I just wish Hard covers didn't cost so much.
I remember that 12 book set they put out when LotR was first announced and had to turn it down because of price.

It's sad to think this last Hobbit film could be the last great fantasy epic we get.

I'm hoping one day my dream of seeing Brandon Sanderson's epic The Stormlight Archive can get the Lord of the Rings treatment. Would be an amazing set of films.

I would imagine the budget for any such films would be through the roof though, given the material.

One can dream though.:csad:

I would kill to see movies of the Dark Materials trilogy that weren't dreadful.

Solomon Kane desperately needs a sequel.

The future of Conan hangs in the balance.

To be honest, many of the literary fantasy epics seem to be following the same trend, Wheel of Time is a series that is probably too long for film, The Dark Tower project is still facing difficulties, but there are now rumors of a Game of Thrones movie, hopefuly a new story set in that universe.

If you're willing to go outside simply literature, there is potential in other types of media, Berserk for example would be amazing to see done on the big screen, would love to see people's reaction when the eclipse part came in.

theres guys on theonering.net giving out spoilers. glanced at a few. disappointing stuff. Apparently Dain
is a comedic character who is not crowned king

I strongly dislike Boyens. The success of the LotR trilogy went to her head more than anybody. Justifying these asinine changes as being "in the spirit of Tolkien" when they are anything but.

She's truly insufferable in the Hobbit appendices.

Cant wait to hear Philipa say repeatedly how "Its in the spirit of Tolkien." Thats her go to defense for everyone of their changes.

That's funny... because Christopher Tolkien says

"Tolkien has become a monster, devoured by his own popularity and absorbed into the absurdity of our time. The chasm between the beauty and seriousness of the work, and what it has become, has overwhelmed me. The commercialization has reduced the aesthetic and philosophical impact of the creation to nothing. There is only one solution for me: to turn my head away."

I think Philippa doesn't understand a damn thing about the "spirit of Tolkien."

Beorn info sounds rather disappointing. As does the truncated end. I mean, really. Would a 30 second montage of what happened to the Dwarves kill them?

Right there with you Boom. Only Fran still seems to have some perspective.

Those rumors are fake.

There are a number of wild rumours that have begun swirling about the Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies.

These all seem to emanate from an anonymous poster on the internet messageboard 4Chan who claims to have seen an almost final cut of the film. Considering that around 150 folks saw a rough cut with Peter Jackson in New Zealand just a week and a bit ago, some have assumed that it must be a fan contest winner.

We reached out to the film production to test the strength of these claims. Wingnut tells us they are all completely untrue. So that’s it folks, we can all calm down again.

Thank god!

They don't give a **** about Bilbo until the very end. And the dwarves, who are really the focus of these movies, then become an afterthought.

It's astounding.

That we would even believe such "fake" spoilers is a testament to how much of a joke this interpretation of Tolkien's mythos has become. If you had told me those spoilers before the first Hobbit film came out, I'd have thought you were crazy.

Runtime is officially 144 minutes.

Over the last few days, we’ve noticed theatres around the world are starting to put up running time estimates for The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies. IMAX Raleigh, for example, lists 144 minutes, and Swedish website SF.se has the same figure, as does Event Cinemas in Australia.

Production sources have reaffirmed to us that the running time is somewhere between 140 to 150 minutes. So 144 minutes could well be it, folks.

It's disturbing. I'm not one to jump blindly at every rumor, but I saw this posted on TheOneRing and instinctively believed it. Happy beyond all joy that that seems to have been premature, but that unsettles me.

Jackson, you ****ed Beorn up and you ****ed Smaug up. Don't **** Dain up too. /opinion
