No one has answered this question that saw the film. Did It seem like Gandalf and Galadriel had some type of past. I am guessing when Gandalf was in his other form.
There seem to be some kind of more then friend meeting.
Its was neat that he seemed to be able to communicate with her mentally and Elrond and Saruman couldn't hear them
I felt that too HS. tho I don't remember anything on it if there really was.

I really have no problem with this. These may be the only live action Tolkien films we ever have the blessed fortune of seeing. It only makes sense that he does them in a way thats completely immersive, with depth and compassion.

I felt the same about his King Kong. It was not just a movie. It was a cinematic experience.

He was able to do this with the rings films while still making needed cuts for the good of story telling.

It almost seems sometimes like modern Jackson would keep the Tom Bombadil side plot now if he could do it all over again.

So what is everyone's favorite scene?,So many to choose from But I have top two..

Rock Giants fighting and Riddles between Bilbo&Gollum!!

The Smaug prologue, the entire sequence at Bag End before Bilbo decides to go on an adventure, Riddles in the Dark and the Azog ambush/Eagle resue/Thorin hugging Bilbo ending.

It did seem that way at least momentarily (coincidentally, it seemed that way in the trailer as well).

The telepathy is Galadriel's thing. Not specific to Gandalf. Remember she spoke that way to Frodo (and the others) in Fellowship. She seems to have some sort of shared consciousness with living beings around her. At least, that's how I interpret it.

Gandalf and Galadriel are friends. Very good friends who have a kind respectable relationship with each other. I don't think they have had a 'romantic' one. They just seem to be in a way just friends for they look up to each other through wisdom, knowledge with respect and kindness.

btw, I just got home from my third viewing.

Seemed more like a 2 way conversation really only we couldn't really hear what he was saying to The Lady Of Light.

I think Saruman focused likely on power and may have been that but I think Gandalf had abilities Saruman never had and i am guessing telepathy was that.

I would say he would include those scenes. Thank god he didnt back then. To all the fans Im sorry, but I hate Tom Bombadil and consider his chapter to be the least satisfactory thing Tolkien ever published. Own its own as a short story I may have been more forgiving of the goofy odd whimsical irrelevant character but in the narrative of LOTR I consider it an awful aside to an ongoing narrative.

I think its possible. Gandalf is tens of thousands of years old. And iirc at one point he didnt appear as an old man. In The Hobbit, no there was never any romance between the two. But its not too much of a stretch to believe the two had a romantic relationship.

Gandalf greatly respects the elves. And Arwen is proof that not only can elves feel romantic feelings, but they can feel them for the non-elvish. :) So let the viewer decide.

Right. But she may have been having similar conversations with the rest of the fellowship.

Her ring of power, Nenya. Is probably what gives her this power. I read she was fought back Sauron mentally to keep him from peering into her mind when he bore the One Ring. Leads me to believe Sauron could read all thought with the One Ring and Galadriel was the only one who could block him out.

Its not like I am not open to Gandalf and Galadriel having a romantic past...I mean it could have happened. So you say he didn't first appear as an old man? Hmm.

And your right about Galadriel fighting back against Sauron.

It depends on how long Galadriel has been married to Celeborn and how long she has known Gandalf I guess.

Orcs were once elves. Uruk-hai were a crossbreed of Orcs and Men or Orcs and Goblins can't remember which. And Goblins are just goblins.
Ah, well. I was close. There's too much to remember when it comes to the mythology.

Um wasn't Celeborn her brother.

She was Arwens grand mother so my guess her man had Dark hair. There is mentionings of these things in the Simarillion but that book is so long I cannot recall.

I'm pretty sure that when he became a member of the Order of Istari, along with Saruman, Radagast and the others, they all took the form of elders.

Prior to that I'm thinking he was a normal dude.

Movie wise Gandalf says in FOTR Saruman was breeding Orcs with Goblin Men.
That line tells me there are two races and Gandalf in The Hobbit tells Bilbo that his blade would glow blue when Orcs and Goblins are near.

My guess is Orcs are of Elves and Goblins Men or Dwarfs or both.

I just thought the Uruks were a kind of breed of Orcs but I don't know. I'm confused now.

Wikipedia sometimes is not totally accurate but I also did say Gandalf and her had a past and Gandalf is called other names and is a Spirit and really she is a Spirit somewhat too I imagine. My point was a long time ago for she comments him being older.
I didn't only get my information from Wikipedia. That was for your benefit.

To the best that I can tell, Goblins and Orcs were both created by dark forces. And rather than Sting glowing blue "when orcs are near" it glows blue when that specific dark magic is near.

Uruk-Hai are Saruman's specific brand of Orc. "Perfected" as he says to withstand the light of day, etc.

Tolkien kinda made that part hard movie wise I think Jackson during rings just said Orcs and Goblin Men to kinda say yes there are two races and them together Uriks were made.
