Transformers Negatron: Discussion Thread for those that hate the way this movie is heading

It also makes no sense. The analogy doesn't work. Changing the GI Joe's to postal workers is make a complete change. Last time I checked, Optimus Prime was still a badass truck that turned into a robot.:o

Well, I do think the G1 designs would have worked fine on film, and even some slightly tweaked G1's would have been fine too if need be.

It's true Optimus is still a truck that turns into a robot...but he looks so different from how he really should look. If you lopped his head off you'd never guess the movie version was Prime, really.
Can't do the same with the G1 design.

Megatron and Starscream don't really resemble themselves...and even more, their transformations are pretty much the same now.

From what I've seen it was because of the director's hostility towards G1 that there was no way those designs would end up in the film.

The G1 designs would have looked like ASS, I repeat: ASS, in this film.

More faithful interpretation than what we got, okay. G1? ASS.

Betcha they'd work just fine in a TMNT-like computer generated movie

If I had 34 mil I'd fund that.

If they were shooting a full CGI movie, that's a different story. You're talking about constructing a a movie entirely different than what this movie was though. That goes a little beyond character design.

Yes, an entirely CGI movie that was more true to G1 would be pretty awesome IMO. Something for just the fans. Anybody got an extra 34 mil they can spare?

you guys complain about everything. Nothing is good enough for you. Did you ever think that maybe they tired making it look like the cartoon robots, but its looked stupid, so they chagned it.

Just like if they had Magneto in the same colour they used in the cartoon or even wolverine....it would've looked stupid as well.

You guys have to understand that not everyone can be pleased. I think they made it to look as modern and easy-on-the-eyes as they possibly could.

Cant you all just give credit where creidt is due. Most of you hated the film simply because you bended you mind to hating the film for the beginning. Yes a couple stuff in the film was corny, i think everything worked (except a few plot holes), action was great....I THINK the robot designs were fine...

Disagree all you want, it'd still look utterly ridiculous.

Well, we'll disagree on that point.

Since someone brought up Batman, if in a film featuring that character...if his costume was changed completely to something rather different, and the only thing left in intact was the bat ears on top so he could still be called Batman...I doubt people would find dissatisfaction with that as a friviolous thing.

It wouldn't be a fun internet if everyone agreed now would it :cwink:

Batman has to be one of the worst analogies that's come up.

Bruce Wayne doesn't transform into a ****ing semi.

Well, we're talking aesthetics...how the characters look.

One can use Superman's costume as another example...Tim Burton's vision of him being dressed in black and silver and using his S symbol as an edged boomerang on top of looking like Frankenstein...would complaints about that one been frivolous?

Aesthetics, you see...and sometimes aesthetics are connected to deeper parts of chracters.

But he does like a mean martini...oh my bad, that's bond...

but whatever, this argument is ages old. You know that Ragdus...why go on with it. We've all had these discussions when the Transformers forum was first brought up.

DarkMajin...you are going to be in the minority with your thinking. There are VERY few people across all the Transformer boards who would agree with you. Now if you had said that modernized designs with more resemblance to G1 designs would be better, then I would most definitely agree with you...but direct translations would look severly dated and unrealistic.

Firstly, I wasn't a great fan of the character designs in this movie... and aesthetics is indeed part of it.

But the advocating of designs much more in-line with G1 cartoons is simply beyond erroneous thinking. Prime's cartoon look is pretty much laughably stupid outside of the cartoon context. It is crude to the point of idiotic. Need proof: Takara Masterpiece Prime. Greatest Transformer figure ever crafted, and I own it. But he looks NOTHING like a REAL semi when transformed. It's easy to ignore when you're in the fictitious cartoon world. It's not so easy when you put him into this world.

QFT

And with that I'll follow your advice and move on.

Heh, I've noticed that. It could be G1 pure or G1 slightly tweaked...which would mean a more modernized and sleeked up look of G1.

My thing is that the characters should be recognizable is all.

When watching the movie....did you know who the different robots were?

I'm not above sleeking up G1 designs...I just think the characters should look a lot like what their iconic designs are.

Man, some fanboys really live up to their reputation. They completely trash the movie before hand and now are orgasmic it didn't totally suck. Michael Bay ever being heralded as a great director makes fanboy opinion pretty much worthless.

LOL. Watching the praise for this movie (for me personally) is like watching George Bush win the election all over again. I'm like "WTF are you people smoking?"

Hahaha... is it really THAT bad?

PS: Bush didn't win.

I dunno, I try and look at the positives in the success in this movie. Let's, once again, bring up GINO. Had that movie been a success there would have been a sequel, possible tv spinoff, etc. In other words the franchise would have benefited. This movie being successful will benefit the Transformers franchise and I am hoping, praying for a better writing team and director. I did not want this to be a failure because that could have killed Transformers as a whole. So I am glad for the success because it holds more promise for the future.

Though I AM hoping that some G1 fan with a buttload of money will produce that computer animated G1 faithful movie that I've been dreaming about :wishful thinking smilie:

I wouldn't mind seeing David Fincher take a crack at it if he could pull out some of that Alien III / Fight Club mojo.
