I know. "This Smaug stuff is too exciting. What else to people like... hospital TV shows with love triangles! Let's have Kili be injured and Tauriel plays doctor and then orcs attack! Why didn't Tolkien think of that? Brilliant!"

IT is the perfect example of why all the "extra" material is a bad idea. He has to "fit it in" but can only do so in the most inappropriate places.

Somebody in my theatre (no, it wasn't me) yelled "you've GOT to be kidding me" and everyone laughed.

Jackson might as well have filmed himself bending over to squeeze out a long wet fart, followed by a quick butthole wink at the end. Would've disgusted and pissed everyone off all the same.

It took Bilbo like 20mins to get into the mountain because of all the cuts Jackson made to crap I really don't care about. He literally walked in, cut away, walk a little more, cut away, finally inside.

I just feel cheated because the Smaug moment was what I've been waiting for out of ALL of this.

What rubbed me about Legolas hopping from Hobbit head to Hobbit head (sounds so wrong) the wrong way was not the juvenile stupidity of the act itself, but the fact that the barrell escape of the Dwarves were supposed to be a victory against the oppression of the woodland elves. Only to lose their dignity and diminish that victory by one of their own using their pates as platforms to jump.

Dude...dude.

The funny thing about the cuts is you can tell they are artificial. IT isn't like the film just ahead or anything. You could literally recut it and it would match perfectly.

Once again, I find myself wishing for a "Special Truncated Edition" DVD, with all the crap taken out.

IT wouldn't be perfect, but it would probably be a whole lot better.

Was any of Shore's score memorable? Only a few notes in the Smaug sequence stuck with me and the callback to the Shire theme in regards to Bilbo is always lovely. Oh yeah, the love theme was decent too. But that's it.

I liked the moonlight score when the light shined down onto the keyhole. I remember it from the first movie when they deciphered that map.

I don't know if I'm checking out the next one in theaters. I'll wait to see what you guys think first. I didn't do that this time because I didn't want to have anyone's criticisms bouncing around in my head while watching the movie...I know better now.

I didn't mind the movie too much, though it was overly, drastically, way, way too long.
I enjoyed the whole Legolas/Dwarfs sequences with the barrels, thought it was done very well. Also, enjoyed the fight scene with Legolas in the water town.
I didn't mind the whole supposed love vibe from the elf chick and the dwarf, wasn't that annoying as some found it.

*Though, maybe it was me in some spots in the Barrel sequences some of the quick underwater splashes looked like real footage or just real bad CGI; in which in both cases looked odd imo.

Anyway, DoS was a great film. I've seen it twice now and I think I'll give it 2 more cinematic viewings.

I didn't mind the ending, but splitting the movie in two and ending it at Bard's entrance would have worked far better.

I believe that was the original ending it would be with that first shot of Bard with his longbow

I really enjoyed it. Probably would give it about an 8-8.5/10. There were some things I think could've been trimmed a little but nothing I felt severely affected my enjoyment. I didn't mind Tauriel that much (the infatuation/romance subplot with Kili was a little *eh*). Loved the action, loved Smaug (and his voice), loved the Dwarves, loved Legolas (as always), loved Bard, loved Thranduil (makes me wonder what Legolas' childhood was like... his dad's kind of intense). I liked that [BLACKOUT]Bolg actually took some of the wind out of Legolas/made him bleed even, goes to show just what a badass that orc is and sets up what's to come in the final movie[/BLACKOUT]. As with AUJ, I loved the 3D HFR (glad we decided to see it that right off the bat). Would gladly see it in the theater again t:

I enjoy the movie alot, really fun and pretty awesome spectacle...lacked the heart I expect from a middle earth movie though.

I thought Journey was definitely better, which I didn't expect it to be.
