Mass Effect 3 - Part 1

I wonder if Bioware will implement something similar to that Black Emporium mirror in DA2 that let's you change your appearance at any time in the game.

that would be cool and a god-send to us nuts who love to fiddle with our character's appearance and get every detail just right.

Anything would be better than constantly restarting the game because you hit a weird angle in a cutscene that suddenly transforms your awesome Shep into Sloth from the Goonies.

I'm not the only one that does this??

I did this all the time, especially with Dragon Age Origins, until I found the settings I really liked.

I did this with ME and ME2, as well, before I discovered the magic of face codes in ME2. Once I found a face code online that I really liked, I was able to use that as a good template to make some minor tweaks here and there.

ME2 was especially annoying, though, since you couldn't skip the long-a** intro scene!!! Yeah, it's cool watching it the 1st few times. After about the 50th time...............

Yeah, that intro made restarting a pain in the ass. But what was even worse is I had to restart a few times after I had arrived at Omega because different parts of Shepard's head were clipping through the awesome visor you buy there. :cmad::cmad::cmad:

Oh god... I did that all the time with DAO and ME1. Either the neck wasn't right, the nose was suddenly too big, from another angle I noticed how slim the face suddenly looked. Took always a while till I was happy.

Yeah, I've done this too. Lots of times in ME2 when experimenting with looks, because what you see in the character creation screen is a hell of a lot different from how Shepard suddenly looks in the pearly white Cerberus station when talking with Jacob.

DA2 because all my female Hawkes seemed to somhow exhibit fat-jowly-cheek syndrome in any dialogue scene.

DAO, not so much, but I got really, really good at character creation in that game. So it wasn't angry restarts so much as modeling a face, loading into game, finding a wall I could use as a close camera boundary to take some screenshots, and then exiting out to see where I needed to improve. Then repeat to the final version.

yeah, count me in the camp of obsessive character creator who restarts the game hundreds of times to get every little detail right.........:oldrazz:

The face code system in ME2 helped tremendously, but that da** unskippable intro was annoying as ****. :cmad:

Hopefully, we can skip cutscenes in ME3 ( we could in DAO and DA2 ).

And, I would like a Black Emporium Mirror type interface that will let us reconstruct our Shepards whenever we want in game.

Ive restarted the game probably around 10 times trying to get my Shep to look right. It takes so damn long to on the PS3 bc it has that interactive comic which extends the intro even longer.

how long do you think the Collector's Edition will be available for preorder at retailers like Gamestop?

I know the CE was announced last week. typically, how long do these offers last?

if I went down to Gamestop this weekend, do you think the CE will still be available?

I'm 100% sure it would still be available this weekend. In my experience, there are almost always plenty to go around. Even on release day.

well, I didn't take any chances. Preordered the 360 CE yesterday at Gamestop.

I missed out on the DAO and ME2 CEs.............

I ordered it today from the website. You don't really get charged until it arrives.

Well, I actually do remember that ME2's CE stopped being available for pre-order like a month or something before release. You should be okay to order before that point I would think, though. If you're worried about it, personally I'd just go ahead and pre-order. Not like you lose anything by doing so early.

thanks! yeah I'll definitely preorder the CE by this weekend.

I guess I'm just trying to decide what platform to order it on. I'm wondering if there will be any major graphical difference between the PS3 and 360 versions.

When you read the online comparisons, the 360 version of games are usually said to have a slight edge in graphics.

Plus, there's the whole thing where 360 games say they support 1080p on the back of the box, while the PS3 versions say they support 720p ( this also shows up on my TV's display when I run the games ). This issue has always confused me. I mean, is there really that much of a difference?

I kind of like the PS3 more cuz the machine is quieter when playing games and online is free. And I want to build up my PS3 collection. I just don't want to feel "shortchanged" on the graphical quality of the game..........

There won't be much difference, there rarely is. The whole 720p/1080p thing, I believe, is that the 360 games are generally upscaled, and PS3 games generally are not. So, for the most part, there's not that huge a different. And really, unless you're playing on a large scale TV (like 50"+ or something), you probably won't notice much a difference between native 720p and native 1080p

Which system did you play ME2 on? That's the one you should get ME3 for.

@Codename Sailor V
thanks. I play on a 40" 1080p hdtv. So, there shouldn't be much of a difference?

@Soapy
I actually have ME2 on both systems..........lol

That's my general understanding, yes. I have a smaller TV myself, so I can't say that in 100% assurance or anything, but I've always heard the difference is negligible unless you're playing on a huge screen. You might want to look up info yourself, though, or inquiry about it over in the High-Def thread in the misc. movies board (those guys really know their stuff about that subject).

hey thanks! I'll ask this in the High-Def thread.

My CE is pre-ordered and locked. Free release day shipping for me, for me.

from what's been said and shown so far, is the power/skill system going to be the same as ME2?

That is, are the powers/skills for each class going to be set in stone? or, will we have the option now to choose which powers/skills we want?

In ME2, each class had a "signature" power/skill. Adepts got Singularity, Vanguards Charge, etc. But, the rest of the powers/skills were already set for that class.

For example, Vanguards couldn't use a Biotic power like Warp but were stuck with Pull and Shockwave.

In ME3, it would be nice if we could choose our own powers/skills ( appropriate to our class, of course ) instead of being restricted to a preset list.

So, for Vanguards, we would have the signature Charge. But, after that, we could choose from all Adept and Soldiers powers/skills ( since Vanguard is an Adept/Soldier hybrid ). So, if I wanted my Vanguard to have Warp, I could choose that instead of being forced to use Pull or Shockwave........

It would be cool if that's how it was, but I'm pretty sure it works the same way as the previous games. They probably can't let you do that for balance reasons.

Though you can evolve your powers more than once in different directions in ME3. Also, I'm pretty sure each class gets a second "signature" ability as well.
