to get it on with other women in Mass Effect 1 and 2. I'm sure some would argue, "Actually! The Asari are a monogendered race that blah blah blah..." Come on. They're blue space babes.

The fact is that by including lesbians, but not gay dudes, they're just reinforcing the double standard that this...

...is OMG! SOOO HOT! :wow::awesome:

And this...

...is UNACCEPTABLE!! DISGUSTING!! :cmad::barf:

Having said that, I don't think Bioware ever meant it that way. I'm pretty sure Kaiden was supposed to be romanceable by male Shepards as well at some point. Now...did they remove it because they weren't satisfied with the writing or dialogue or whatever, or were they scared of some kind of backlash? Doesn't matter. I'm just glad that they're able to rectify this oversight with in the third game.

As for Anders. It was a bit strange, yes. But getting hit on by a dude is the last thing I would pick to pick to complain about in Dragon Age II. :funny:

Even if my Shepard was gay he wouldn't romance Kaiden.

Soap... Don't get me started on Glenn Beck. I know you're kidding and whatnot but man, the amount of so called "right wingers" that flock to that dope disgusts even me.

I'll be honest I DID watch his show in the early days when he kept his rants on politics, and politics alone. It was nothing I tivo'd or made sure I was home to catch but if he was on and I was making supper I'd let it on. Keep in mind when I say "early days" I mean early CNN really early Fox News...

He started to believe his own hype though and I swear he now views himself as some Mormon Savior to the World.

In short... He's crazy.

Anywho... I didn't mean to go on a Glenn Beck rant there, lol. Back to Mass Effect.
