Days of Future Past "Only have one more new character" in sequel says Vaughn

Here's a challenge for you guys: how would you introduce Apocalypse/ Sinister?

Well my theory was to always use him for X4

Sinister is a geneticist, (hell wouldn't be opposed of a hellfire expansion with him being The White King (or black since they never reffered to Shaw as being the black king...) who's working on the experimentation on mutants and has been tracking several (like jean and scott) for years. It turns out that Sinister has had ties with Weapon X, Hellfire Club, and Magneto over the years... He was also responsible for "saving" cyclops during his "death" in X3. Sinister has been working on an ancient puzzle in mutant history with the remains of the first mutant... an egyptian mummy En Sabah Nur. He's been working with the DNA to create his own army of "perfect mutants" code named "project apocalypse". He essentially has captured 4 mutants, and turns them into his "horsemen" It'd be interesting to have these four be mutants we've seen within the X films though... so ideally i'd probably pick (Mystique, Wolverine, Banshee, Havok, Gambit, Toad, Polaris (though never in a film), Rogue, Angel) would all make interesting Horsemen on the screen...

Here's a challenge for you guys: how would you introduce Apocalypse/ Sinister?

I wouldn't bother with Sinister. Kevin Bacon's Shaw had elements of Sinister and the mutant experimentation thing has been done with both Shaw and Stryker.

The only way i can think of is to make him a government scientist assigned to look at the mutant issue, and who ends up giving himself many of their powers.

Apocalypse is difficult too. The name is hokey and reminds me too much of the nuclear apocalypse Shaw was trying to create. I'd suggest just calling him Ensabah Nur and never calling him Apocalypse.

The basic thing to consider is what they could bring that's new.

You need an interesting story idea first, not just to put in a character for fan service.

Off the top of my head, things we haven't seen so far

1) Public persecution of mutants, mutants being beaten up on the streets. This could be tied in to the Civil Rights movement.

2) We don't need to play the persecuted thing too much, so we also need to see a mutant utopia, a world/place where the unusual is accepted. This could tie in to the Flower Power hippy culture and also the music scene (where better for the weird people to feel comfortable - hello Lady Gaga - than in the pop music world!)

I actually think people better prepare for a lesser known mutant in the sequel. We're all expecting people like Cable and Polaris and really we should probably expect someone like Synch or Freakshow.

I mean, who would have thought we would see Riptide or Azazel in a film (and that it would work so well)

sounds like sentinels to hunt down mutants by way of the government to capture , experiment and possibly lock up would fit your criteria

There's no way X4 will be made, at least not after XFC. Sir Ian will be in New Zealand for the next 2 years filming the Hobbits.

Good thing you dont need Magneto in it to make it work.

If they want a Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch substituite because they can't use them they could go with Northstar and Aurora

I heard a rumor that Cable will be in the next film, and that Stephen Lang (Avatar) was approached.

Sentinels could work... but with Transformers on the big screen, the various robots in Terminator and the identically-named Sentinels featured in Matrix, there is a danger the mainstream audience and critics would perceive them as derivative and as a deliberate attempt to cash in on Transformers in particular.

Two of the writers said they would like to see Cable on the big screen, but then backtracked and added they had no idea of what was being discussed for the sequel...

Ahhh, I don't think so. There are several differences in the function and the look of the Sentinels to where the similarities to Transformers would be too few to make such a connection.

Synch does seem like a possible contender after all there was a rumour that he was supposed to be played by Tony Rich. He can definitely take on Magneto

there's many x-men out there dying to be in the movie, why not add some more than one?

because matthew vaughn said he's only adding 1 character in the sequel

He did say that he would be adding "one more new character" but he also said, in another interview (with Hitfix): "I've got some fun ideas about what other mutants to bring in."

He might be just teasing and talking loosely, or he might mean one more MAIN character....

Thats why i like Vaughn, he gets the idea of character over plot. Instead of pulling out a sequel filled with 10 new major mutants, he gives us probably one new villain that we can connect with, and maybe some minor characters.

Thinking that Singer is going to be behind production/writing again...i wouldn't be surprised if the sequel follows the same footsteps of X2.

Meaning that in the sequel, Xavier's X-Men and Magneto's Brotherhood come together to battle the greater evil in the film (ala what happened in X2 against Stryker.)

Bah, Magneto needs to lead the Brotherhood against the X-Men in the sequel. Maybe evn have them win, so that their fighting history isn't one sided. Magneto Strikes Back.

it seems to early for them to join forces, just yet... give us some time with the x-men Vs the brotherhood, first

If there is really only one major new character, I get the feeling it would have to be a villain, rather than a hero.

But if Magneto is the villain, I think the X-Men are badly in need of some estrogen given their abandonment by Mystique and Angel. And the character I think would be great to introduce was already in FC, actually - Storm. They never said her age in X1, so it wouldn't matter much.

Vaughn could also be playing with his words. One more new character could simply mean one more character that isn't in this franchise's history. That means that we could see Cyclops in the next movie and he wouldn't be new since we have seen him before.

What about the Morlocks as the next villain group besides the Brotherhood? We could see Caliban, Marrow, Callisto...

Or hell...have the Russians be the bad guys again and we could see....OMEGA RED!

As long as Callisto isn't Quicksilver leading a band of over-tattooed thugs...

If they went with Morlocks they could go the Mutant Massacre storyline and we possibly see Gambit.

I love the idea of having a sequel and not really adding any more characters into the mix.

I think you would need one or two newcomers though.

The X-Men is totally male now that Mystique has left - Havok, Banshee and Beast are the only physically active members (because Xavier is in chair).

As for new females, Emma won't join the X-Men (yet, at least) because then we'd have two telepaths. In fact, we're more likely now to see astral plane showdown between Emma and Charles.

So we need one new female member at least. They'd need to be interestingly different. Polaris would be a duplication of Magneto's powers, so she seems unlikely. Could we see a young Jean or Storm? Or someone else? Dazzler? Storm seems unlikely if the Brotherhood still has Riptide.

Thoughts?

Dazzler would be cool to see. Especially if they decide to have the film take place in the late 60's early 70's. Show her stint performing in the club scene.

I also don't agree with those that said it would be too early for The Brotherhood to join up with the X-men to take out a bigger threat. From where First Class left off, Magneto and Charles aren't major enemies yet. Magneto went off on his own, but in that last scene on the beach, he's not bitter at Charles, he was still trying to get Charles to see his side of things and was even cradling him as a friend. I think it would be the perfect time, and at the end of the possible sequel have something happen that really breaks their friendship.
