Maybe turning it into some fully horror movie doesn't demonstrate enough confidence in the source material like when they tried to make Fantastic Four whatever the hell Fant4stic was? Obviously not to the same extent, but still, some bad decisions were taken that led to this.

or maybe they're just willing to do something different?

Trying too hard to be different and edgy, they just outfoxed themselves.

Déjà vu.

it worked for x-men (2000)
anyways we'll know it when the movie comes out

I envisioned this much more different when it was announced. I remember speculating the original cast could be involved since the prequel cast can't pass off as veteran X-Men yet (except for Lawrence, Hoult and McAvoy). Can we seriously see Zaga, Williams, Heaton as the "Jr" counterparts to Turner, Sheridan, Shipp? They look like contemporaries with them.

Maybe interest in this would've been higher if their existence was established in a previous X-Men movie that was a big hit like DOFP, instead of bringing them in out of nowhere with no relation to X-Men? IDK.

I was totally on board when they announced. But then all this horror shenanigan came out, no X-Men, no costumes and the low budgeted looking trailer. The X clearly didn't mark the spot.

Movie is not being completely reshot. Budget/conflicting schedules do not allow for this. Maybe a quarter at the most being reshot. I "heard" the movie was bad.. Really bad. Fox thinks they can save it by adding humor and more lighthearted scenes. Not going to work. Very sad.

NM was originally intended to be a fun film focusing mostly on the mutants interactions with each other and exploring their powers, while headmaster was away on leave. Literally going out into public and using their powers like real teens would, messing around with normies. This attracts the attention of the govt. So Govt attacks school with ridiculously oversized skyscraper sized sentinels that smash everything in their way. It would've been freaking epic.

I "heard" this was movie was almost entirely different in its early stages, but Fox decided to let it go in JB's idiotic horror direction after the successes of the last two R rated fox X-Movies. "People" tell me that there were some whom were involved long before JB showed up who fought against this decision. And it cost some of them their jobs. Others stayed and tried to right the ship. But that was in vain.

I can back this up. There were definite issues during the shoot last summer, and a power struggle on set. But unlike Fantastic Four, right now it doesn't sound like Boone is going to self immolate his career like Trank did.

What a shame. :csad:

Not as many as the outsiders.

Aside not featuring colorful costumes and turning the Xavier Institute into a mutant university... I don't think it was such a departure from the comics. They still got the basics.

That's more in line with what I expected tbh.

Yeah that sounds more like the New Mutants.

Based on some of those reports, it just reads like the film was drearily dull.

If Boone is really aiming for a horror film. Then he succeeded. :o

lol what?

well outside of white roberto and dr. reyes they got the looks right but there's still the characterizations
Slugzilla called this way back actually. Someone has already reposted that.
interesting.. though I've seen too many coming here claiming to know stuff and rarely anything becoming true

lol what?

You said suddenly there are a lot of insiders here. But its just Slugzilla in this thread. Majority of the posters here are still outsiders and has no source from Fox.

If Fox wants the movie to amp up the scare factor, it makes me wonder if this could be R-Rated now? Especially with the success of Get Out and IT.

The only silver lining in this. But if it's not good, there isn't much of a point.

I will say that I will keep an open mind because I like the concept so much. But I am now going to be very cautious whereas before I was genuinely excited. 'Tis a shame.

Movie was far closer to Deadpool than any other X-Film, Originally shooting for a light R rating, but not that horror garbage. Still lighthearted but these were real characters, they drank, cursed, there was some hilarious stuff. Some of the best stuff came from Sunspot. He accidentally tore a man's arm off.

Were they going to feature the X-Men like in a cameo role?

Yeah I was the first person to respond to him. And a few days later, the film is moved to 2019. I believe him.

We know, you don't like superhero films.

Haha, no. I just don't think "superheroes" should be confined to a genre unto themselves. Saying I don't like superhero films would be as snide as me saying, we know you only like committee-driven, CG-laden products.

the horror thing is part of the source material, and I wouldn't be interested in this if they made it like every superhero film ever
Ehh... Outside of the Demon Bear Saga, not really.. Certainly not the extent this movie has taken it. Visually, it looks nothing like the comics at all.

Multiple conflicting reports. Ugh.

Also got to be honest, turning this project into a straight horror film, I thought that was a little weird.

Logan was made into a dark, hard R rated and gritty western. I think that works because there have been Wolverine comic series in that style and tone. Wolverine has generally been one of the darker and more violent characters over the years. Plus it was treated as sort of an ending to the cinematic version of the character.

When I think of comic horror stories, sorry, I never thought of New Mutants. I always saw them as a new X-Men mutant superhero team similar to the X-Men but different.
