Official Man of Steel Trailer(s) Thread - Part 6

Well, SW is probably a not very good example to compare the situation with MoS. SW was an original idea, while STM is an adaptation of something that already existed long before it, in many shapes. Of course there will be some similarities with STM since they both borrow from the same comics, but honestly, MoS and STM, so far at least, just look like they can't be any more different.

Just because there was a line or two that are supposedly lifted from STM means nothing in the context of the vast difference between them. It doesn't make what they said any less true. These 'similarities' are something only fans will notice and hold on to, but they don't change the fact that MoS has nothing to do with the previous movies.

I'm referring more to the aspects of the Jor-El and Lara dialogue in the trailer that mirror the ones from Donner's films...not the actual idea of a boy coming to earth, etc. the key word seemed to be 'original' in describing the reboot, whereas this was anything but, and more like a 'remake'. And it wasn't just 'one or two lines', but it seemed visual/composition cues and setups with even Zod as well, certainly not 'meaning nothing'. It was disappointing at first.

BUT....as we've been discussing in other topics, there might be more to that than it seems which could add a very different spin to things. ;)

I still don't think that's enough to call it a remake, I think it would actually be unfair to do so. Even, wrong. "Smallville" has a better chance of being called a remake of the old films, but MoS..? And the key word might still be 'original', even if you put references to the old films in terms of visual/composition cues, which I don't actually see by the way, but just for the sake of this conversation. But overall, the differences so far way, waaay outweigh the similarities. You don't need every.single.little.detail to be original to still have an original idea about something.

Couldn't be more pleased with the trailer, visually I think this film is going to be very good, visuals however was never something I was that concerned with because of Snyder's history with films like 300, Watchmen etc.. regardless of the plot/storytelling of those films, visually they were very good.

I hope the plot & storytelling is as good as the visuals.

I don't call it a straight remake...but if these lines and motifs are used the same way, it's at least good to know ahead of time and treat it like a remake so as not to be as perturbed by them in something that you're expecting to be more original. I could still enjoy something as a remake if I knew it was one. As far as outweighing, the hope is that they will in the actual film...in the trailer they don't outweigh everything, but they do weigh them down quite a bit at first.

But by now, ultimately I look at it two ways...it'll just be there like it was i STM, and I'll just try to still enjoy the movie (and I'm actually glad I know about it going in)...or, and I'm hoping for it more, theres context in the rest of the movie that will put them in a different light than what still feels STM-like in the trailer. But never did I honestly feel that this was going to be a straight remake of STM.

The trailer was impressive. The photography was a bit too dark in general. Clark's line: “Can't I just keep pretending I'm your son?" and Jonathan's reply was a very emotional moment. Somebody call the Navi. . . their missing turok is flying around Krypton??!!!??. . . . From the bits shown, Henry Cavill's performance is pretty good. Shannon's Zod was badass. The actions scenes looked amazing.

The music. . . . . I miss Williams' iconic theme so much. They could've kept it as Bond's theme was kept for it's franchise reboot. Zimmer's music was underwhelming.

The suit still looks like crap.

Overall, this trailer was good enough to make me want to watch the film.

Bond is an exception to the rule. His franchise spans 20 plus films and his theme is very versatile. It can be done is a fast paced, adrenaline charged scene or a in an touching, intimate scene. John Williams' Superman theme is not as versatile. It's a hopeful theme that can only be played in certain scenes. What Zimmer has created is a theme that he can mold to feel intimate OR adrenaline filled. John Williams' Superman theme, as brilliant as it is, just doesn't fit what they're doing with this film.

Besides...Batman, Star Trek, even Spider-Man didn't use their previous musical themes and their reboots turned out just fine.

Soooooo.... confession spot light! How many times have you guys watched the trailer???

I'm probably around 20. lol :woot:

About 10 times I think. I'm trying to keep it at once per day so that I can keep it up until June 14th. But I watched a lot of reactions and reviews to it so I've seen the footage a lot by now.

I'm trying to slow down too. Haha I was also going to avoid any clips or other video from now on and just watch this trailer.

I wish I could not watch anything else from here on out too! But I am not strong enough to resist. I will watch everything WB throws at me. :oldrazz:

LOL I'm going to do my best. I will, however, go back afterwards and watch them in between theater viewings. :woot:

kind of funny 4 trailers(CC,Teaser,Trailer,New Trailer) and not 1 clear shot of faora and not 1 bit of dialogue

I'm going to stuck sitting around the house all day studying for the Bar during May and June - my ability to resist is going to be severely weakened as a result. :oldrazz:

Funny thing is I watch the Zod TV spot and then I switch to the trailer so then I think I'll just watch the Zod spot again and then it's like well now I have to watch the trailer lol

Doesn't she most of the time? It's not really new.

Yeah, now that you mention it, she did it in the Donner movie. Still a nice tradition.
