I don't know if it's such a bad idea to make them more like the 616 Avengers. I don't consider New Avengers like the Avengers. It was over 20 issues of going nowhere before I quit.

There's some new Ultimates pages out...I haven't seen them in the topic yet, so I figured I'd throw them up.

MAD is a man among boys, but his Wasp is interesting...she looks a lot less Asian. Granted, anyone can change their hair color, even Asian women, but she looks pretty much like she does in 616.

Seriously, MAD's art is astounding. Although, Thor should be able to wipe the floor w/ Venom w/ ease. I hope that first shot is only b/c Thor was caught off-guard

joe mad's venom looks like crap, wtf?! i rather have someone else on this books, i don't care if it comes out late. dell-otto would be nice.

I don't know all the artists, but I completely agree that this Venom looks like crap.

Ultimate Venom is a chance for Marvel to restore Venom's dignity, and people like Joe Mad are just going to f*** it up.

Wow, a superhero-ish team fighting Venom, where have I seen this around these days...hmmmmmm.

I'm sorry, what? Venom's dignity? We're talking about the same Venom who used to run around craving people's brains right? The same Venom who's one part symbiote and one part common thug at worst, meathead at best, right? I mean, I realize that Venom eventually became somewhat of an anti-hero, but I've never considered him to be dignified or anything.

I get thet you're a Venom fanboy, but c'mon, dude. Restoring dignity?

Not seeing much of a difference here.

Venom in his first 2 appearances was perfect. His origin could have been fleshed out better, but oh well. After that, different writers f***ed him up royally...leading him to be an anti-hero, which IMO was the worst thing to ever happen to him. I don't care how many people praise it, Venom is not supposed to have a sense of morals...no matter how twisted.

Ultimate Venom was the perfect chance to remedy the problems of 616. You could eliminate the cannibalism and the anti-hero aspects. And you finally got a chance to flesh out his origin.

Brian Michael Bendis came up with a great concept. Mark Bagley drew Venom to perfection - not so big that he looks like the Hulk, but clearly big enough to be a threat. Volume 6 of Ultimate Spider-Man was great. Then the game came along, and that was okay. It's not canon anyway, so it doesn't matter. But now Joe Mad comes along, takes a huge dump on everything Bendis/Bagley worked to create, and now yet another version of Venom falls to poor writing/artwork.

And yes, the game is canon. That's the explaination for Venom's spider on his chest. The OFFICIAL explaination.

No...Ultimate Venom has no spider, and his size never reaches these levels:

And the game is not canon.

How could the writers have ****ed him up when there wasn't anything there to begin with? Two appearances does not a character make. What they did was flesh out the character and mold him into something that we recognize today. Now, what he was and is might not appeal to you, but you're way off base to say that the writer's ****ed him up because there's no way to know what Venom was supposed to be at that point in the first place. There was no precedence. Does that make sense to you?

"Released September 23, 2005, the Ultimate Spider-Man video game focuses on the return of Venom three months after his fight with Spider-Man. The striking thing about this game is that it is canonical: The video game contains elements which affect the future Ultimate Spider-Man comics, such as the R.H.I.N.O. being a man in a giant robot suit (as depicted in the Ultimate Spider-Man Annual) and Spider-Man calling the Shocker by his first name, Herman.

Despite these facts, several inaccuracies exist between the game and the comics. Silver Sable learns that Peter Parker is Spider-Man in the game, but when she later appears in the comics, she does not know who Spider-Man is."

There was a timeline posted somewhere that actually explained things like Silver Sable's appearance in the comic taking place before the game and such but I honestly can't find it for the life of me right now. I'll keep looking.

I understand what you're getting at, but the Venom we see today is way too far off from the Venom we saw then.

Venom was originally just a hate-driven, evil Spider-Man. He lived to terrorize Peter Parker in every way. And while, yes, he was reluctant to harm innocents, it didn't stop him.

(In the church, he knowingly kills a guard...albeit feeling sorry about doing it.)

Somewhere along the lines, they made Venom's motivations so screwy that I couldn't even make sense of them. Because his innocence was supposedly "taken" by Spider-Man, he now lives to protect the innocent? That's so stupid. Hate is your motivation, Eddie - not compassion.

And of course, over time Venom just got bigger and bigger, and the tongue and drool got more and more exaggerated, and he started talking about eating people.

Hmph...I could've sworn that I've read multiple times that it isn't canonical. The two main problems with it being canonical are Silver Sable and Carnage.

Were it not for those two things, I wouldn't mind because it was a good story. But Silver Sable and Carnage interfered with forthcoming USM arcs featuring the same characters.
