I would be very surprised at this point if they didn't lure him back for one final film.

I don't know. I think it was really telling that he only signed on for Avengers 2 and 3

Any speculation as to how much interaction there will be between the Netflix series, AoS, Agent Carter and the movies?

I don't see any SHIELD involvement in the Netflix series.

If anything, I expect there will be name-dropping on the Netflix series, but not much else.

The more I think about it, the more I'm convinced that Marvel should split Avengers 3 into 2 movies. I just don't think after all the buildup that Thanos will receive, he will be defeated in just one movies, especially with the Infinite Gauntlet. And right now all the studios have been trying to stretch one book into 3 movies or one movie into two. Splitting A3 into part 1 and 2 will be a great way to finish up this amazing run. What do you think?

I'm for it but Whedon hates doing that.

At this rate we don't know what Avengers 3 will be and we assume its going to be this big movie.

Maybe that's the key to getting RDJ in for the fourth movie. He really wanted to do the real Mandarin story. Or maybe they'll use it for another movie (Avengers 3) or for the Netflix shows. There are so many possibilities when you think about it

Where did you hear that? He seemed all for the actual IM3 version.

Some thoughts after All Hail The King:

The Mandarin could actually have a dragon/dragonic alien as his WMD. The rings could have some kind of actual powers, too. Make him a villain, but set up Thanos as someone the Mandarin is trying to outwit. Maybe to prove his greatness as a warrior king, or something similar. At the same time, the Mandarin needs to be someone that Fury and the Avengers would not, under any circumstances, work with.

Give Tony an unheroic death, once Downey Jr gets tired of the role, rather than recast him. If magic comes into play, Dr Strange would be a great character to put in an Iron Man sort of role. A lynchpin for the heroes and the audience.

Yeah, he has (and still) talks about it being one of, if not the best scripts for a superhero movie he's seen and it visibly reinvested his interest in the franchise based on interviews and BTS footage.

Wish there was a movie for Silver Surfer. Would be epic.

If Whedon is looking to Star Wars episode 5 the empire strikes back as his guiding light for AV2, I sure hope he isn't planning to make Thanos like the emperor in Star Wars 6.

What?

Joss has said that "Godfather II" is his guiding light for Age of Ultron. Nowhere did he ever mention anything about Star Wars.

Thanos isn't going to show up until Avengers 3 anyways.

He said that star wars eposide five the empire strikes back as a model to use because he said he wanted that unhappy ending in AV2. All I am saying is I hope he doesn't use thanos in AV3 based off of how the emperor was used in the star wars franchise.

As for The Avengers 2, we’ve already heard reports that death would be a significant theme, as indicated by the mid-credits scene featuring Thanos and his apparent glee at “courting death.” Couple that with Whedon’s admission that the sequel will feature a more personal threat to the Avengers, and it’s looking more and more likely like The Avengers 2 will be The Empire Strikes Back of the series, as far as a more downbeat, darker ending is concerned.

Hopefully, Zoe Saldana isn't the only Black actress to join the MCU.

I too have also never seen him refer to TESB as his guiding light. I have heard him say that Godfather Part II was many times. Never, TESB. In fact, didn't he say he hated the ending to TESB?

I believe he did say that.

In February 2013 at the Jameson Dublin International Film Festival, Whedon said that death would play a theme in the sequel.[39] In March 2013, Whedon said that he looked to The Empire Strikes Back and The Godfather Part II as inspirations.[40] Also in March, Mark Ruffalo, who played the Hulk in The Avengers, tweeted that he will reprise the role in the sequel.[6]

When he refers to death, I hope he's not going to kill off Rhodey as that seems like the Hollywood way to go and I think Joss is better than that.
