MCU: The Marvel Cinematic Universe Official Discussion - Part 3

How soon? Fox is not going to share the X-Men unless they get the Xmas spirit and decide to share the profits with Marvel. The only reason Sony made the deal is because they're desperate, when Fox gets there, then it will happen, but it could take many years, time will tell I guess.

Fox have been very successful with the X-Men franchise overall so there's very little chance anything will happen there in any foreseeable future. To be honest I'm kind of happy with that as I think the X-Men work better alone than with other Marvel heroes.

When the X-Men are alone the whole mutant struggle becomes so much more powerful. When you have other superheroes at every corner it makes less sense why mutants are the only ones being hunted the way they are. The X-Men are also quite numerous, and it's a popular franchise, so they would likely remove chances for some lesser known characters to get movies.

If Marvel had owned the movie rights to X-Men and Spidey when they started their universe they wouldn't have created the Avengers like they did, which would have been a damn shame. Of course I'm extra happy since I prefer the Avengers to X-Men (not in a landslide, I like both) but the most important thing is that we now have gotten great Avengers-movies, we have gotten great X-Men movies and great Spider-Man movies. Sure, Marvel Studios have been more consistent (and some movies have been horrible, like FF), but we've gotten more great movies than we otherwise would have through studios sharing the rights.

Getting Spider-Man back this way could be the best of both worlds. It might not be but if we get Spidey in MCU movies and he still gets his own that doesn't take up Marvel Studios full time, it will be great.

So now Black Panther's coming AFTER Infinity War: Part 1. Interesting. Captain Marvel coming right after it made a lot of sense to me, since she's supposed to be the "bridge" between the Earthbound MCU and the Cosmic MCU. But BP? Like I said, interesting choice.

Yeah, the only concern I have is that they moved all the movies around but kept Avengers where they are. Captain Marvel is still in between, so that's fine, but Inhumans are pushed to the end (Phase 4 now?) and Black Panther is in between as well. That suggests, at a minimum, that he isn't appearing in part one of Infinity War (or, if he does, the whole thing won't fit as smoothly).

Granted, they're smart people and can figure it out, but it's the only thing in this whole plan that seems poorly thought out.

Anyway, I'm excited. Spider-Man is obviously one of my favorite characters. I wonder if, for Civil War, they can get Norman Osbourne as well. In fact, hold off on making him the Green Goblin for awhile and go with that instead.

I think Inhumans actually might be better off kicking off Phase 4 with a clean slate rather than having to be the bridge between IW1 and IW2. Cap'n Marvel seems a more natural fit in between the IW movies, but that hasn't really changed. BP is going to be a little tricky in terms of structure though.

The BP release date does not mean that the film will shoot in 2017. I think it shoots next year.

Otherwise, why would they cast Chadwick Boseman?
Because he's appearing in Civil War (we learned that at the Phase 3 annoucement event) which starts shooting in a couple months. (or at least, he *WAS* going to be in Civil War, who knows if the Spider-Man situation has changed that)

As for the news.... my views can be found here http://silver-wolf581.tumblr.com/post/110630079516/my-thoughts-on-the-spider-man-in-the-mcu-news

I don't see why it would. They'd be incredibly foolish to toss many months of script work out the window just to shoehorn Spidey in there.

The rumor though is that they had/have two scripts for Civil War (since apparently these negotiations with Sony have been occurring for a while) one involving Spider-Man, one with Black Panther in Spider-Man's place.

I would rather they have a 3rd script ready which isn't a case of either Black Panther OR Spider-Man but both.

Chadwick Boseman has already been announced. Are Marvel going to cut him out of the movie now to make way for Spider-Man?

Panther could still be in it, just not in Spider-Man's role. I hope he is and if both people are in it I think Spidey is the better candidate for the uncertain one. T'Challa seems like someone that's more likely to know what he wants.

This worries me. Wouldn't it be easier for Sony to change THEIR schedule. I was fine with the MS schedule as it was and I'm not sure I like that especially the BP movie is pushed back 8 month only to make place for another Spidey movie

Well, that's just it. It's further proof that this is a Marvel created movie not Sony. Marvel needs the time for their infrastructure to handle it accordingly.

Agree with this completely. There's really no incentive creatively for Fox to have the X-Men join the MCU like there is for Spider-Man or F4.

It'd be a disservice to both the X-Men story and the MCU stories.

The press release was too kind to Sony in the whole movie release power notion, Marvel is clearly letting them 'make' the movies but will for sure be 75%-99% telling Sony what villains and stories they will be making, which is the best option other than having Sony for everything over.

Yes I think Inhumans should be Phase Four now. It makes more sense in developing a new plot line and it doesn't attempt to shoe horn them in.

As for CM and BP they work very well as films in between the IW installments. It makes both characters very important. BP will rally the earth forces and CM will rally the galactic forces against Thanos so that it's everyone (Avengers, New Avengers, and Guradians of the Galaxy) vs Thanos. It makes sense.

I think that you're your fondness for Marvel show a bit two much. There's ZERO evidence to support that argument, or doubt the report, beyond "well I think that Marvel is better, so it must be so." That's not evidence.

Let's say Ronan skipped his attack on Nova Core and went straight for Thanos. Could Ronan have killed Thanos with that gem thing in his hammer?

Well Sony has made 1 great, 2 alright, and 2 terrible Spidey Films.

Marvel has made 1-2-3-4-5 great films, 2 "good", and 2 ok-forgettable... but also 2 solid tv shows which looks to be 3 now.

Marvel has all of the power, Feige will control Sony more than Sony will control Feige... Marvel is being nice to the Amy lady. It's pretty clear Sony is fully allowing this [they're plots have been abysmal overall and nothing great coming up for ideas], but the only actual hand that have in anything is suit-money type stuff. Which they must be in love with, because Marvel will now make them more money and a better investment when they were spinning their wheels towards failure and loss.

No they don't. We have ZERO evidence of that. Your "evidence" essentially amounts to "I like Marvel better" which is an opinion, not evidence. EVERY report that's come out seems to contradict your assertion. Sorry dude, it's just that simple.

doubtful, but I'm pretty sure he was convinced he could do that

I'm merely talking, press-releases are not all truths. I'm not saying my word is end all be-all, calm down buddy. Sony doesn't want the full truth of their sacrifices and dealings in this deal... Hell, just the notion that their 2nd (Garfield) series is being put into the garbage and Marvel is getting their way with a new direction tells all.

Case in point;

If one party ala Sony starts acting up or against Marvel in this deal, it is a lot easier for Marvel to 'pull their characters out of Sony's hands' than the other way around for Sony to pull Spidey away again.

At this point, Sony is lucky and will back down to anything Feige brings their way.

I just wish we could have our cake and eat it to, Garfield is awesome but his world sucked. The water has been spoiled so we have to get a clean slate again.

I think I'd just say "sorry BP fans, but he'll cameo in Spiderman somehow" and just use Spidey in CW. There's too big a gap now between Civil War and Black Panther's solo

it actually depends on the BP script
It just seems unrealistic to have Black Panther appear in Civil War, then not show up for Infinity War P1... The only way that works is if IW1 is in space, and IW2 is on Earth, when it should be the other way round imo

one day in not so distant future we will find out. four years from now it might all make sense
