Mass Effect 3 - - - Part 12

I don't know what to tell you guys. I was fine with how things turned out. I want some closure... That is all. I feel I got pretty much every thing else I wanted out of the game.

I'm curious Benstamania, what are your thoughts about the ghost kid? The Crucible? The RGB ending? That your decisions meant nothing? The lies prior to release?

I'm not trying to change your mind, I'm genuinely curious what your opinions are on the stuff that most people find fault with.

I already said... None of that bothers me. I'm not sure what people really mean about decisions and how they they meant nothing. I feel a lot of my decisions I made though the series got answers.

Could everything have turned out better? Surw, I guess...But in the end I don't care. It was a great ride and I fully suspect Shepard to return in part 4.

I guess it's just my general "not care" attitude. Let's go back to the football game... I'm OK with a big drive that ends in a field goal as long as my team wins in the end. I feel ME as A whole is a big win.

A majority of decisions ended up adding or detracting to an arbitrary number. There were a handful of moments I appreciated but overall I'm ambivalent.

Pretty funny article from Gamefront about the recent Hudson/Walters interview:

Heh, I was delighted to hear them admit that the endings were up to the player's imagination mostly.

I'm finally getting into the 1st Mass Effect and it is amazing. How much better are ME2 & 3?

IMO, both games are superior to ME1. With the exception of ME3's ending.

The gameplay greatly improves, the dialogue & acting improves & the story just gets bigger & bigger.

ME2 is a lot more streamlined. You have less room for exploration but the shooting is way better and it still retains that cinematic quality from the first game.

ME3 streamlines things even further but the gameplay is the best in the series and the cinematic presentation is still there. The only downside is dialogue is a lot less interactive but eh, first time through is a pretty solid experience since everything is fresh.

In terms of gameplay 2 and especially 3 are significantly better. Story-wise a lot of people argue that Mass Effect 2 lacks the "epic" feel that 1 and 3 have, but I think 2 has the overall best story and by far the best characterization.

IMO it goes:

ME2
ME1
ME3

And, even if the ending wasn't a complete letdown in ME3, I'd still be hard pressed to put it ahead of ME1. It's still a great game for 99% of it, and it has some truly epic moments and more great characters, but after I played through it initially I started to notice the cookie-cutter missions throughout and some of the lazy corner cutting stood out a lot more.

ME2 is basically the complete package IMO: amazing characters, immersive worlds (including hub worlds), great (but admittedly not perfect) combat, great story, reflective choices and dialogue options...easily the best of the series.

As good as ME2 is the first game definitely had a better, more focused narrative. I'll always remember it fondly because, big spoilers up ahead,

Saren, Sovereign and Shepard finding out what the Conduit is at the same time was f**king awesome. Then having to race to stop them... so good. Then to discover the Citadel in ruins hahah.

I also wish they just kept the Mako for main mission sections coz it was cool having to drive from a hub to another location to do some missions but meh, I can't think of how they could have designed ME2 missions in that way so I don't hold it against them.

They could've just used the Firewalker! That thing was just AWESOME!!!11

Well this is exactly what I want to hear as I love the dialogue/acting in this game already. I'm not always one to listen to every inane thing side characters have to say but I find it all interesting and well spoken here. The gameplay is also fun for a 2007 RPG but I can see a lot of room for improvement. Looking forward to that also.

I don't know how much of a role the Turians play and should probably try and remain unspoiled, but they are bloody awesome so far!

Cool thanks.

How is the multiplayer and are there any talks of a Mass Effect 4 or is 3 definitely the end of it?

I agree with this and have said as much many times. Shepard has become an iconic character of modern gaming on par with Master Chief, Nate Drake and Kratos. No way that EA is going to allow BW to throw that out the window, no matter how much BW may like to. This isn't like Dragon Age where the Warden had no real identity. Shepard has transcended the franchise and become an icon. I firmly believe that he will be the star of ME4.

Just basic rumblings from the designers and what not but that has more or less halted since the negative reception to the ME3 ending. ME4 will happen, but probably not until the next generation.

Suits me. And it could be a great way to boost the start of the next gen.

Btw how was the reaction by the guys here to the ME3 ending? Also mainly negative?

I wouldn't mind if Shepard doesn't return. Since you had the freedom to change his appearance, gender and how he acted. I'm fine with any other new badass they introduce that I can shape to my liken.

I hope the current Shepard doesn't return for any future ME installments. I know he/she has a "default" look that has become kind of iconic, but I'd be totally disappointed if they just dug him up and brought him back for another ME game. It'd kinda cheapen the whole thing if you ask me.

And, that'd just be another Bioware lie since they said ME3 would be "Shepard's conclusion" or whatever, which surprises me that you'd be okay with it Matt TBH since you are really adamant about being against Bioware's lies and BS.

Good article. This particular blurb sums up my view well:

Intriguing stuff to be sure, but here’s the problem: the main complaints about the ending weren’t the lack of closure, the inability to see what happened to your characters, or even some of the more maddening plot holes. They have to do with the fact that the primary feature of the Mass Effect series has always been choice. It’s so critical that the official website’s blurb still says “EXPERIENCE THE BEGINNING, MIDDLE, AND END OF AN EMOTIONAL STORY UNLIKE ANY OTHER, WHERE THE DECISIONS YOU MAKE COMPLETELY SHAPE YOUR EXPERIENCE AND OUTCOME.” And the endings of Mass Effect 3 are aesthetically indistinct and functionally almost identical. (Adding to this, no one was upset because Shepard died; they were upset because no matter what you did, he died. In other words, the outcome was the same.) This, and not the fact that we have no idea whether or not Liara had Shep babies, is the issue.

Didn't say that I am okay with it, just that I expect it to happen. The BW producers may have said that this is the end of Shepard's story and they seem to believe it, but I don't think that EA will let Shepard or all these memorable characters like Garrus and Tali be done just yet. BW may try to fight EA on it claiming their "artistic integrity," and their desire to build the universe, but frankly, something tells me that the ME3 ending, the response that has resulted in EA having to give away free DLC and all that fun stuff will make EA laugh Hudson and his artistic integrity right out of the building while they go the safe route.

Like I said, I'm not necessarily cool with it (just kind of impartial, if it is Shepard great, if not...that is fine too as long as they are interesting) but it is what I see happening.
