Yup, I was actually happy with a White Coucil that meant we'd get a "clean" Saruman, but nope, had to go for the dick version.

But I must say I enjoyed Elrond quite a bit. 12 years later, and PJ finally justified why he cast Weaving for the part.

As awesome as it was seeing Christopher Lee back as Saruman, I gotta say he presence was completely wasted, as was Cate Blanchette and to a lesser extent Hugo Weaving.

I can forgive them for Cate Blanchette. She was absolutely gorgeous. Heavenly may be a better word. One of the few times when a woman on screen actually made my jaw drop.

we should see more of the white council during the battle of dol guldur.

I don't think Christopher Lee will be doing much swashbuckling.

I'm not sure Saruman really came across as a 'dick', he was just imperious and dogmatic. Think of him as one of the politicians of Middle Earth- they tend to be like that.

Eh, if you take out Saruman's stubbornness, you really have no conflict in that scene. Just a bunch of concerned people talking about the return of evil with dialogue just going back and forth about it.

Saruman was a "dick" in the book too. He thinks he's higher than everyone else. Which is what got him into trouble in the first place.

Yea, Saruman is done in by his own arrogance.

His death in the extended edition of ROTK is a great example of that too.

He lets his power lead him to megalomania and "my way or the highway" and viewing others as inferiors.

I think I found Peter Jackson's cameo. He played the dwarf that discovered the Arkenstone at the beginning. Least I think it is him under that makeup.

From what I've heard that's not him... instead he's a dwarf that runs past the camera when the dwarves are fleeing Erebor right before Thorin spots Thranduil

...in Erebor, dressed up as a dwarf, high-tailing it away from Smaug as the wicked wyrm blasted his particular brand of firey halitosis all upside The Lonely Mountain.

Why must the conflict be Saruman's stubbornness? Would it be nothing but a boring scene if both the wizards agree on the raising threat, and form a plan to save Middle-Earth? Are Saruman's "closed senses" (if that's the case) the only way to write this scene?

The film will arrive on Blu-ray 2D/3D on March 19th! Here's the 2D Combo-Pack cover:

PTX8hN62

Not a big fan of that cover, to be honest... the film had better promo artwork that could be used.

Though I'll be holding out for the EE anyways...

I like it, too. It's a more dramatic way of doing the usual floating head montage.

Why is Bilbo in front, he certainly isn't the main character of the movie

Sure he is. He gets the central arc of the film.

Heck, even in the duel with Azog in the end, its Bilbo who triumphs as a hero, moreso than Thorin.

He's the main character thorin also but the one that technically kicked more ass was Gandalf.

Thorin still has developing to do; namely letting more people in.

I'm going to hold out for the extended cut as well.
