So... Here is the final on my second learning-to-use-my-tablet pieces.

This is my take on Tetsuo, from the BADASS anime classic, 'Akira'. (If you haven't seen it... Well, you must).

Anyway, here it is:

Like I said, this is my second tablet-piece so if you have thoughts on techniques with a tablet, or just the look of the piece in general, I'd LOVE to hear them.

Thanks!

So this is the 3rd tablet-heavy piece I've done.

I think I'm really starting to get the hang of it. Also, I'm starting to play around with overlaying textures and stuff.

Anyway, it's based off the characters of 'The Maxx'. It depicts the Maxx killing an isz while Mr. Gone lurks in the background...

I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Preface: So this is a near-late entry because I got 75% of the way done and then MERGED ALL THE LAYERS AND SAVED and had to go back to a file I had on my flash drive that was only about 40% done. Not to mention, Photoshop and my computer are totally f-ed and crash non-stop... In short, I have components for a new comp in route to my apt as I type this... This entry is the picture that killed my current PC. Having said that...

I decided to go a little out there with the theme, since I've done a lot of Batman stuff in the past. My idea was, what if Harleen Quinzel, the future Harley Quinn, existed in the 'TDK' universe as an unhinged little girl how was obsessed with the psychotic, murderous Joker she saw on the news...

It was just kinda a fun what-if idea I had, so I tried to have fun with it and add little details and stuff.

Anyway, here it is:

Hope you like it... I'd love to hear thoughts!

Here's my entry for the Aug 08 'Steampunk' contest...

Reading the theme, my mind went straight to robots and that made me think of Bender from 'Futurama'. Choosing to include Leela clinched it for me as my idea for the theme, and it was a lot of fun. Anyway, here's my entry:

Steampunk_Futurama.jpg

I tired to throw in a few *****ie futurama references, some really obvious... others, not so much:

1) In the background you can see the planet express ship.

2) The blimp in the background is broadcasting a live feed of 'Everybody Loves Hypnotoad'

3) Fry's chest does say 'Fry' in alien language 1.

4) In Fry's breast pocket is his lucky four-leaf clover.

5) Fry is drinking Slurm.

6) Bender is referenced as Bending Unit 22.

7) Too small to tell, but Serial number by the bar-code on bender is the serial number referenced by Bender in the Flexo episode.

8) Finally... The characters in bender's mouth make up a hexadecimal encoding of the phase 'bite my a$$', an abbreviation of 'bite my shiny metal a$$' a phrase that wouldn't fit, due to size limitations.

Anyway, let me know what you think!

Finally finished the pic I've been working on for the last wee or so, since there isn't going to be a September contest... Or an August voting thread... Or a July voting thread.

I got a request on another forum to do another Ivy picture, and for a while now I've wanted to do a big group picture of DC Villainesses beating up on DC Heroines.

In addition, I was trying to work more with depth and more complicated poses in this picture, as I often just do straight on shots.

I'd love to hear thoughts.

This picture took a LOOOOONNNNNGGGGG time.

I decided to force myself to do a picture with a lot of figures, clothes, hair, fur, etc. to get some tablet experience...

After thinking about what might fit the bill, I came up with the idea of doing a Wonderland picture.

I was in search of more experience with my tablet, and boy did I get it. At a certain point I kinda gave up for a few months.

Anyway, it is done. DONE! Here's the final...

I'd love to hear thoughts, if you get the chance

I have been volunteering hardcore for my candidate of choice, and have been REALLY stress of late.

The result: I decided to do a really fun cartoon-y piece to decompress. I decided to do a pic, of Michelangelo... Who is, indecently, my LEAST favorite turtle, but I'm REALLY fried right now and wasn't up to tackling the more complex characterizations of the others.

Action poses are not traditionally my strong suit, so I appreciate comments on the pose.

Anyway, hope you like it!

I was really exhausted after volunteering endlessly for Obama here in Ohio leading up to the recent election, and as such my nerves were a little frayed. As a result, I took the passing of Prop 8, the California gay marriage ban, pretty hard. It's very VERY hard for me to not take news like that personally, and it's really hard sometimes to avoid internalizing what feels a lot like an attack. I think there was a lot to feel great about (from my perspective, of course... I realize that McCain supporters have a point of view too) but the 2008 election was bitter-sweet... mostly sweet.

Anyway, I just wanted to work on a quick picture of something that is PURE FUN... 100% positive...

I've recently become re-obsessed with all things Jim Henson Co. because they have a podcast I read about in Entertainment Weekly and I must say... Not every episode interests me, but in general... Worth your time.

So in looking for a positive subject I decided to go with the Muppets, and when it comes to the Muppets you gotta go with Animal! Anyway, here's the final:

Hope you like it! ;)

I LOVE this one

This new thread of yours has caused me to look through all of your work again. I can't even believe how much better your work is since you started posting work here, bud. It's incredible.

Thanks! I kinda know what you mean. In putting the new thread together I was forced to look back too. There's a lot of junk there, but an art teacher once told me to save everything, so I decided to keep everything in the new thread because I was mostly proud of all it, at the time.

I hope in a year or two, I look back at the stuff I'm doing now and roll my eyes. :whatever:

...and i'm still waiting for glenda!!!

Well, Spidey... You have finally motivated me to do the 'Galinda/Glinda' companion piece to my Elphaba picture.

For those of you who don't know, Elphaba is name given to the Wicked Witch of the West in Gregory Maguire's book 'Wicked'. As a side note, it's a really great book that twists the traditional 'Oz' storyline and mixes in a lot deeper themes like racism, and the politics of fear.

The book was adapted into a musical starring Kristen Chenoweth (Olive Snook, from 'Pushing Daisies) as Galinda, so I kinda tried for a loose likeness...

As for the hair, I just thought it would look funny cause I'm going for an over-the-top beauty-pageant-esque fake sweetness. Here's the sketch so far...

galinda_01.jpg

Obviously, more work needs to be done on the sketch before digital painting can start, but I'm hitting the hay, so I thought I'd post what I have so far.

More work on my Glinda picture... This time I added the arms, and a grumpy munchkin... anyone... anyone?

galinda_02.jpg

More later.

All your stuff is awesome but i really like the Harley, Futurama and Alice one.

Hey dude, congrats to you and your work electioneering (I'm guessing that you're an Obama supporter and you mentioned that you'd been politicking it up): what an amazing result!! i'm excited and i've never even been to America! (YET!!)

Anyway wanted to say: yeah, your new thread with all you work on view like this: wicked!! your improvement has been and continues to be phenomenal.

I like Michelangelo a lot! But you were asking for feedback on the dynamic action pose aspect... I think it looks quite static. You could get more energy and movement into it if you think about the nunchaku rope, the tassles on his belt and the ends of his mask, and had them all flowing in the same direction opposite to the angle he's moving in. At the moment, the mask ends are kind of floating as if he's reached the top of his jump, whilst the nunchaku rope and the ends of his belt are just hanging down as if he were stationary on the ground. know what i mean? anyway, textures and colours are sublime. hmmm... makes me want to give my own take on the turtles!!

awesome  (I need a synonym for awesome)

Thanks!

Well, those are all more recent, so that's really nice to hear!

Thanks... That was actually very helpful. I guess reading that, it makes perfect sense, but I really didn't consider it when I was doing the mikey picture... and btw, I want to see your taking on the turtles!

More on my Glinda, pic...

I was pretty unhappy with my munchkin before... I was going for annoyed munchkin, but I think he looked more like a really old, possibly sick, little person. Plus, in general, I think he was too small in comparison to Glinda.

Anyway, I did a retake. He looks a bit younger, but I still didn't want he to look like a little kid. Also, I changed up his clothes to be a bit more over the top, because that and the hair are kind the hallmarks of 'munchkin'...

galinda_03.jpg

Anyway, getting close to adding color.

Update on Glinda...

I painted her curly afro, and added her mouth, and made some more updates to her face. Her bangs are just drawn in place holders for the time being... the will be painted in later...

galinda_5.jpg

More later.

Some work on the mouth, and bangs... Still a lot to do with the hair.

galinda_6.jpg

more, eventually.
