Alan Moore is a bit crazy, but when it comes to his films, I don't think he is wrong. He hasn't had one good adaptation.
The harry potter films also got me into the books. Havent read any James Bond books yet.
It's debatable, but From Hell and Watchmen I thought were fairly respectable, considering.
I liked V for Vendetta, Watchmen, and From Hell. League of Extraordinary Gentelmen was pure **** imo.
Superkal
Christopher Tolkien who heads the estate is like 90 years old and not a fan of the idea of his grandfathers work being put to film. Its not that he was displeased with the adaption (which he was) its more about the fact that in his mind no one can do it right. The man is of a different generation and failed to see that by Jackson making popular films he has drawn in even more fans of tolkien's work. Christopher also misses what JRR Tolkien set out to do. Which was, by his own admission, to give England a true mythology they could call their own. Tolkien always considered Arthur to be of french origin. As you know, im sure, mythology is handed down and changed and transformed by future generations. Jackson has done just that. He has taken JRR Tolkien's mythology and given it to a new generation in a new light. If Christopher cant see that due to his own bullheadedness not much can be done.

Idk. Does Christopher have children?
Before Jackson's film i knew literally nothing about LOTR. I had never even heard of it. At 11, I was a star wars junkie. It is because of Jackson I became interested in Tolkien and his works. While i see and recognize the faults in Jackson's films, I will never damn them. Without them I most likely would still to this day be ignorant of Tolkien amazing mythology.
sounds like a family feud, to me![]()
Hmm I read the books around 6-7 years before the films came out. I love both, I did not feel the "tone" was ruined at all. There were certain things that irked me but I understand the transfer to film and modern cinema does some things. I still love both very much, and I do think they are among the better adaptions out there.
But I can't believe that The Hobbit is just around the corner.

Anyone hear about Ian Mckellen's breakdown on set yesterday? While filming on a green screen set, he started crying and shouted "this is not why I became an actor." I guess acting alone on a green screen set with your costars acting together on another set has been a huge issue.

Ah. My friend just told me about it...said it happened yesterday.
Lol Family Feud: Tolkien Throwdown!
Well the problem is that people now equate New Zealand with Middle Earth rather than England.
Either way, I think all of this activity will put some more life into the book franchise. I for one can't wait to pick up the books and read them for myself
I heard about this about a month ago. It happened during production. It was during the bag end scenes. They had a scale set built for the dwarves and bilbo. McKellen was off to the side in a green screen box acting by himself to be composited in later. McKellen got frustrated and lost his **** and Peter decided to do it differently from then on.
I understand why he got upset. Christopher Lee had similar frustrations on the Star Wars Prequel films. An actor of their caliber doesnt want to be shoved into a green box alone and told to act.
that was my planIf you havent read them before, brace yourself. Tolkien is wordy and old fashioned. It can be daunting for those who go in unaware. The Silmarillion will make you its *****. I suggest the audiobook of that one. Its a rewarding mythos if you can get into the books.
