I think they need to go with the less is more approach. As the original series went on there was just to much Freddy, I know it sounds stupid but stick with me on this. Think about the later movies, there were long sustained shots of Freddy in bright lit rooms. Just go back to the way it was in the first film where they showed his face a little less and he was a bit more in the shadows. Just the way I'd like to see it done.

Get Robert Englund to do the remake as well or don't do it at all.
Thats the whole point of a remake, to set it apart from the others. if they wanted to use RE they just make another sequel.

I liked him as much as the next guy but its time for another person. and see what they can do with the role.

wouldnt it be amazing if they could get Michelle Gondry to direct a dream sequence for the film.

Just a little mention of the NOES remake from Producer Brad Fuller on the official Platinum Dunes site.

On to 'Elm Street' - As many of you know we have been chasing that one for two years. We have been obsessed with Freddy and are so thrilled to be a part of bringing him back. We have been reading the boards to see what people are looking for and certainly taking that into account. The 'Nightmare' films are complex and conceptually very challenging. We don't come to this movie ignorant of Freddy's place in the horror pantheon. As such we will not make this film until New Line and we feel that story we are telling is worthy.

I just want to dispel a couple of rumors. Billy Bob Thornton, who has worked with Bay before and we all love, has not been discussed for the role of Freddy. But no one has because we don't have the final version of the script yet. Once we do then we will start having casting discussions. Additionally, Robert Englund is an amazing actor and it is our hope that he will be in the film, but again, we can't consider that until we have a completed script.

I wish you all happy holidays and will write when I have additional news.

It has to be Ben Foster
Has to,..

I like him alot if only Robert Englund hangs it up. If he does get Foster.

As for remakes, I think casting is an issue. It would be a better approach if they could get someone with an inch of talent in these Horror films. Most of the great Horrors have very talented actors like Alien with Sigourney, Mia Farrow in Rosemary's Baby, Halloween had Jamie Lee Curtis, etc. I would like to see a talented actor as one of the 20 something year old actors in the movie. I want no "campy/corny" moments. I would very much appreciate leaving out cliche jocks, cheerleaders and nerds and stick with interesting characters that aren't stricken to absolutely mindless dialogue. With a more serious tone, like I would think they are attempting, all of this is possible. This could be a great remake.

A few things this film NEEDS to do:

1. Cast Robert Englund.

2. Do not borrow kills from other films.

3. Focus on what makes a nightmare a nightmare. That is, what happens in this scary environment rather than just finding Freddy in it. Remember, horror is what Freddy's after before he's able to cut up the kids. So the nightmares have to be both scary and mostly... not make sense, the way your own nightmares don't make sense.

4. Have the cast be middle school kids (Superbad) and stay away from high schoolers.

5. Show the molester side of Freddy.

6. Just make Freddy sick and demented... with less dialogue.

7. Make the third act feel like the characters don't know whether they're awake or asleep.

see i'll watch it but jason or leather face don't speak so the actor can be changed without much hassle, both have from the get go

but englund is what makes freddy freddy

I don't know how much times i gotta mention this.

ROBERT ENGLUND WILL NOT BE FREDDY! I REPEAT ROBERT ENGLUND WILL NOT BE FREDDY!

If they wanted to get him as Freddy they'd just make another sequel.

The point of the remake is something new. Including a new Freddy. And we don't know how good anyone else can be cause we've never seen it.

If you're not gonna see the movie based that he's not in it, then so be it.

It depends on how good or bad the new Freddy is. We will know after his performance on film whether or not Englund can be surpassed or not. He might not be Freddy in the next installment, but he will be in the film.

Yes, Robert will be in it someway, but not as freddy, i can assure you that.

Almost amazing as your innacuracy when it comes to assumption.
I was referring to critically not commercially.

LOL.

You should already know by now that Horror films then Action films then Comedies are never given much respect from critics.

Even if all the fans of the original were to love this remake, that doesn't mean that most critics(who never seem to like horror films unless they're part of a horror film site)will give it good reviews.

I know no matter how much a film is liked by fans critics like Ebert or whoever else will bash it, yet there still see the same kind of bloodshed in a Quentin Tarentinto film and applaud it.

If they were to cast Robert Englund as Freddy would it still be considered a remake?

I'm looking forward to this. Mostly because now, when I watch the original NOES, I can't find Freddy to be scary. A big part is because he became such a caricature of himself. I don't have that problem with Jason or Michael because no matter how much the sequels sucked, they remained silent and scary. Freddy did not. He became funny and that ruined him on every level. Hopefully this movie can redeem him.

On that note does anyone else think James Marsters would make an exceptional Freddy?

Sure, it could be, as long as they establish it as a remake. But I think Englund is the wrong way to go as he defeats the purpose of a remake.

I said it befpre, it seem more like a sequel to people. He was good back then, but now it a chance for something new and exciting and different. no offence i like him, just think its time for another person to try it.

Thats what i said before. if they wanted him back as freddy it just be a another sequel.

Yeah. I personally think Marsters would be a great choice to fill the role. He can do black comedy without coming off as non-threatening as a result. He can do scary and evil. Plus he is not a big name (which is the last thing Freddy should be played by).

I liked him on Angel and Buffy, so i think it could maybe work.

This film scares me. I really don't want this remade. The Nightmare series(and Krueger)are so much more complex than your typical slasher film/monster.

I really don't have much of a problem with horror remakes (because most of the time they blow), but come on. Robert Englund made that character. This film won't see a dime from me. Although the Friday the 13th remake will, as Jason has no personality so I don't care who plays him to be honest. Plus I don't care much for the original Friday the 13th so...

I agree,

Ben Foster would be a terrific choice.
He is a great actor.

If you watch 3:10 to Yuma, he is a right nasty piece of work against Christian Bale!

I think Foster would be the best choice, he is young, so no problem for multiple movies, and he is a quality actor.

Sign up Foster now! and make Freddy a young brutal killer!

And give Robert Englund a cameo somewhere out of respect.

Probably Robert himself would agree that he is probably too old now for this franchise, and maybe let someone younger have a go.

That is if they really are intent on going for a proper reboot.

If its just a new sequel, then by all means keep Robert and give him a proper final movie, and then reboot in a few years time.

I agree, Robert made that role, and you just can't think of anyone else in the role.

That is why if they are rebooting, then they have to get a real quality actor, and thats why I say Ben Foster.

A top actor, and would do justice to the character, and perhaps give us a new alternative spin on Freddy.

There are few actors who can pull off creepy roles effectively, and in my opinion, Foster is up there alongside Englund as an all round creepy guy!

dear lord he is over 40. how???????? did he do it with the dragonball???????
