MCU: The Marvel Cinematic Universe Official Discussion - Part 5

Spidey hopefully won’t exit the mcu. And I’m still confident galactus and silver surfer will show up in endgame. That’s just me tho

Yea I'm convinced the deal will get renewed and Marvel will ask for more access to their characters like Osborn. Especially if they want to do Dark Avengers.

That would be awesome. I want to see Spidey's world opened up to the MCU

I could see Stark Tower becoming Oscorp in a bid to get Sony to renew the deal.

Who knows maybe its classic a misdirection and hes lying.
Nope. Most likely truthful. It doesn't make much sense for Marvel change what they have right now in favor of doing yet another X-Men film. Frankly, I prefer this since I like it when Marvel introduces us to the obscure characters in the universe. I like that Marvel is shining the spotlight on the lesser known stuff like Eternals keeps things new and fresh rather than rehash the same ol' properties everybody knows. Guardians felt like a breath of fresh air and even managed to beat both Amazing Spider-Man 2 and Days Of Future Past(the highest grossing X-film to date) to become the highest grossing comic book film of 2014. If they can get their B-list properties to beat their A-list properties at the box office then I see no reason for them to rush.

Others also cited what Marvel did with Spider-Man when they Sony deal happen where they pushed back release dates to make room for the webslinger but often times people miss the fact its an apples and oranges comparison: Marvel was doing Sony a favor in exchange for access to Spider-Man while in the FF and X-Men's case they now have complete and unlimited access to those characters. The FF and X-Men are now owned by Marvel every bit as a much as other characters they have full access to. Spider-Man doesn't have that luxury so Marvel has to work in accordance to Sony's schedule instead of the one they would prefer.

I jokingly suggested Uncle Ben in the X-Men thread. But now that I think about it, I guess it wouldn't be a bad fit. Probably not the kind of meaty role he'd prefer, but I could see him as the MCU version of Ben Parker.
Too sexy and young for Uncle Ben.

Argh, I just realized that Spidey may possibly exit the MCU after FFH this year.. That means all the new franchises will be Z-list characters...

So basically, we have sequels to Black Panther, Guardians, Strange and CM coming up. That's awesome. But the appetizers/new IPS are Z-list characters instead of the characters everybody is hyped to see....
Who was "hyped" for a GOTG film before it proved to be such a success that my own mother is a fan of Rocket and Groot? (I myself find the Guardian films smug and grating and a swerve from who and what those characters are from the source myself... But the films were a success with the wider audience...) Who would have been hyped for a Black Widow film before 2012?

Five years is actually not a long time at all. And I think there is a very good chance that there will be other Marvel produced product that will help sow the soil as it were for bigger visibility before then regarding the FF and Mutants. I think we will see animated serues for both before we get definitive dates for film releases.

I think it is much better to let them have a plan than rush into things ESPECIALLY with the Mutants.

Too young and sexy to play Marisa Tomei's husband? Not really, imo.

Not saying I want him in the role, but with her as Aunt May, it's not gonna be some old wise dude stereotype casting. But if we're going for former Fox-Men, I'd say Hugh Jackman for Uncle Ben. He said he wanted in the MCU first, after all, and he's closer in age to Tomei.

Feige at SDCC.

On one hand, I blindly trust Feige because he made Captain America, Black Panther and Carol Danvers billion dollar properties. Hell he even got Ant Man to be a household name now too, so for his Phase 4, if he goes with his OG plan, it’s cool.

BUT on the other hand, what he said better be a fake out. Disney did not pay all that money just to have the X-Men and the Fantastic Four to sit on the shelf for 5 more years after all the dark magic they did to acquire Fox. The businessman in me says they won’t let that happen.

Eternals and all that stuff is cool, but Phase 4 has to be the Mutant Agenda. That’s way too much surefire money and expectations to keep on the shelf.

Like I said in the other thread. He said we won’t see the xmen for awhile he said nothing about mutants . The xmen are a team but they do work separately aswell. So I definitely see the characters being sprinkled in different movies.

Deadpool is now in a interesting position since it seems that even after the deal closed the sequels will be released under Fox (according to what Alan Horn said at Cinemascon) with little to no Marvel Studios involvement. So unless Disney wants to give the DP franchise a rest for a while until Marvel is ready to do something with it then the next DP film likely won't be in the MCU and Wade Wilson will remain separate from the MCU until he's soft-rebooted into it after the third installment. Marvel will be to busy getting the first half of their phase 4 up on running that it might take a while for Marvel to even consider doing something with DP.

And I'm not sure if Disney is willing to wait long enough for Marvel Studios to have room on their slate for DP like they would with X-Men & Fantastic Four since unlike FF/X-Men Wade Wilson's current franchise is in much better shape than either one of those aforementioned properties with little need for a hard reboot. So I can see Disney keeping the-Merc-With-The-Mouth at Fox for the time being while Feige figures out how'll he introduce the mutants and the fantastic quartet into the MCU.

Good loophole.

He essentially killed the hopes of all those fanboys who are expecting Marvel to jump on the X-Men train immediately as soon as the rights were back home.

X-Men(and likely FF)isn’t in the Phase Four plans for now and Feige said it will take “a very long time” before Marvel does a X-film.

Fair enough. I thought as much. Marvels success has been long term planning they have enough material to keep them going and it would be good to let everyone forget about fox's stuff before the relaunch. Still hoping hawleys doom film gets made in the next few years though.

He mentions the X-Men as not being in his 5 year plan. But he never said the FF. I am thinking it may be possible that the FF comes in the 4th or 5th year of the 5 year plan. But the slates for the movies they have under way for 2019-2021 likely isn't going to change.

I might even add 2022 to that as well. I think there'll be a new franchise introduced that year and it very well could be F4, but I think Guardians 3, Ant-Man 3 and possibly the Captain Marvel sequel are what we could d be looking at there

That is true, but I don't think all 3 of those sequels happen in the same year. In the 3 year model, we always get 1 new franchise, so I don't think we'd get all 3 in one year. Especially since both Guardians 3 and Captain Marvel 2 would be cosmic. My guess is Captain Marvel 2 would come in 2023 in that scenario, possibly with a new Avengers film. Guardians 3 is further along at this point.

Yeah, like I said, I think there will be a new franchise that year, I'm just not sure what it could be.

Maybe I selfishly want Captain Marvel 2 in '22 instead of '23, but I'm cool with seeing Captain Marvel in two movies each year she has a solo film :hehe:

Yeah while I wouldn't be opposed to seeing the FF & X-Men right after Endgame I think the X-Men at least could maybe do with a break for a year or two.

There have been a lot of X-Men films and as they say absence makes the heart grow fonder. So reintroducing them after a few years hiatus might make them even bigger.
