Yea remember when they pulled inhumans from the schedule? Negative PR is Negative PR. No company wants bad press.

How did that PR actually "hurt" them? All their films have been massive successes since that announcement. So who cares if for like a day people were unhappy about Inhumans? Marvel just wants to keep their focus on Endgame entirely. That's why we don't have a concrete phase 4. Not to avoid bad PR in case things change.

Nobody was really clamoring for Inhumans anyway. I mean, weren't Black Panther and Captain Marvel pushed back after the Sony deal? There was a bit of backlash there, but then both films made $1B+ and made more than Homecoming, lol.

Exactly. I can remember some disappointment at scrapping Inhumans and sending it to TV, but I know it was very slight. They just don't want to undermine Endgame before it comes out. That is the only reason. Feige has said many times they felt like AoU lost some steam because of how they announced Phase 3 before it came out, so they're trying to avoid that.

And what was the net impact of that negative PR, that’s what I’m saying. Especially compared to the positive PR and hype boost that happens when a slate is revealed. If you take away both the slate and the mistakes on the slate, I would be less of a MCU fan overall as there would be less to anticipate and discuss with fellow fans years in advance. It would stop being an all consuming product for me.

Now if you have a slate like some of the DC ones where most of it changed or got pulled, then that’s pointless. But I think that MCU Phase 3 reveal was a success and they have delivered on it well despite some films getting moved around or cancelled.

I'm just saying Inhumans and Spider-Man returning and bumping everything back are reasons why Feige probably hasn't announced the entire slate. its so they can avoid situations like that. Or when they slotted in ant-man and the wasp and stuff got delayed again.

And again, I don't agree with that assessment because it led to no monetary impact. Feige points to him feeling their phase 3 slate announcement's timing hurt AoU financially a bit because it took the wind out of its sails and made it feel like less of an event, but these other instances you're naming had no impact, and all the films that got moved ended up making 800+ WW or over a billion. So no, I think that reason has no merit.

Damn... I want to see more Strange but that seems like a WAY fast turn around.

About 12 months between the start of principal photography and release is pretty standard for Marvel.

I really hope they can get 3 films ready for 2020. My schedule would be.

Doctor Strange 2 - November

Yeah, Marvel could potentially re-plant a 3rd flag in August for Eternals (they'd have to do it quick though, and if they do we'll hear about it), since it starts filming in August/September this year, and Zhao will have had well over a year of prep-time.

Derrickson signed on officially last December, and has had several years to stockpile ideas for DS2, so they could handily make a November/December start and release Nov 2020.

But the report might be mistaken, and it's still just BW/Eternals for next year.

Derrickson is still filming Locke & Key which ends production in June. They could start production in November and go for a November 2020 release. Ideally Id want Strange 2 in the big May 2020 slot but if thats not doable then Id settle for November.

As far as I can see, Derrickson left Locke & Key in 2017 because it conflicted with the Snowpiercer series (which he left last summer because the showrunner wanted heavy reshoots)

DS2 is the only thing on Derricksons plate right now (on his IMDB there are 2 other films listed, but they're from before he even got the first DS, and they don't look like they're happening.)

But it made less than The Avengers did. Which I am sure Marvel was targetting a BO increase since all their other sequels saw the BO go up.

Disney execs were reportedly disappointed with age of ultron. They were expecting more than 1.4 billion.

That's just because it wasn't as good of a movie in most people's eyes. (Imo theres no comparison AoU is way better)

I will be the first person to stand up and sing Age of Ultron's praises as I think that is one of the most underrated MCU entries. But at the same time, me having to defend it and call it underrated means its praise was not universal, LOL!

Yeah I see the reception as (merely) fine/good, with some complaints about Ultron, but that compares to cinematic events like the first Avengers and IW (and you would expect Endgame). I have no problem rewatching it.

It's possible. I think they need to get in front of cameras by September at the latest to really have a realistic chance at getting this out in November of next year. Doable, but hopefully we hear something about locations soon then.

It's a chore to watch Avengers imo. I only watch it in a marathon.

I have watch those back to back as a trilogy before, and I agree it is an amazing viewing experience

Not with any new characters or anything like that, so I tend to doubt it.

I think the new films, like Captain Marvel this year or Eternals coming up, should have longer production schedules than established films

Its fine for a cast and crew- like Derrickson on DS2 or Coogler on BP2- who know what they're doing to have a shorter timeframe since they can hit the ground running... but unknown quantities should have longer post production phases to really fine tune them and get them perfect.

If Eternals goes from casting to production to post to release in just over a year, that feels too rushed and can lead to a bit of the "filmed by commitee" feel that CM had

It's possible they did or Marvel maybe opted to swap places at some point. Who knows on that front. Eternals could always be coming early 2021 if that is the case. But that likely means BP2 isn't in 2021, unless they decide to make it a May release.
