MCU: The Marvel Cinematic Universe Official Discussion - Part 3

I keep forgetting Captain Marvel is in the middle of the IW films.

Sure, just call it LANCE or SPEAR, instead. Introduce an Abigal Brand type character but give her purple hair instead of green. Seriously, I just want FOX to die so there wouldn't be all of these restrictions.

Seriously, I want to see the APES franchise continue as well as other films so I couldn't disagree more.

Anybody else think the MCU version of NASA might just be the equivalent of SWORD at this point (IF Marvel doesn't have the rights to SWORD, that is)?
what was the acronym they used for Roz's Anti-Inhumans organisation yesterday? Alien Threat Counter Unit or something? ATCU? maybe they can transform them into a SWORD like organisation.

Thats nice to know. They can't avoid it forever.

I agree with her assessment that they're definitely gonna double down and make Black Panther and Captain Marvel Avengers.

Can somebody please tell me what Jeremy Latchem said "at round 4:10" - as Feige speaks about the gauntlet.

Feige was a little bit angry about him, was is something like "if the second gauntlet is real"?

Could be a massiv spoiler ;)

(it is the second video)

SPOILER:

Okay, he said "Which one do you think is the real one?"

Now i can understand, why Feige was so angry!!

Bad to know... was a BIG SPOILER!!!

I am not sure the general public is going to care so much for an Avengers film without Cap, Thor and Iron Man. Not saying it will flop or anything, but if they move away from those characters all together, that will certainty hurt the MCU as a whole.

I think Marvel can do it. They have nothing but good largely liked actors in the hero roles. Chadwick Boseman, Benedict Cumberbatch, Elizabth Olsen, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, An Avenger line up with them and a new powered female hero(whoever plays Captain Marvel). I think they can provial, if not be succesful with the first one just out of curiosity and/or brand recognition.

I think if they gradually phase out the originals, or move them to more supervisory roles to reduce screen time (like Tony heading shield), will be the way to go while keeping public interest. I don't think they'll have much of a problem with it as they develop these new characters, especially if Spidey becomes a mainstay.

I doubt they're going to retired the big three entirely, but they also have other characters who will potentialy gain as much momentum, the Guardians of the Galaxy film series is probably going to last longuer than a trilogy if James Gunn get's what he wants, Spider-Man is definitely going to be a mid-to-heavy hitter, even if Marvel only get money from the merchandising he sells, and then you also have franchises that Marvel will probably make sure to be big, like Doctor Strange, Black Panther and Captain Marvel.

If they need to, i could see them bringing back the Iron Man film series, possibly even inserting heroes like Captain America in there.

Nowhere in the interviews did Feige say that they won't produce any Cap moviesafter CW, as far as I recall. He just said that one will look at TFA, TWS and CW as a trilogy.
I looked at Star Wars as a trilogy, and here we are, movie number 7 will hit theatres soon. At one time Indiana Jones was a trilogy, yet a 4th movie, while a loud majority didn't like it, was IMO better than Temple Of Doom. Alien was considered a trilogy once, yet we have Alien 5 AND Alien: Paradise Lost coming out...

Exactly

Evans will always be Cap to me... and as long as Agent Carter lasts more than 2 seasons, Atwell will always be Peggy to me. :hrt: You know, Marvel has not fail in the casting department yet. To me, every actor/actress they cast thus far in the MCU, is so damn perfect - top notch. It'll be interesting down the road how they'll fit with every other character. I hate the idea of recasting, big no no for me cause I find it jarring to watch a different actor trying to play the same role that someone else played no matter how good they were in it. I hope that doesn't happen to anyone in the MCU. I love it. I love what marvel is doing. I cant wait next year with Civil War and Dr Strange. :hrt:

I almost agree completely. I hate the Natalie Portman casting as Jane, she pulls me out of the movies. I also wish that Don Cheadle had been cast initially instead of Terrance Howard.

Natalie Portman was miscast, but to be fair, MCU Jane was completely misconceived on just about every level. She just doesn't work as a character.

I doubt they will retire the "big 3" but I could see them trying to take those characters in another direction.

And I'm hoping after Infinity War we finally get She-Hulk.

okay okay, I should have also put in that there are some casting that felt out of place...here's my take...

I didn't mind Portman as Jane in the first thor movie but after TDW, I wasn't impressed with her performance at all. Been reading some articles about at least 5 actors who hate being part of the MCU and they were, Natalie Portman, Terrance Howard, Edward Norton, Micky Rourke, Idris Elba. I knew from the get go that Portman didn't want to be as much involved with Marvel because of what went on during production of Thor 2...Even before she was casted in Thor, I lost respect of her since the SW prequels. Mind you, she was fine in Thor but yeah...I don't think I have to go into too much detail on Norton, I do respect him as an actor and all but I just wish things had worked out between him and Marvel when they were going to do The Avengers. talk about a miss opportunity...Sad he left but it was probably for the best anyway. As for the rest, well, I don't really care...other than the fact that it had to do with $$$ and that certain scenes were left on the cutting room floor.

Any other problems I don't know of? cause I don't know any other actor who hates being part of the MCU other than those 5 I mentioned. I know some will get screwed over but my point of view is this, if Marvel's choices were for the right reasons and the actor/actress didn't like them and they start making a huge fuss out of it, to me, that's not good. very unprofessional on their part. Maybe then at the time when they got the script and read it, they thought it was a good idea to be a part of the MCU. I just think that why bother now? If they don't like it, they can leave. There's the door. Marvel should really be careful on who they cast and I think so far, they've done that. Cause I hate it when others hate on Marvel, not just by fans but the actors themselves. I mean, I can understand why but again, of all the comments I've read, its...harsh. Not nice. the way I look at it, why be part of something in the first place if you have a change of heart now? There goes your contract out the window. If I were to say to Marvel, I'd do away with Jane. Forget about her. Throw in a much more compelling actress and a better character from the Thor comics into the mix, then I'd be able to forget Portman was ever a part of the MCU. And yes, Don Cheadle should have been casted initially instead of Howard.

I was on IGN today and read some bad comments about Cumberbatch being Dr Strange, how rude :( saying he's a bad actor and terrible choice for the role. like have they really seen the movie yet? gawd...seriously. I'm not worried. Are any of you?

Basing Natalie Portman's acting ability off of the Star Wars Prequels is the equivalent of basing Kevin Feige's talent solely off of his involvement with X-Men: The Last Stand and Ang Lee's Hulk. She's a terrific actress and I would strongly advise you to watch more of her body of work to get a more accurate picture of her abilities.

Also, those "rumours" that she didn't want to return for Thor 2 were 100% unsubstantiated and directly refuted by everyone involved. Not one of the websites that ran with the rumours as a story were able to provide a source for their info, therefore making them redundant. She admitted that she had been a little upset by Patty Jenkins leaving TDW, but that she was still excited to return.

Basically, the point I'm trying to make here is this:

Verifiable quotes and interviews>Bull***t internet rumours without a source

They dont have to recast. They can just have the characters die/retire when the actors contract expires or whatever. For example Stark gets old, retires with Pepper and hands his mantle over to Vision or something. Cap retires and hands the mantle to...Bucky or Falcon or Spidey, I dunno. Maybe Fur y dies and Cap directs SHIELD. Maybe Cap dies and the just hang his shield up on a stand next to a statue of him in a museum or something.

Maybw the Avengers eventually hand there mantle over too a new team they organized. They dont HAVE to be recasted they can just let the MCU run its course with all the heroes.

Okay...and I just wanted to say...that I used to be a fan of Portman outside of the Star Wars prequels. If it hadn't been for Lucas directing those prequels, I'm sure we would have gotten a better version of what could have happen...I know its not their fault when it comes to acting but some people have to be careful what they say. Otherwise it rubs others the wrong way... Don't get me wrong, I am not trying to put down Portman, I know she's capable and where her acting chops lie but Star Wars, I'm sorry...wasn't her real true strength. Like I said, I love Thor and I had no problem with Portman in it but while I too enjoyed Thor 2, it could have been so much better. The last thing I want to see is how Thor 3 is going to end and trust me, I don't want to see it end in the same light as the Star Wars Prequels. I want the Thor 3 to end the trilogy in a way that it finishes off in a really strong tone...

The problem with Marvel not being able to hold onto a director/writer is that if they can't see eye to eye, they're not going to make things work together. They have to be on the same page to make it work and come together as a team. Once they release the movie and it doesn't do well, well, it goes to show that Marvel and 'Team' had no chemistry. Nothing. It was a wasted effort. And I hate to see that happen for future releases and especially for the future of the MCU.

Would you allow yourself to hate Kevin Feige purely because he was heavily involved with X-Men: The Last Stand and Ang Lee's Hulk? I thought not. Also, everyone in the Prequels looked bad, not just Portman. Even Nick Fury himself, Samuel. L. Jackson, hardly gave a strong performance in those movies.

Finally, your comparison between Thor 3 and the Prequels is irrelevant since the last time I checked, George Lucas isn't directing any Marvel movies anytime soon.

I don't hate Kevin Feige. and honestly, I have no reason to. If Marvel wants to do things their way, so be it. Whatever works as long as everyone is on the same level. But I think Marvel as of now is on the right track if they stick with their game plan.

All I want for Thor 3 is to go out with a bang. I don't want it to be another Thor 2 where fans are going to be left disappointed a second time.

Some directors are fit for these sort of movies no matter what aspects are involved, some aren't.

Now going back to Star Wars, with Disney having the rights to the franchise, at least, well, I would like to believe, its in good hands. As long as Lucas isn't directing those ones, then great. and I don't think he even has the right mind set if he even tries to direct a Marvel movie...cause really, who wants that?

On that note, yeah...Moving on.

Also remember what Feige said about Inhumans "a franchise of franchises". Its probably the most risky project out of all the upcoming ones but also the most lucrative if successful.
