The Dark Knight Rises New Batmobile

Even if it did look great, how important would it serve for the story? He wouldn't be traveling through the rivers all that much. I don't think it would serve that much purpose at all. I'm not familiar with Chicago, but I just don't see the purpose for it.

ALP gave a very good answer but to answer your point in relation to the batboat fitting a narrative arc and not simply there to sell toys. Batman is being pursued by the GPD and as he'll want to prosecute further his war on crime, he'll need heavy firepower and a fast means of egress in certain situations. Now the GPD have already had one encounter with Batman on the road. They'll have learned from that experience and should be better prepared. Batman will want to be as unpredictable as possible, hence why using the rivers, sewers and waterways is a prudent course of action. Think how many assets the GPD have on the water? They'll have far fewer boats than they'll have vehicles and officers on foot. This provides Batman with a major advantage and if he can slip through Gotham's sewers for instance, this will make him harder to track. For me, it makes perfect sense to have a boat. Nathan Crowley is up for it and presumably has some approximate designs in his mind. Chris Nolan is always looking to push the envelope when visually conceiving and staging an action set-piece. I think a big set-piece on the water with a batboat would be great. I'd love to see the stealth boat come with hydrofoils when it engages its afterburner.

Batblade?

I'd like to address a point in regards to some having an unease about a new vehicle due to the inevitable 'cashing in' by toy companies and an overarching feeling of gadgets and vehicles being 'gimmicky'. Whatever Batman has will invariably be made into a toy or be part of some marketing drive. Who cares? Bat gloves, the utility belt, bat knickers (1) whatever it is it will be made into a toy. In addition, what isn't 'gimmicky' about anything in the films? The gas-powered grappling gun, utility harness (later a belt), kevlar bi-weave armoured suit, memory clothed cape etc. All in all the matter is rather a moot one.

One final point. For Batman to have all his equipment made for him, he'll need more than simply Lucius Fox's cavernous intellect. I think we ought to see Bruce Wayne assembling a very small but highly-skilled technical team who will build and maintain his technical assets. He managed to keep his mobile phone sonar technology under wraps, why couldn't he do the same for further procurement of his high-tech gear? What if Bruce Wayne were to set-up a foundation or initiative to train the most abled body people to work in Wayne Enterprises. For instance a new apprenticeship type scheme where the most skilled and brightest engineers come to work for Bruce and he handpicks the best. One other possibility would hinge on Roman Sionis/the Black Mask being involved in the film. One element of the story could involve the competition between Janus Industries and Wane Enterprises becoming more heated. There coud be a corporate espionage/sabotage element to the story and perhaps a plot thread where Batman saves some key employees of Janus Industries, in this case engineers. In return for Batman saving and protecting them, they offer their services to Bruce. Perhaps one of them could suggest modifications for the suit or something similar. From there, we have the design team who are loyal to Bruce and yet able to design and produce whatever he requires without any information leaks. Just a thought.

1. Marketed of course to the female market, I know I'd salivate too at the thought.

"The bat-signal is not a beeper."

"Well, that depends on where it's placed!"

I say just have Lucious Fox's daughter show up and make the Batboat.

Heres a concept art for the batmobile from Under the Red Hood that I think would work. Its the one on the left

The one of the left looks like a sleeker Tumbler.

I love every single one of those designs. But yes, the one on the left would be more suitable as a follow-up to the Tumbler. It's much improved too.

I always hated the bat's face on the car's hood. Its cheesier than rubber nipples and ice puns. I also hate the extravagant bat wings. Just give the car some discreet fins, but it doesnt have to be huge bat wings, otherwise you might as well get the Schumacher cars. And that's why my favourite Batmobiles are the Tumbler and the BTAS one.

I know its not a Batmobile, but this would make an awesome Batwing, its from Under the Red Hood

I love this. Basically a sleeker tumbler but without the ears part. Keep the flaps from the old tumblers

Here's the thing. Why would batman need a sleeker tumbler? The first one is built like a tank for a reason its as strong as one practically. As for speed that's not a concern it's practically race car fast already.

Any change would purely be for aesthetics.

Fully agreed. I like simple fins and no cheesy bat-head on the front of the car.

Both the design for the Batmobile and the Batwing would be absolutely perfect. Under The Red Hood is such an amazing movie... love every second of it.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't recall the car being referred to as "The Tumbler" by anyone but Lucius, and that was before it was owned by Batman, thus making it "The Batmobile."

In fact, I don't think they've ever called it anything. If they ever do, it'll probably be "The Batmobile." The bike was called "The Batpod" not the "Tumblebike".

Yep.

If anyone in the film had referred to it as the batmobile, then I would agree. But that is simply not the case. No one behind the scenes in real life calls it the batmobile either. Nolan, Crowley, etc, they all say the tumbler. So that's what it is. But mostly, I'm not sure being owned by Batman is enough just to be renamed. The reason we call the suit the batsuit is because in BB, Batman placed his batsymbol on it and changed many thing about it. Otherwise we'd still be calling it the $300,000 normex survival suit. The only thing he may or may not have done to the tumbler was paint it black. Is that enough to warrant a bat title? I'm not sure, but according to anyone in or outside the film, the answer is no.

Of course your second point is much more questionable. But by any means, it was apparently dubbed the batpod by Alfred, while making, what many of you like to call, a cheesy joke.:cwink:

The Tumbler was Batman's car. It had a rocket in the back, its cockpit opened in a high tech fashion, and it shot missiles, flew over rooftops and across rivers.

It IS the Batmobile even if they never called it that. Just like if he gets a plane and they refrain from calling it "the batwing" but just call it "the plane", it will be the batwing.

That's not true.

Watch the featurette on your Begins dvd again. Nolan, Crowley, Goyer, Bale, Pfister, all of them - all call it the Batmobile. Constantly. In fact, in the length of the entire feature, I didn't count Nolan using the word "Tumbler" once - he used "Batmobile" every single time.

Then I am mistaken, I thought it was always tumbler. Well that strikes out about everything I said. If Nolan and Crawley refer to it as the batmobile... then that's more than enough to call it that in the film.

Was the Batmobile ever refered to as the Batmobile in Burtons movies, i cant remember??

I actually quite like the "Tumbler" moniker..idk it just works..even if you use "Tumbler Batmobile" it still works in order to differentiate between that and the new "Batmobile"
