Well child labor laws, I'd have to assume some form of it exists in Europe.

They weren't violating child labor laws. The children had tutors, and had all the breaks and accomodations the law required. If anything those productions were the golden example of how child actors should be treated.

I wouldn't really put any of the three in the same situation especially not the latter two.

Stranger things have happened. I was certain First Class would be pushed back by a few months (since Fox announced the release date on May 2010 and set Vaughn as director)... but I was shocked Vaughn handled the compressed schedule well and got a good movie out.

I think The Hobbit: There and Back Again will be finished by its original date, even counting in the reshoots. It gives WB time to really amp up their marketing and get things settled. Perhaps even convince Jackson to do a final pass in the editing room to tighten up the narrative?

would anyone be upset if jackson edited FOTR by removing the scene of bilbo finding the ring and replacing it with the hobbits?

Don't you mean replacing Ian Holm with Martin Freeman? If so I wouldn't at all be upset, in fact I'd be delighted if they did that!

I think just like with FOTR , the studio has pretty much made back it's investment with the first movie alone.
Despite the fact that the series didn't need 3 movies , it's a business and it's about increasing profits.
Studios need sure fire blockbusters in order compensate for potentially risky projects.
With the Potter movies ending and The Dark Knight Rises looming , WB was focusing on a pretty big movie that would bring in the cash.
Off topic but i'm hoping that MoS proves to be just as succesful as Batman franchise. COuped with the success of the hobbit trilogy ,hopefully we'll get to see some more risky movies like Paific Ri, Godzilla and the dark justice league movie developed by GDT

I don't mind the wait. If this gives them time to make the effects the best they possibly can and time to market the hell out of the movie, I'm all for it.
We've got the trailer for DoS in a few weeks, then we have crazy marketing in a few months, then we have Desolation of Smaug around winter, then its another wait for the trailer, marketing and movie.

agreed. I had always wondered how they'd make that work, but simply editing Freeman into FotR seems the best way to go.

Jackson isnt George Lucas so I think we can forget actor replacement. Its not a big deal anyways. The differences are negligible at best.

In a way, having inconsistencies in the prologue of LOTR underlines the fact that it is distorted memory. Maybe it didn't happen that way. I rather like that.

Yeah, this is kind of the way I take it. The prologue of LOTR is being narrated by Galadriel, it's her telling of the events as she knows them... which could lead some credence to that Bilbo didn't initially tell the truth of how he came by it. Then, with Hobbit, he's telling the real story of how it happened.

Does that make sense? (It's been a weird Sunday)

Its obviously a condensed version of the story. Galadriel is telling a summarized version, not recounting detail by detail.

I'm totally unconcerned about the differences between the prologue and the Hobbit film.

I'm referring to the people bashing Lucas for tinkering with the OT. If you're not one of those people, then my apologies.

Here are some shots from the hobbit. I have sharpened them and did some work on the colors.

I'd love to see something like this in The Battle of Five Armies!
I'm going to cry during the final movie... I just know it *sigh*

I have officially preordered my theatrical release, I did go ahead and go with the offer from the WBShop.com - I really wanted that poster. And yeah, I'm also going to get the extended edition too later this year, exact same thing I did with LOTR (I still have the theatrical DVD's of LOTR on my shelf right next to the EE's).

....and I may or may not have also spent more than originally intended and ordered some additional collectibles as well :sus I'm weak... what can I say.

Looking at those pictures, am I the only one who thinks that the CGI work on Azog is pretty great?

Absolutely not. I thought the CGI in The Hobbit was amazing, and I'm pretty critical.
