EA is teasing a new project from Bioware, starting with an image and a teaser that the game will be announced at the 2010 VGA that will be showing december 11th. http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/17/bioware-revealing-new-project-at-vgas-on-december-11/

Update: The sharp eyes of commenter Arth Vader picked up that the gun in the pic is either the M-29 Incisor Sniper Rifle from the Mass Effect 2 Aegis Pack DLC or a reused asset. If it is the M-29, it would imply the game will be Mass Effect related.

Update 2: Recall that EA said last February that something "far-reaching" was coming to Mass Effect during the fourth quarter of the publisher's current fiscal year -- or in layman's terms: January 1 – March 31, 2011.

Update 3: Okay, now things are just getting nerdy. BioWare blasted out the adjacent QR code on Twitter which, when decoded, spits out a string of 1s and 0s. When you convert this binary code (we told you: nerdy), it reads: 55.845. Of course, as everyone knows, 55.845 is the atomic mass of iron. Maybe the presence of the word "mass" in our findings isn't quite enough to go on, but we're sure you'll agree that the presence of the word "mass" coupled with a piece of fan fiction titled Mass Effect: Iron Rebirth is practically a smoking M-29 Incisor Sniper Rifle.

Update 4: And another QR code has been loosed upon the unsuspecting people of Twitter. This one is again some binary that translates into: 128.5°F. Converted to Celsius, that becomes -89.16666666666667°C. "The coldest temperature ever recorded on earth is -89.2 degrees Celsius (-128.5 degrees Fahrenheit) at Vostok, Antarctica on July 21, 1983," says Wikipedia; and this Mass Effect wiki page describes the Vostok solar system as "a medium system with four planets and an asteroid belt," itself named after the Soviet "Vostok Program" that resulted in the first manned space flight. Oh, and that asteroid belt that was mentioned? The wiki page calls it a "metal-rich asteroid." You know what else is metal? That's right, iron!

I'm intrigued by this, it's leaning towards to a Mass Effect related game, perhaps more of a action tone to it.

I'd only play a ME MMO if it was on the 360 (lol) and free (double lol). ME would fit better as a Republic Commando/Battlefield like FPS.

It could be both, but if it's an MMO it won't be on the 360... most of the ME fanbase is on the 360.

Having a ME game NOT on the 360 seems kind of dumb to me...

I thought he meant a ME fps and a ME MMO... not necessarily a MEFPSMMO...

A Guild Wars system would work well on consoles.
Aside from no subscription fee it generally allows for better narrative than the copy paste MMO's that are all over the place. It also does away with alot of the crap people hate in MMO's.

What exactly is the "Guild Wars system"? I've asked other people what makes that game so special, but I've never been given a great answer. My impression of the game, which is admittedly based on very little, is that its structure is more or less like that of Phantasy Star Online, except fantasy.

It's sort of hard to explain. It's kind of like Diablo. Instead of a "massive" world with zones it uses hubs that encompass the many players. Outside the hub it's just you and your party. Because it's built like this, it can use scripted events and specific story sequences like a single player game. You can also fast travel between opened up hubs instead of using a stone thing with a cool down or jumping on a budgy for a 10 -15 minute ride.

The game is capped at level 20. Instead of "he who has the best gear" or "he who has the highest level" It uses a sets of (8) skill cards which are selected in the hub and cannot be changed once you leave. With the ability to use two classes at once. It's really simple and accessible but can have hundreds of combinations. You can get better items but it's minor, not massive stat buffs.

The game also has a proper story with a start, middle, beginning and an ending. Although the story telling is absolute gash, it is proper story-telling with cutscenes and characters than clicking people on head withal floaty thing for a tiny bit of text.

A couple of MMO's I have played have a few of these elements, like Lord Of The Rings Online, which I quite enjoyed. But it's nowhere near as tight as Guild Wars.

Aside that, it's really bloody good game.

And the funny part is, this conversation can go on with endless speculation and fan ****-worshipping, and yet when TOR comes out, half of the participants of this conversation will start yelling about how bad BioWare sucks at making MMOs, and meanwhile will have been ranting about how bad ME3 sucks and BioWare ruined the frachise and oh-by-the-way the sky is falling.

I don't want an ME MMO. But an FPS would be cool, maybe.

It seems like an interesting take on the genre, and I would like to try it, but at this point I'll probably just wait for the second one.

Why don't you just play TOR? It seems to be very solo friendly.

When's that out? It's been delayed forever.

I don't think it's ever had an actual release date.

F*** TOR, I want my KOTOR 3. :argh:

Dude, wounds reopening here. :csad:

They're going to be releasing a book later in the year written by the lead writer of KoTOR and Mass Effect 1 that's going to cover what happened to Revan, the Exile and that whole cast of characters after the end of KoTOR 2.

http://www.starwars.com/vault/books/revan/index.html

It pretty much is the final nail in the pipe dream of a KoTOR 3 ever being released but at this point I'd take anything over nothing.

A.) It's an MMO and I don't have time for MMO's.

B.) I don't feel like paying a subscription for a game I won't have much time to play.

C.) I don't game on the PC.
