MCU: The Marvel Cinematic Universe Official Discussion - Part 3

Say, despite all the talk of doing shared universes, we still don't have one on screen besides the MCU. The only exception would be Flash/Arrow, but there's none on the big screen yet. This means Phase 3 will bring the most competitive years for Marvel.
DC is less than a year away from starting theirs. We know it's happening. MOS, DOJ, and SS will, unless something goes terribly wrong, bring a 2nd shared universe onto the screen. And LucasFilm is doing something similar with the Star Wars anthologies.

I hate people like that. I’m all for stating your opinion and stuff but to deliberately tarnish a good movie just to be spiteful isn’t fair. :/
Most Prequel fans don't do that. I would know, I'm one of them. :yay:

That's why I said Phase 3 will be the most competitive phase for Marvel.

And will hopefully bring out their absolute best, which as we all know, can be pretty spectacular! If Marvel wants to stay King, they'll need to keep the quality level at IM1/TA/TWS/GOTG level.

If they can do such a solid job with Ant-Man, a project that seemed all but doomed, I'm excited to see what they do with their big guns for Phase 3.

I think it's fair to point out that we haven't seen the results, though.

I don't have much confidence in the way other studios have gone about their 'expanded universes' though. They're not following their own paths but trying to copy this Marvel mould.

Marvel might have wanted to head this way eventually, when they first made Iron Man, but they didn't announced 10 movies before they knew they were successful. They played it smart and they took their bloody time.

With the DCU in particular, all it takes is just one huge flop and it jumbles up everything they're trying to set up here.

Marvel established everything on it's own first... It kinda gave them options for recasting or rebooting or whatever if something didn't work... Look at Ed Norton/Ruffalo's Hulk.

But Batman vs Superman including WW, Aqua Man etc.... It just seems impatient and foolhardy.

Batman is such a popular hero and they've already established Supes (not perfectly either, mind). If they were smart, they would have just focused on those two characters first.

I think DCCU is going about it right by starting with established heroes. "Too big to fail." Of course, if these films aren't billion dollar grossers, it's a lost cause for them. But Suicide Squad is probably the safest bet. It has an almost TDK/Nolan feel to it. While BvS is the pure spectacle film that hopefully isn't too grandiose for its own good. Both need to be billion dollar films IMO, or at least combine for 2 billion since that wouldn't be realistic for an obscure property like SS.

After these two, I don't know what the hell they should do, besides Justice League which may be exponentially more overblown than BvS.

Yes welcome back Wolvie.

They are focusing on Batman and Superman with a dose of Wonder Woman. The others will all be cameos.

As for the MCU, AoU will have given the bods some food for thought ahead of the Infinity Wars. I hope they press on with all the over the top plans as they are on a good run with Ant Man, GotG & TWS. Those films are keeping up the quality of IM1 which dropped off a bit in some of the films in between.

I just get a distinct feeling that DC is rushing to set up the universe rather than establish the characters. Marvel really took their time.

The huge risk of establishing a universe is when something sucks, it has a knock on effect with everything. I still think DC should have taken their time... A solo Batman film first, THEN the Batman vs Superman, with maybe WW in the same year... Just taken it a project at a time so they're not only establishing individual heroes but they have time to adjust their plans accordingly, based on how each film is received.

Updated MCU Chronology (made by me! with help from the MCU wikia page). Some things to keep in mind. First, I'm not sure if there will be 3 Netflix shows in 2016. I'm only making this assumption because DD has already started and I read an online rumor that Luke Cage was going to start filming soon, which means it will be released next year over the summer. Hopefully, once DD is done filming they will start Iron Fist.

Also...who knows if Agents of Shield will have a fourth season? So, I am not assuming there will be a fourth season until we hear otherwise. Lastly, this is a work in progress, so please feel free to offer some suggestions for changing it:

Good job as always.
Question, how did you come up with the timing between the Daredevil and AoS season 2 episodes?
As far as I remember the only time reference we got on DD was that it's after the battle of New York.

So, as part of my summer viewing (no new viewable shows until last night's "Fear The Walking Dead"), I've been watching all the phase II stuff in order. I've watched the first 4 episodes of AoS and am now on DD. All I can say is that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is pretty terrific when when one binge watches it.

Season 2 of AOS was really good, the show has improved a lot, though I never found it bad or anything, but now it is really good.

If the rumors about the other characters in Luke Cage come true, this will expand the number of Black actresses in the MCU to five (Rosario Dawson, Zoe Saldana, Alfrie Woodard and Christine Adams on Agents of SHIELD are the other three).

I've long favored seeing Kerry Washington, Lupita Nyong'o and Taraji P. Henson in the MCU as well as Gabrielle Union, Meagan Good, Yaya DeCosta, Naomie Harris and Sanaa Lathan in the MCU.

I do think though that the ages of Union, Lathan and Henson could be a major detriment to any of those three when they cast for female roles in Black Panther and if they ever decide to have Monica Rambeau and/or Misty Knight in the MCU. Henson though is on one of the hottest shows on TV. For the life of me, I have no idea who I would cast Union, Lathan or Henson as in the MCU and this has to do with their ages. Union is 42 and Henson and Lathan are 45. Harris is almost aged out as she turns 39 in a few weeks, although I think she would make a great Monica Rambeau.

I wish Marvel coud make a R rated film so we could get Marvel Zombies.

Well, Misty Knight was just cast, to be played by Simone Missick.

While Yaya DeCosta and Meagan Good would have been good choices, both are very busy with their own TV shows (Good on Minority Report and DeCosta on Chicago Med).

Now, can we cast Gugu Mbatha Raw as Monica Rambeau?
