Mass Effect 3 - Part 2

I downloaded it, but haven't played it. I will soon though, since I recently started my second playthrough of ME1.

On the Mass Effect 2 Facebook Page:

"It’s going to be a happy new year! Mass Effect 3 will have a pre-release demo in January 2012. The demo will have both single player and multiplayer sections, giving fans a taste of what’s to come on 3/6/12."

As if I weren't excited enough already :D

I'll probably skip the singleplayer stuff but I'll definitely give the multiplayer a whirl.

Yeah, no single player but I actually hope they give us an "extended" MP beta if you will...

Any class can carry any weapon. The mods available to each weapon type are where they really become differentiated. The SMG is really important now for classes that rely heavily on power gameplay or where heat sink capacity becomes a problem. In fact two mods are available now for SMGs that increase their ability to fire longer and run out of heat sinks less. Every class can carry 5 weapons, BUT there is a really big penalty to doing so if you are playing anything but a Soldier. Generally in my Adept runs I like to take a Tempest and a Carnifex. I leave the bigger guns to Garrus, James and Ashley. In fact I have done entire Adept runs with just a Predator. The balance around the number, type and specific weapons you take is really feeling nice and adding a lot of interesting choice to weapon selection. More to come later. Jarrett had me do an entire BioWare TV episode just on RPG mechanics, which is coming out soon.

I'm so glad that they removed weapon restrictions. Now my Femshep can be a Vanguard again.

All you need is good eyesight and a pistol.

Wait, people play Vanguards with sniper rifles? Genius. :whatever:

From the Bioware forums in reference to Multiplayer:

I already got the magazine. Here you go:

- You can only carry 2 guns at the same time. No matter what class

- MAX. level: 20

- "Skill trees" like in the single player

- Only 3 powers at the same time are usable

- no ring menu. To change your gun you'lL have to hold the reload button

- passive powers ("durability" for extra health or "fitness" for more melee damage)

- different movement for each race (human: side role; drell: "ninja jump")

- krogan ability: krogan charge. Like Grunt in ME2.

- two maps were played: "slums" and "NOVERIA"

- three difficulties (Bronce, Silver and Gold)

- main and side missions

- side missions with time limits (defusing bombs or hacking computers)

- If a squad mate goes down, you can revive him/her.

- You can gain XP and credits by kills, assists, objectives etc.

- No PvP mode is planned. Reason: "For a believable story it would make no sense." - Casey Hudson

- the thirs person sight is still is progress (If you play a krogan, he takes the whole screen)

- Co-op is only optional. The "perfect" ending is possible too, if you play only single player

- "War-Assets" are troops, characters and ressources from every race that gives you support

- With gained credits you can buy new weapons or upgrades

- social games are planned for ME3 to ingrease your "readiness-level" (Facebook, Google+...)

- Also Apps for smartphones and tablets will give you a possibility to ingrease your "readiness-level"

That about all I could get out of this article. Please apologize for some misspelling.

Well, that's fine and all, but since I love playing the Soldier class, what's in it for them now that everyone (even Adept) can use all the weapons? They better give this class new incentives to play, otherwise I may just change my class after playing it in both ME games.

It says right in the paragraph that there's a penalty for carrying five weapons for any class that isn't Soldier. A big penalty, actually. Perhaps lesser penalties for four or three weapons, depending on class?

Soldier has powers. Soldier has more guns. That would seem to be the incentive to play Soldier, same as it has been in any of the games.

I played through Pinnacle Station to get the achievements and promptly deleted it with no intention of ever redownloading it.

Been thinking about doing this.

It's the only actual DLC, aside from all the skins packs, that I don't own for an ME game.

I guess I'll have to see what the penalty is, and maybe it won't be harsh enough to discourage players from carrying five weapons anyhow.

Pew. Pew. I could see having a problem against Scions, maybe, but the final boss?

Silly.

All I needed was a pistol and a shotgun (in addition to biotic powers). I never cared for sniper rifle in Mass Effect.

But I definitely want the Cain back!

In my first playthrough of ME1, the pistol was the only weapon I ever used.

Just picked up Battlefield 3 with the nice surprise bonus (well, I'd forgotten about it, so a half surprise) of the ME 3 beta pass.
