Oh yeah, and it's so cool how the MCU officially has two super-teams now with the Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy. Next up is the Defenders and hopefully the Midnight Sons eventually.

Don't forget the likelihood of the Inhumans, as well as the (unpowered) "Secret Warrior"-like team of Agents of SHIELD.

Yup. IMO Midnight Sons is the direction they're almost certainly heading. A nice and clean divide in terms of threats faced and portions of the world (and/or universe and/or dimension) defended by said heroes.

Avengers (Earth): We know how this story goes. Earth's mightiest heroes yada yada yada. Loki attempts to invade, Ultron tries to exterminate, Thanos commits universal genocide and so on. (Agents Of SHIELD and Agent Carter probably fit under this umbrella as add-on goodies.)

Guardians (Cosmic): Marvel just blew the doors off its cosmic universe wide open. Guardians sequels... Adam flippin' Warlock et al, Nova Corps spin-offs and everything else is on the table.

Defenders (Street): Netflix actually seems the perfect place to explore the dynamics of superhero/vigilante culture in a street level setting. Bring on Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Cage and Rand for Wave 1. For Wave 2 go with Moon Knight and Punisher series, while continuing Daredevil for a second season while consolidating Luke Cage, Iron Fist and Jessica Jones into Heroes For Hire.

Midnight Sons (Supernatural): From everything we've heard, Marvel Studios is looking to Dr. Strange to begin their explorations into the supernatural side of the universe. Ghost Rider and Blade cannot be far behind. If Marvel is concerned the commercial prospects of those characters, a Blade/Ghost Rider team-up might serve better. Then, a Midnight Sons movie along the lines of Avengers with Dr. Strange, Moon Knight (making the jump from Netflix to the silver screen), Blade, Ghost Rider and maybe other characters like Werewolf By Night, etc. The latter could be previously introduced in the Dr. Strange sequel.

And, of course, the Inhumans, who could possibly bridge the gap between the Earth based stories and cosmic stories while leveraging an Inhumanity-like event to flood the world with supers. Yes, yes... no one said "mutant". :)

'Tis a good time to be a Marvel fan. Long live the MCU. :)

The chances of seeing Bill Foster in the MCU have increased a little bit.

G'day,

Just had a thought. What about an action rom-com with Lady Sif? Having her on Earth would be a fish out of water story, lots of fun possibilities there. Although I don't know what character would be the male lead.

Ah yeah, I see your point there. That could work. Probably the only one that would though?

Netflix could always have a Werewolf by Night TV series. There are so many supernatural TV shows on at the moment that it wouldn't seem out of place and could attract viewers who wouldn't normally watch Marvel. They might not even realise it was a Marvel series at first but just something like Twilight or the recent Dracula series with Jonathan Rhys Meyers which was axed.

Of course, if Marvel had a Spider-Woman TV series (which would be a cross between Angel and Alias), they could have crossovers with Werewolf by Night. since he featured quite a bit in her comic series.

Saw that other article on cinema blend with rdj, good to see him give support to a Hulk sequel

LOL, yea. Even guys like Downey are acting like us fanboys when it comes to be MCU. Really a testament to how immersive and truly awesome Marvel's movies are.

"Yes, all the characters are awesome and movies should be made for all of them. Can we get 20 movies per year, please?" :)

G'day,

Here is a little though experiment.

Would it be possible to assemble an all female Avengers team using only the characters currently released or announced in the MCU? A team of comparable abilities to the mostly male Avengers 1 movie?

Lets see : Armoured Knight- Iron Man / RESCUE Pepper Potts , As a CEO she would have the necessary skills to be the leader

Asgardian Warrior - Thor / Lady Sif

Super Soldier -Captain America/ The Calvary- Melinda May Give her the Asgardian Staff and she would be a match to Steve Rogers.

Skilled Marksman - Hawkeye/ Mockingbird , she's supposed to be pretty good with a gun in the comics and is coming to Agents of SHIELD.

Super Spy- Black Widow /Black Widow but I might replace her with Hawkeye to have a token male.

Muscle- the Hulk - ?? Theres no current female replacement.

Brain Power Tony Stark, Bruce Banner / Jane Foster, Jemma Simmons.

Now you might want to add some unique girls such as the Scarlet Witch and the Wasp (who I think will be appearing in some form in Ant Man) but its a bit underpowered. Captain Marvel and She- Hulk need to be introduced to the MCU

The Avengers aren't about filling roles, they're about being the mightiest heroes. There's no point substituting on a one for one basis. If a team had both Gilgamesh and Hercules on it, I wouldn't have much of a problem (but Thor, Gilgamesh, and Hercules all at once might be overkill).

You can't want an all female Avengers and not have the two most famous female Avengers.

Robert Redford is probably the biggest name they've gotten and one of the last remaining actors of the classic age of cinema.

Now if only they had gotten Kirk Douglas as modern Hank Pym and Michael Douglas as Pym in the 1960s, then they would've had someone really classic. :funny:

It would be quite a catch to get someone like Clint Eastwood, who typically doesn't star in any Hollywood productions these days but only his own produced films. Sean Connery would be another catch.

Sean Connery has been retired from acting since 2003. It's a shame cause he was one of the greatest actors ever and a big favorite of mine.

I'm sure he could come back for something like the MCU. Hasn't he tried to retire before? At least he could go out with a bang and wash away the stench of his last movie, "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen".

I didn't even know. That's a shame.

That's why he retired. He turned down Lord of the Rings and the Matrix because he didn't understand the films. He then felt stupid because they were huge successes. So when someone offered him a role in The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen he said "well, I don't understand this either, but I can't miss this opportunity too." Then the movie came out and it was a colossal failure and he basically said that he was done acting for good.

Marvel is closer to a sure thing, but I can see him not wanting to risk it and to be happy in retirement. Most people don't get Michael Jordan retirements on a high note (hell, Michael Jordan didn't eventually get one of those). A bad movie to finish it off isn't the end of the world and doesn't diminish his career.

The difference with LOTR and Marvel is that once LOTR was cast, they weren't really going to recast since it was all filmed as a trilogy in one go. With Marvel, they're making individual films (which are, of course, connected) so Connery could come in as a new character and fit in.

The other difference between Marvel and LOTR is that, when Connery was first approached (presumably to be Gandalf), there was no way of knowing yet whether LOTR was going to be a success. With Marvel, it has been a very successful brand, and because there are individual films making up the overall universe, Connery isn't ruled out of starring in a future one, unlike the LOTR trilogy.

If he did join the MCU, he would probably be the actor (other than maybe SLJ) who has starred in the most number of successful franchises and has played the most number of iconic or mythical roles (eg Bond, King Arthur, Robin Hood, Indiana Jones, Highlander, etc).

Maybe he could star in a future instalment of The Avengers. :hehe: That would be funny. He might not be too keen though, considering he already starred as the villain in the 1998 Avengers movie about Steed and Mrs Peel.

I think it's all true, I just think he's lost all faith in his ability to determine what will work well (particularly with sci-fi/fantasy). Plus he's 84 years old and might just be happy with a well-deserved retirement.

I don't even know what kind of role Connery could play in a Marvel film. Probably a supporting role like Redford had as I can't think of a character he resembles.

Other actors who should join are Meryl Streep, Denzel Washington, Donald Sutherland, Robert De Niro, Matt Damon, Richard Gere, Naomi Watts to name a few.

This is just for fun. Here's what I like to call youtube poster centperk's AVENGERS TRILOGY. He does good work and is obviously a genre fan. The songs are Cochise, Letters From the Sky and The Humbling River.

Connery wouldn't even do a Bond cameo when asked. No way he does a Marvel film.
