I've seen the film three times, and the added subplots still aren't working for me. The Azog one especially gets worse and worse with each viewing.

One then begins to question whether this film needed Azog then (or a villain, for that matter).

I sure hope the CGI is improved,I thought A LOT of it was BAD and like cut-scenes from a video game,The ending with Smaug literally made me cringe and almost facepalm!!!
Smaug looked excellent. The texture for his skin was beyond incredible so I literally have no idea what was "video game" like about it.

Saw it in Real D and the majority of the movie (including the little we saw of Smaug) looked incredible. Azog and the Wargs along with some of the Radagast in his sleigh scenes were the only things that stuck out as poor CGI.

Agreed. I saw some embarassing cgi and compositing, but Smaug was neither. Smaug looked incrdible and the definition of his scales and skin was fantastic.

Well you don't have to have an idea about it since it's my opinion,The treasure was bad and Smaug's look wasn't that bad But the animation of him popping out and then the opening of the eye was just so f'n horrible to ME.

Maybe cause I saw it in 2D,Don't know

First off, try not to take this so personal we arent attacking you and you dont have to defend yourself. We are all friends here.:)

Secondly, I saw it in 2D as well and I thought Smaug looked incredible as I said. BUT Ive only seen the film once and I was pretty giddy during that bit and wasnt paying attention to the animation when smaug opened his eye so I cant attest to its movement and quality. I do think his skin and scales looked great tho. Ill be sure to pay attention next time I watch it.

Jackson is really good at listening to his fans so I feel he will address many issues being discussed. The next films should be in better form.

To be honest what I have seen of Smaug he looks pretty good. The Dragon Eye opening was very well done. Azrog was more shockingly different for an Orc more then Bad CG wise for me. I think they 2 first wargs were good and I wonder why the others didn't look as good.

I think The Goblin Kings problem. I thought it was his cg work but then think it was his Voice didn't match the creature.

Saw it 3 times and I think Azog gets better per viewing.

The Smaug CG model was superb. Excellent detailing and texturing.

I will admit the gold looked a little weird as it slid off of his face. But I have no complaints about the big guy himself.

Azog looked like he was cross bred with a cat. Am I the only one that thought that? He had very very pointy ears, his glowing eyes, his almost perfect roided body, his dexterity, it reminded me of a strong jungle cat.

Maybe I didn't look close enough or something,My problem with it was mostly just the animation,It didn't ruin anything for me though and I still f'n love the film.

I've only seen it once and next time I see it it'll be when the EE Blu-Ray is released on day 1!

I wonder if Jackson will go back and touch up some the cgi for the EE cut?

I liked Azrog overall,Not just the CGI But the character,I thought his"Yup,That'll do"line was stupid yet funny!!!

My favorite part with him was the"Well it could have been worse"moment..I LOL

My problem with Azog was it was like he was glued to that Warg after he fed the one Orc to the Wargs.

But then again Bilbo taking out an Orc was my favorite part of the movie.

That's not Azog...

You're thinking of the Great Goblin. Azog was the pale cat/goblin crossbreed looking guy with scars all over his body. You know the one who killed Thorin's grandfather.

Ah my bad,His CGI was kinda bad But I really liked the design

A question isn't he suppose to be the Great Goblin not the Goblin King. I was hoping for more with the Goblin King. I just didn't like that character. Its the only thing I had problems with in the movie was that whole character.

Once again I don't share that opinion in the slightest. I saw every single bit of detail when it came to the Great Goblins skin and his movements were spectacular.

Azog on the other hand was inconsistent and both his detailing and movements would sway from pretty good to mediocre.

That's who I was talking about,I thought Great Goblin's CGI was great while Azrog was pretty bad in CGI

I must have been the only one that enjoyed Azog's design. Granted, the CGI was marginal but I thought Jackson pulled it off.

Didn't really have a problem with his design all that much although he was a bit more on the plain side. It was the level of inconsistency when it came to the VFX work on him really as I've already pointed out.

The character and the actors performance I enjoyed a great deal.

Azog.

This might sound a bit critical, but this hasn't been the first time Jackson has struggled with CGI consistency. The original LoTR trilogy shared its moments of 'WTF' when coming to the special effects and visuals. Hell, I'd go as far as other films like King Kong too.
