I'm actually surprised that we haven't seen any official photo of Azog yet. It was a nice surprise to see what he looks like without getting spoiled.

That is because there probably wasn't any reason for that to exist until they added him late in the game.

Imagine if they did kept Lurtz for the other films (at least up until the Battle of Helms Deep). I would've loved it.

Why would I do that? It was perfect the way it was. Attempting to shoehorn him into Helm's Deep would of been ridiculous. What, we are suppose to have a 1v1 show down in the middle of that hell? Nah, Aragorn avenging his kinsman in the fashion he did was and still is classic.

Marvelous film. I don't fathom the negative reaction from the critics. Sure, the 48fps issue is legitimate, but I fail to see how the format plagued the characters and story.

9/10

It's nice to see Guillermo del Toro not only get a co-writing credit, but also a 'visual consultant' as noted in the end credits.

On a different note, FilmNerdJamie actually had the gall to say "If you still whine about Lucas and the prequels, but give Jackson a free pass on The Hobbit, please shut up."

Wow... no where is "The Hobbit" being as reviled as "The Phantom Menace". And even though Jackson's bad tendencies have worsened over the years (like slow-mo and bloated running length), he can still conjure up cinematic magic.

He's just desperate for attention. Pay no mind.

Don't get me wrong, I loved that last scene of Lurtz but it's just a fan dream of mine to see him in Helms Deep leading the charge.

Also I realized that the actor who plays Azog was briefly shown in one of the production videos.

If Peter Jackson turns the 2nd film into AotC, I'll probably burn my LotR and Hobbit material out of the Infinite Sadness.

haha someone compared jackson to lucas. absurd. lucas made 2 decent films out of like, 8. and those 2 good films he doesn't even deserve all the credit for. he's no where near jackson's level.

The Mountain that Rides!!!!!!!!

By the way, he didn't play Azog. He plays Bolg. They switched who plays Azog because they expanded his role.

And that sounds like Jackson now. Too much fan dreaming.

I just got back from The Hobbit. I saw it in IMAX 3D , no 48 frames per second. I thought it was amazing. I have full confidence the other two will be just as good and I don't mind stretching it out a bit.

So my guess is that Evangeline Lilly will be in the 2nd one since they are on their way to Mirkwood?

Yes the fanfiction will be in the next one. The one with the forced love story that the first movie showed we didn't need any of.

Not too keen on Tauriel...dunno. I have nothing against Lilly..but seriously though, is it necessary for there to be some sort of romance between her and one of the younger dwarves?

I read somewhere (don't remember where exactly, but it was an official source) that Tauriel was already in a relationship with another Elf, which would sort of negate the need for a romantic relationship between her and one of the dwarves.

manu bennett - crixus from the spartacus series plays azog now.

When the eagles dropped them off atop that cliff my father leaned over and asked "If the mountain is right there why cant the eagles just take them their and avoid all that BS ahead?" He was kind of joking, but it raises the conundrum for non book readers and once again Jackson doesnt address it. Would have been simple to hang a lantern on it by having Bilbo ask why the eagles couldn just take them to the Lonely Mountain. Gandalf could have said they are not beasts of burden or some such thing. As it stands it looks like the eagles just dropped them off there so we could have another two films. I know in the books the eagles dont do it, but in these films its harder to justify the eagles dropping them off so close to the Lonely Mountain in sight of the bloody thing and not explain why they didnt just fly them that final small stretch.

Ah I see, Conan Stevens is playing Bolg and Manu Bennett is Azog. Cool.

Has someone find this picture in HQ yet?

Yeah I was saying the same thing a few pages back. I've joked about it with everyone that's seen the movie. No one can make sense of it.

Saw the film twice...Once in 3D and once in 2D...

I love the LOTR trilogy and was looking forward to The Hobbit...I have to say, this film was very good but had its pitfalls...Alot of inconsistency with the pace. I was so engaged with the LOTR films, but this one had quite few scenes that dragged off the story and I just think the way they set up the ending was poorly done. Alot of great scenes and acting was top notch.

Did not like how abruptly [blackout] the Thorin vs Azog fight ended...That music was so epic when he came down from the tree and was ready to charge Azog...but he got owned[/blackout]

I'd give it 8/10
This is no FOTR

I sometimes love Jamie for his bluntness and snark, but he could use more tact. He didn't hate The Hobbit or love it... that's fine. But I'm not giving Jackson a pass because I liked TH either.

The Hobbit does have some problems (which I understand put critics off), but I really enjoyed it. It'll be looked at more fondly in the years to come, provided the other two installments deliver too.

Man, what a boring overly long snooze fest. This had none of the charm of the original films and this is a story that didn't need to see the screen and it REALLY REALLY doesn't need to be a trilogy. Maybe because I only know this world from the films but this film felt like it was 5 hours long.

5/10

It just made me want to watch the original 3 movies again. I did not care about the dwarven characters at all. Oh well, I'm sure many other people loved it. Good for them, didn't pull me in. I'll catch the next two on DVD.

I think I liked it more than you did , but yeah I agree for the most part. I thought Thorin was kinda a jerk actually , and not as likeable as Gimili , Aragon or even Boromeir in the FOTR. I guess his character is suppose to be kinda the gruff one ,but he just didn't really make my warm him though I admit he is a badass. I didn't like the songs , and the bird crap wizard was a bit much.

However my audience applauded at the end so , im in the minority. It was nice though to see Blancett, Weaving, Lee, and Gollum again . But man was that original trilogy something special...

Thorin is kinda jerk and it takes his freinship at the end to make him likable. Has no one seen the 1978 Hobbit animated film for Thorin is like that in the book there and here.

Yeah Thorin starts out very cold but he gets a little better by the end. He was my favorite of the movie though the ending with Azog was embarassingly terrible.

I think its meant to remind people that Thorin is a Dwarf and kinda easily humbled by a Goblin is probably bigger. My guess is they may have a return battle some time where Thorin does better.
