MCU: The Marvel Cinematic Universe Official Discussion - Part 4

Agents of SHIELD is often considered a sort of outcast of the MCU and it's "weakest" series which is too bad, as the second season definitely raised the bar even if folks had mostly written it off by then. It has some amazing villains, though.

Garret is just the sort of over the top villain I tend to love. He was all personality and insanity, a beautiful mix. Also, stop with the damn hail hydras. You look like a cheerleader.

Ward is a character who was pretty flat and boring until you find out he's a villain. Since then not only has he been getting more interesting (the actor certainly seems more into it), they have been building on what came before and coloring it in a new context that gives him a real depth. He's gone through being the all to generic handsome good guy to the loyal but not fanatic sidekick henchman to the black mirror trying to recreate the family he had in SHIELD in the most twisted way possible to the true HYDRA soldier.

Daisy's parents were both interesting in their own rights. Her mother had all sorts of Magneto in her personality making her somewhat sympathetic even while being a evil, no good person. Her dad was just pure delight to me. Again, Cal started out all personality and seeming insanity but slowly they revealed this side to him that was pure... love. He loved his wife, he loved his daughter. He loved them enough to destroy his own body and anyone else he was pointed at and it would eventually destroy him but he did it out of love. A lot of people say that villains are better when they truly believe they are right, when they are acting not only for their own good but out of a superior sense of righteousness. Both of Daisy's parents had that. Jiaying because she believed she was protecting the Inhumans. Cal because he believed it was the only way to bring his family back together.*

Even the less memorable or episode only ones - Lash, Reinhardt, Creel, Loralie - were pretty well written for what they were.

Then we have Agent Carter which has had less time (and spends more of it on developing it's protagonist) has had Dottie Underwood and the amazing Whitney Frost. Both woman are among the rare female and evil in the MCU but man, both of them make it look good. Dottie was interesting if just for being an early Widow but second season really showed a fun side of her personality with her literal copy catting of Peggy. And Whitney? Honestly I don't know anyone who watches the series who doesn't think Whitney is anything less than a solidly written, well preformed villain. She has gotten enough character development this season to really give her depth and make you love the character and see where her "evil" is rooted. Sympathetic seeming without actually doing anything worthy of sympathy.

* In case it's not obvious I definitely consider Cal and all star MCU villain. You rocked it, Cal!

I don't get it. :/
Sorry for the late reply. The no-prize is just something Marvel Comics used to give out to readers who would explain away plot holes, inconsistencies, etc. not unlike what you did. The joke was the prize was no prize. :)

Just got my Marvel Phase Two boxset today. Got it off Ebay, UK based and Region Free for a pretty decent price. Love all the props.

Huh, cool. The more ya know I guess. :)

I second that as well. Agent Carter season 2 has been disappointing in comparison to its stellar first season but it's still a worthy entry into the MCU.

I think they've gone overboard with the Jarvis/Peggy slapstick, but other than that I've loved it. I think Whitney Frost is an interesting villain. That episode that showed Peggy and her growing up, how their lives were shaped by the people around them, was excellent. Dotty has also become more interesting to me this season.

I hope we do get at least one more season.

Britney Frost? During a fight with Peggy, does she say "hit me baby one more time?" :oldrazz:

That black stuff coming out of her is definitely toxic though. :o

Out of all the MCU stars, who of them is actually a fan of comics?
Clark Gregg comes as a Captain America geek, the way Phil spoke to Cap in The Avengers movie, LEGO Marvel, and Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon, I can't help but think "this guy is one fan club served very well".

EDIT:
I forgot Terrence Howard is a fan of Iron Man comics.

Does Holland count? He says he likes Ultimate Comics. And has been a fan of the character since he was little.

I hope his mother taught him when he was young, otherwise he'll have a problem knowing if he received the correct change when he goes to the store. :o

This. I do hope we get another season (if ABC doesn't want it, I hope Netflix picks it up for a Season 3 and retools it).

I'm a fan of the show but I don't think we'll get another season and at this point I'm fine with that. She's had a great run, even with a somewhat lackluster second season.

I'm thinking we won't get another season of Carter, but if they do one they should consider changing the formula a little. Maybe bring in more focus on powers. They could either throw her into a team up situation with the Agents of Atlas in a direct sequel (Flash gets Grodd, give me Gorilla-Man dagnabbit) or time skip into an early Ant-Man story. Also hire a new marketing team. I think those cringey promos are scaring a few viewers away (this applies to most ABC shows).

I like how even MCU actors that haven't been in anything together still spend time together for conventions and stuff. :woot:

Which convention are they going to? And maybe they're just letting Chloe hang with them because she's pretty and fun.

Any chance they'll make any major announcements there? Like a possible rights reversion of the FF?

Do Marvel even go to SDCC anymore?

I don't think we'll get any announcements. Of the MCU people only Elizabeth Henstridge and Michael Rooker are still there today. The only crew were the Russo brothers and they left already along with the three actors in the picture.

I think for announcements Marvel will probably just host their own press conferences, or go to conventions with less competition like D23.

Ok, I see. When is D23? Is it every year?

Why did these actors even go to Wizard World? I can understand the Russos, because of Civil War, but Hemsworth? What about everyone else? This con seems very low key. Where was Hiddleston?
